Alice 19th

Post by Passions55 » Sun Jul 29, 2007 12:32 am

has any body read/heard of this manga? Its by Yu Watase and is seven volumes long. I personally I really loved the story. Its the first manga by You Watase that I have ever read and I have to say that I've never enjoyed a manga more than with this book (and I read a lot of manga, and there is always something that annoys me in most manga).

I loved the fluid drawings and how the angles of the panels meshed together to convey movement. Seriously The angling is very good, much better than in most manga that I have ever read. It made it seem like I was watching a moving anime at times. The over-all story was very good and I liked that for once the main heroin wasn't one of those overly confident and sassy heroins that fear nothing. Alice actually had flaws and fears and I just thought her character was very moving and touching. She felt real, like a real person who had trouble in social situations. I rather liked her, and the story line was pretty good. I found my self very engrossed and charging to my local Barnes&Noble store to buy the next volume just to see what happens. I really liked all the characters.

For those who have read this series how did you like it? Did you like Alice? how about her older sister mayura?

Discuss :)

I love Yuu Watase's works. This is my second fave out of all of them. Alice is just so damn adorable.

Honestly, to me, Alice looks like an elder version of Sakura from CCS.

And I love how yummy-looking the men are. Yuu-sama draws men perfectly....*drool*

I like Yu Watase, so I read Alice 19th. I admist the art was really well done, but I hate hate HATE Alice. Dunno why. She just ANNOYS me to no end. Mayura too. If every girl who had her boyfriend stolen by someone close to her went evil, the world would be dead by now.

I really loved Alice. I thought she was a realistic character since not every one can be out spoken and fearless like Mayura her was. Its natural particularly in High School to be a little socially awkward and not know how to managing your social relationships with your peers. I found her issues with that oishi girl (God I hope I got her name right) and other girls in her school to be very realistic. Sure there where times where I wanted Alice to stand up for her self and tell her sister and other people to STFU, but I think she actually grew into a stronger person through the series. And really I just found Alice's mannerisms really cute over all. The only thing that annoyed me was the fact that with the whole love triangle between Alice and Kyo and Frey, Yuu Watase made these two boys catering to her a bit...annoying. Was it necessary to have Alice put into helpless situations just so Kyo and Frey could angst over her? I thought the two of them falling asleep on Alice's bed was a bit much. This was my first Yuu Watase manga, does she do this sort of thing often?

and Actually I really liked the character of Frey. I notice that in a lot of shojo manga the laid back easy going guy never gets the lucky and the serious lion hearted guy always gets the girl. Mayura...I really wanted to slap her at times. I liked her because she was protective of Alice and tried to encourage her sister to come out of her shell. But she had this way about her that seemed like she expected people to look up to her or differ to her just because she she is who she is. It bugged me a bit.

I love Alice 19th. Oh man, i must have read that manga five times or better now. After reading Yuu Watase's other work, I just couldn't resist looking into it. *happy sigh* right now i'm working through Absolute Boyfriend.

Frey was the best! I'd go for him. He's much more fun to be around. I'm just sad he didn't get anyone. Is it just me or did Mei Lin look like an older Meilin from CardCaptor Sakura? She was even from Hong Kong just like Meilin. Very suspicious..... j/k :D

What struck me the most was the theme about how powerful words are. Love and Hate are very strong and how you use them can really impact someone. It made me think alot about what I say and how it can affect others around me. A very thought provoking story!

I thought it was a very thought provoking story as well, I loved the whole "words have power" theme as well, because I really do think that words have more power than even actions at time. Some one says something hurtful and it can stay with you for a lot longer and fester inside you than a physical wound can. That's why I found the situation with Mayura to be so profound and intense. Even though I didn't like her at times the real reason she was acting the way that she was was because of the unkind things Alice said. What Alice said was so small and seemingly harmless because I'm sure that it's something any one would say when they are upset to some one, but it can be very hurtful if you think about the meaning behind it :(

This manga needs to be made into an anime, it's a shame that it hasn't already
Is it just me or did Mei Lin look like an older Meilin from Card Captor Sakura? She was even from Hong Kong just like Meilin. Very suspicious..... j/k
I thought so too, but then Alice herself looked like an older version of Sakura, except Alice has blue eyes instead of green like Sakura. Am I the only one disappointed that the story didn't get more into Meilin's back ground as well as that American Lotus Master? I felt like those two where sort of just thrown in there just to make up the numbers. :?
Frey was the best! I'd go for him. He's much more fun to be around. I'm just sad he didn't get anyone
I absolutely adored Frey I thought he was a big sweet heart; and funny! I loved the way he was portrayed, he was written with many layers and wasn't just the amiable goof ball. He had his serious side and a complex past and complicated relationships with people he has been close too  , and I do feel a bit sorry that he didn't end up with Alice. But I like the that Alice ended up with Kyo, because I did like Kyo. I just don't think Frey was the right guy for Alice, Kyo is perfect. I kinda wished that he had ended up with Mayura for some reason, instead of leaving him alone. Jeez, Yuu Watase seems to like leaving the good natured guy out in the cold. I'm currently reading Ayashi no Ceres and seems like the character Yuhi, who is good natured and likable, isn't going to get the girl eighther. Does Yuu Watase do this alot in her stories?
