Pokemon: Jumped the Shark?

Post by SailorMoonFan » Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:17 am

Does anyone think that Pokemon has Jump The Shark? I think Pokemon has like 400+ episodes and I think now at this stage it's time for Pokemon to end. I use to be into Pokemon years and years ago and used to like it. I still watch it occasionally when it airs on Cartoon Network & The Boomerang Channel. The first few seasons was great but then we have The Pokemon Chronicles and the Johto League, etc. And when Brock & Misty were gone for a time that's when the show began to go downhill. Some anime shows knows when to stop but Pokemon just keeps going and going. And Team Rocket is still trying to steal that Pikachu--it's time for a new assignment.

I think so too. I liked the first and the second season very much. At that time, I was playing the games and collecting huge amounts of Pokemon cards...PKM fever at it's best.

But now: Why this many seasons? If it were at least good and still had Brock and Misty, the only two characters who actually were funny (aside from Team Rocket) in it, and it weren't that many Pokemon (I liked the first 150), then I would probably still be watching it.

I'm more partial to the original 150 Pokemon. Well 151 if you count Togepi . . . well 152 actually because of Mew also.

Did anyone have a problem with Cassidy & Butch as being in Team Rocket also? I didn't and I think it kept the formula a little fresh since we always see Jessie & James all of the time.

It depends. It seems to like going back and forth. Kanto/Orange were great, Johto... early Johto was mostly filler and rather boring, late Johto was just plain awesome.
End Pocket Monsters.
Begin Pocket Monsters: Advanced Generation.
Houen sucked. So. So. SO. BADLY.
The animation was crap.
The art was ugly.
Personalities were screwed up and simplified.
Kanto (Battle Frontier) was okay, definitely better then Houen, but that's hardly an achievement.
It went through some bizzare half-shounen/half-shoujo-ness with Haruka's Quest and Satoshi's Quest. ... Harley makes everything better. :D And is the one thing that I loved about Houen. Kanto's bringing back Shigeru (Gary,) Harley, Jindai... so I'm pretty happy with it, even if a certain character's personality is being very inconsistent because of a certain pair of people who work on the show who aren't even on the same page on it...
<<; But anyway. The movies are still awesome. The specials are great.

I always love to laugh at Kasumi fans who are all 'we're ELITE KASUMI fans because we stopped watching after she left and Haruka is #^@&*!$&^(%T#!!'
Because... because the two-parter where Kasumi first returns to AG was the best we've seen her in AGES. She wasn't boring-ish Jouto Kasumi... she was fiery Kanto Kasumi! In a new outfit! I liked that. And
Togepi FINALLY EVOLVED.
And she returns for yet ANOTHER episode (the one where she passes the legacy of dragging Takeshi by the ear onto Masato. Of course. :P) and a good deal of the hoso specials are dedicated to her, her lovelife and the lovelives of her Pokemon.
....
No, seriously.
And also, Battle Frontier's coming to an end, everyone's thinking Satoshi's gonna be canned for Hikari (also known as 'DP girl.') the SatoKasu and SatoHaru fangirls are bashing her left and right, others are pairing Satoshi with her and a lone Satoshi fangirl wails and acts as if her world has crashed down around her.

And I just knew the moment someone would make a Pokemon topic in the anime forum, everyone would complain- but I didn't expect it's topic to be this way from the start. xD Not that I'm complaining. Watching people complain can be... fun...

-ahem- In short, Pocket Monsters rocks, Advanced Generation is not worthy to kiss its butt.

I can't remember all those Poke'mon...

it feels a little to long. It's been going for more than ten years now. I mean... it's fun to watch but I don't really see the point anymore. the only thing I remember liking alot was Team Rockey and Kasumi. And now Kasumi is gone and some new girl is there (I like her clothes better though...)

How old is Satoshi by now anyway? isn't he like... 30 something at this point? (if we were going by real time...)

... Less then ten years, you mean. ^^; The anime's been going on for nine years.

Rocket Gang's their original name. xD -nitpicker-
How would he be thirty if he was ten or eleven at the start? xD Nope, everyone ages at a snail's pace on this show and others are pretty much eternally youthful or something (Hanako-mama-san, anyone?)

The point is to sell games, the same as it always was. And people ARE fans of Haruka, Shuu, Harley... the new characters. So they cater to the fans as that'll give them better ratings and sell more. There are still fans of the older ones too. It's entertaining and at the end of the day, isn't that all that matters with TV shows?

And when Kasumi's journey-thing ended with her staying at the Gym, people complain. And yet, people complain that Satoshi's journey is still going...
And now that people are thinking it might end, they're complaining because it COULD be ending (his journey, not the show.)

And it looks like it's not going to end for quite awhile, with D and P on the way few years.

Who knows, it could last another 5 years.

Remember, Pokemon is still a pretty big franchise for Nintendo, it's third most profitable, so I don't think it'll go any time soon xD

That's... kind of why people are thinking Satoshi's story's ending. Because with the end of Jouto, the original series ended and AG took its place, so people are assuming AG's ending as well. -nods-
Because apparently, 'DP girl' Hikari's gonna be in an anime or something.

I'm not gonna lie, I love Pokemon. Well, Kanto and Orange League Pokemon...

Everything else, not so much. I haven't been keeping up with it lately (aside from some Japanese clips via Musashi-chan). Johto was a huge downfall in my opinion. And so far, Advance in'st anything good.

First off, I really can't stand Haruka or Masato. Well, Haruka is OK but the producers are whoring her way too much. I wouldn't be surprised if she got her own spin-off anytime soon. Haruka can be fun, and she does more than Kasumi ever did. But, it's becoming overkill. Masato is a little insect. He just proves that little brother sidekicks are never, EVER cool. I don't know what the writers were thinking when they created him.

Second, Satoshi (Ash) has become way too immature. He still makes idiotic decisions, and has become a real brat. Episode, after episode he solves everyday problems BY SHOCKING THE HELL OUT OF TEAM ROCKET.

Which brings me to another point, what has happened to Rocket-dan??? Musashi, Kojiro, and Nyasu are still being treated like shit. Sakaki (Giovanni) has left the face of the earth, sans the Nyasu fantasies. Yamato and Kosabaru have become clones of Musashi and Kojiro. Ugh. I want to see some sort of big storyline with Team Rocket. I want Musashi-tachi to actually DO SOMETHING. I WANT MORE CROSSDRESSING.

AND WHEN IS THERE GONNA BE ANOTHER SWIMSUIT EPISODE??

>_>

I kinda think they should bring back the Pokerap xD, Ahh.. good times o_o.

Anyways, I kinda stopped watching Pokemon regulary after a few episodes, it was just kinda boring, I mean, after all the stuff they'd been through, it was like going back to basics for me.

Also, I don't really like Max, I find him rather annoying

Anyways, Roll on the new DP anime xD;

( Also, has anyone seen the DP starters? o_o I want the penguin xD)

Yay, Umino! Yay, 'Sashi's mentioned. xD;

Oh, Satoshi's matured... but he's still the same at heart. ... When I say the same at heart, of course I mean brain.
'Haruka! You should battle a Pokemon to weaken it before capturing! ^.~'
=NEXT WEEK=
'Wah! I can't believe that Pokemon got out of the monsterball! ... Maybe I should have battled it? Naaah, couldn't be.'

'PIKACHU, 1000 VOLT!'
'S-Satoshi! Water--'
=ZZZZZAP=

Basically. :P

Hey! I remember the Poke-rap! Ah... good times...

But umm... yah... I really like the games. I remember being 8-9 years old and other kids would pay me to raise their poke'mon (for like an hour... level it up a notch...). If only I had the running shoes back then...

I think the problem is that there was never any clear story arc from the beginning so it just kept going with very little development.

At first it was about Satoshi/Ash getting the gym badges and becoming "Pokemon Master." He made friends, he made enemies, and it was a great adventure...in the beginning. After awhile it just got stupid, the Rocket Gang/Team Rocket was always doing the same thing, there were tons of characters I hoped would return but never saw again. Basicly it was just the same thing episode after episode. I watched through the end of Kanto, and I went in and out though Orange, I only saw a few of Johto and I haven't relay watched too much since.

Oh, I have seen "Pokemon Chronicles" its basically a collection of episodes they skipped when they dubbed the first time around, because Ash wasn't in them. I actually like these episodes so far, they really flesh out some of the characters, and at least Misty gets more of a story instead of just peddling away, and it seems she's going to come back.

Chronicles had some really bad dubs, though... but I'm pretty sure most of the Kasumi ones got by okay-ish, so... yeah. ^^;
They were pretty good. The hoso specials had some very nice animation too.

Well, they have brought in new villains... Magma Gang and Aqua Gang in Houen and random Rockets throughout Jouto. Especially Bashou and Buson... they rocked. xD;

Chronicles is CRAP. It's like Teletubbies but with Pokemon. I was under the impression, though, that Pokemon Chronicles was an original series from Japan, and it's basically just a bunch of "fun stories, including flashback stories. Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm not really into the whole Pokemon anime thing, but I'm looking forward to a new series.

Wow, seriously? xD;;; Where did you get that? And yes, it was an original series in Japan, but the first three episodes of Chronicles is a whole special in Japan that had new characters, if you're interested.

Telletubies? xD It was very mature, actually... er, in the original anyway. ^^;

-random- Marina makes a cameo in the ninth movie and Bashou, Buson, and Shiranui-hakase have caught a /Rayquazza./ They don't tell us much about that, though. Still... pretty cool that they reused the characters from Pokemon Crystal after all these years. xD

It's just that originally it was a bit of a variety show with loads of live-action segments and was hosted by Kasumi and Takeshi since they left at the end of the first series. When it was dubbed, only the few episodes with all new animated specials were dubbed. Hosting and live action segments removed. After hoso ended, Pokemon Sunday took its place and the whole thing were those crazy live-action... stuff.
And Kaba-chan.

I just personally prefer the first season myself... You know, when the concept of PokeMon wasn't overused, and was original. Now, the PokeMon show just seems like it's being used as a cashcow. It's one thing for a set of cards and video games to be milked to death. But when a show about the video game starts being milked to death, then the entire concept of everything to DO with PokeMon get's old, annoying, and BO~RING!

Plus, there's just toooo many PokeMon now. For me, 151 PokeMon were hard enough to keep track of. We don't need 700+ PokeMon running about, do we?? That just makes the title of Ultimate PokeMon Master seem impossible to achieve now. I bet you any amount of money that Ash is gonna be 45 by the time he's done with his quest. And even then, he probably won't have ALL of the PokeMon, because there would have been an extra 1000+ added to the list, by then. At LEAST.

That's just my unorganized opinion. ^^;

The first is the best and the one that actually makes sense. Serousily, new pokemon are discovered when Satoshi starts a new Quest! Right...

Has anyone noticed that Satoshi has only like 40 pokemon and they're usally the weak ones?
