Manga/Anime to avoid

Post by Nehelenia's Crazy Fangirl » Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:18 am

Okay, after searching manually through this forum, I don't think there are any topics like this one. The title is pretty self-explanatory. Just list any anime/manga that you think should be avoided.
Here are mine so far:

1. The Demon Ororon. Blah blah blah demon. Blah blah blah archangel. Blah blah blah -insert random swearword/blood and gore.- This manga starts out all right with a fairly interesting concept, demon and angel falling in love perhaps? But quickly turns into an emo/gore fest. It truly gets quite repetitive when all four volumes are like this.

All I can think of right now with my sleepy brain.z_z

One anime to avoid is Knights of Ramune. It's a six part OVA, but it doesn't really have a concrete plot. Everything's all over the place. I think the creators of this one, were more concerned about how many nekkid boobies they could stick in every 30 minute installment. So it's basically just bouncy boobies, plus lots of sexual manhandling, with no real plot. It has giant robots, but it's not something to watch if you're expecting real action.

Oh yeah, and the dub voices are awful.

One anime to avoid is Vampire Princess Miyu. It starts off with a fairly interesting concept but then it turns into another generic monster of the week series with no real plot or specific goal for the characters other than to kill evil monsters. Miyu is quite possibly one of the most boring anime heroines ever. She exhibits no emotions whatsoever. I get it that she's a vampire but that doesn't mean she has to be emotionless. And I don't mean emotionless as in cold or cruel. I would've even preferred to her to have those emotions if it would at least make her somewhat interesting. Miyu literally has no emotions at all. She's just there and seems to exist more as a deus ex machina to kill the monsters than as an actual character and it's difficult to enjoy a series when you can't even care about the main character.

Magic Knights Rayearth.

I know, I know...a LOT of people like it. But it seriously disappointed me so much. It was like someone decided they wanted to cram EVERY genre possible into one show, and it just didn't work. Shoujo + Giant Robots = no.

And the characters just weren't likeable, IMO. While I know some of the more basic traits of Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu were different, when it all boiled down to it, they were carbon copies. EVERY single one of them had the whole "omg I don't know if I want to be a magic knight, I'm gonna go emo for a bit, oh shit something's attacking my two friends TIME FOR MY POWERS TO SUDDENLY COME TO ME RAAAAAAAAAWR *KICKS ASS*" Lather, rinse, repeat.

I stopped watching after about two DVDs. that's all it took.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Ai Yori Aoshi. its starts off like a romantic comedy, with this girl named Aoi going to live with a guy named Kaoru that she used to be engaged to and then her family broke it off but she loves him anyway. so it was cute at first, but then it just turns into a boob-and-butt fest, with all of Kaoru's slutty female friends coming to visit and throwing themselves at him and Aoi gets upset and blah blah blah. basically, its a boob show.

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch.

I really wanted to like it... I really did! It was a cutesy little magical girl show... and really, nothing else. The attacks are stupid, the enemies are boring, and it doesn't really make much sense. I only read book one of the manga, though, so the manga might be better, but the anime... feeeh.

Piano- Quite possibly the dullest anime I have every seen. Nothing seriously happends in it.

Amazing Nurse Nanako- They should have called the show, "Let's see how many panty shots we can cram into one minute!"

Love Hina.

You know the whole "Boy likes girl/boy accidentally sees girl naked/girl beats the crap out of him"-love story formula? It's that. Times 7 (for the 7 female characters the male character ends up LIVING WITH). Times another hundred or so for when the main female character beats up on the male for NO REASON AT ALL.

The formula was annoying when it happens once every few episodes. It's beyond beating a dead horse when it happens 10 times in 30 minutes -_-

Just wanted to make clear that Takato is talking about the TV series and not the OVA which is vastly different. Don't want people passing up the excellant OVA because they got confused.

Hmmm.... Why does that sound like Ranma ½? Without all of the freakish morphing?

Seriously though, does Ranma ½ even have a plot? Other than.... something I might not be awre of? How did it last for as long as it did? Am I missing something?? o.O

God, yes. I fucking hate Love Hina, both anime and manga. Die die die.

See, I hate Love Hina, but I love Ranma 1/2 (the manga, not the anime). I honestly cannot like the main character of Love Hina...Naru is a flat-out useless bitch, and if I can't like a main character even a little bit, I really can't like the show. But with Ranma, I adore Ranma as a character. And I just think Rumiko's art is adorable, humerous, and I find the manga hilarious. There are a few ongoing plotlines, but nothing major. It's really just small stories with plots of their own.

I like some of the stuff you all listed as bad but thats ok this is an opinion thread.

Id suggest staying away from Maid Team. I mentioned this before but I think it fits this topic. One its just a rip off of Love Hina, and two it takes a serious mental condition (MPD) and turns it into something cute which I find offensive as an aspiring special edcuation teacher.

edit: Its also a ripp off of Ai Yori Yoshi

Side note- About Hanayuko Maid Team: He's talking about the original series, not ~La Verite~.

And I wouldn't call anything a rip-off of Love Hina since LH itself is an over-glorifed dating sim minus the sex and nudity. LH is hardly original.

The X Movie. The TV series and the manga are both good (if the manga drags on a bit much), but the movie?

If you want to be a ball of emo, maybe it's ok. It's pretty a little? But it's like, "Hi. Here are people. ROCKS FALL. THEY DIE."
