Anime You Would Like Licensed

Post by Kameko » Wed Jun 14, 2006 9:00 pm

. . .but probably never will be. Shows who's license has expired don't count. There shall be no mention of Sailor Moon. No mention of shows that don't have uncut, subtitled DVDs.

Angel's Egg: This is a movie that was released in 1985. I can't tell you what it is about because I don't know. Mamoru Oshii, who directed it, doesn't even know what it is about. It's set in a post-apocalyptic looking world that might not not even be post-apocalyptic. The movie follows around a girl who lovingly protects an egg and a soldier who looks to be carrying a cross-shaped gun. Yoshitaka Amano does the artwork and the artwork is beautiful despite it setting. The movie is 75 minutes long with a total of 5 minutes of dialogue, no linear story, and has next to no action. This movie is the definition of surreal and is definetly not for everyone. I encourage everyone to watch it through at least once.

The Rose of Versailles: It's a pity that thier isn't enough of an interest in this show over here as it is a great show. The fact that it is 70s animation doesn't help it as today's market has no interest in old animation. No, it isn't flashy like today's shows are but it is still good looking, has some great music and a wonderful well-written story with some great character's. I was so happy when
Oscar and Andre FINALLY got together.
That's all my brain will do at the moment and if I think of more I'll post again.
Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you''ve got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Only Yesterday: I want to see this movie so badly. It's a Studio Ghibli film but I heard that Disney has no plans to translate and more of their films, but I could be wrong. I heard this is about a girl in her late twenties who is struggling through life and she looks back at her child hood. It sounds like a sweet story.

Pani Poni Dash. I've seen it on YouTube and I like it a lot. It's like Azumanga, only crazier! But it's got so many Japanese references in it, it might not go over very well. Of course, I might be wrong, since Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemi got licensed.

Does Tokyo Mew Mew count? I at least wish it would have subtitled DVDs.

Oops, I misread that as "shows that have uncut..." Okay, then no Mew Mew. It doesn't matter much anyway, since I have all the English manga.

I wish they`d license Wedding Peach. It`s like a Sailor Moon rip-off but still seems interesting. They dubbed it in Germany, but not in America.

SD Gundam. Not SD Gundam Force (though I do wish they'd show the second season of THAT), but the old SD Gundam stuff.

I also want Petopeto-san to get licensed.

o__O Cutey Honey has been licensed...I"ve got one of the tapes right in my hand.

"Go Nagai's Cutey Honey, Vol 3, Original Japanese Dialog with English Subtitles", and the tape is by ADV.

Or are you referring to an older version or something?

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Yeah. Only Shin Cutey Honey (which is the one you have) has been bought to the US by ADV. The other series haven't been licensed.

I wish that Pita-Ten would be licensed, I have some of the Manga and it's such a cute story.

I didn't get to see much of it, as I randomly found it on a page that talks about anime that's only in Japan, but Air looks like a really cute series, although rather odd. They brought over Elfen Lied, which I never thought they'd do, so I'm hopeful for Air.

One name.

MMMAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTLLLLLLLOOOOOCCCCCCCCKKKK!!!!!!!

:shock::oops: Uh, I mean.......

SSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIILLLLLLOOOOOOORRRRRRR MMMMMOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case you couldn't read that, it's Matlock & Sailor Moon. Old joke taken from The Simpsons (Season 6's "Sideshow Bob Roberts"). Anyways, I think that Toei should give up its stinginess and let the countries outside of Japan have their freedom of viewing this glorious anime, once again.

An update for some of the above mentioned series:

Angel's Egg - Licence uncertain. According to ANN Anchor Bay has (or had) the licence. Anchor Bay has since become a part of Manga Ent. in 2004.
Only Yesterday - Buena Vista (a.k.a. Disney) has it. Unclear if they plan to release it.
Pani Poni Dash! - Licenced by ADV, release date TBA

My picks:
Nanoha series
Rozen Maiden series
YamiBou
Marimite

Anchor Bay said that they had it and were planning to release it and then they announced that they didn't have it so it is still unlicensed. For Only Yesterday, the R2 release has English subtitles so people might consider getting that.

Skull13: From my first post: Shows who's license has expired don't count. There shall be no mention of Sailor Moon. Considering this is a Sailor Moon forums, it is a given that people here want it to be re-licensed so please do tell what other shows you would like licensed that might not have a good chance to be licensed.

More shows I would like licensed:
Victorian Romance Emma
Rozen Maiden/Rozen Maiden: Traumend
AIR

Although it's probably too early, I hope the NANA anime can become liscensed. I also agree on Pita-Ten.
