The only anime that I've really seen dubbed by 4 kids is Tokyo Mew Mew, and I was pretty upset with it.

For one, the names, what was the point in changing them when most of them were in english to begin with. Ok, so Ichigo and Zakuro weren't but what was wrong with Ichigo=Strawberry, or if strawberry sounded to weird why not just Berry or even Cherry?

Zakuro could have been changed to Plum since most kids probably don't know what a Pomgranet is.

Kishu=Dren and Tart=Tarb uh no. Dren is just nerd spelled backwards and the only reason I know that is because I saw a Happy Days episode where... never mind. And Tarb is brat spelled backwards. We all could have done with out those.

And then that awful Mew Mew rap, what were they thinking?

I could go on and on about this anime but I'll stop here.

I'm going to start watching One Piece subbed. I hope 4kids didn't ruin that one either.

I'm going to start watching One Piece subbed. I hope 4kids didn't ruin that one either.
They ruin everything.

Here is an example I'm going to give: Winx Club. From what I observe on this show, 4Kids just LOVES to use sterotypes. And they just LOVE to change the dialog completely around. Download these two clips:
http://www.winx-club.de/content/videobi ... eview1.jpg
http://www.winx-club.de/content/videobi ... eview2.jpg
Now those are small samples of the orignal Italian version. I will put the translations of the clips in quotes.
Clip 1:
"Ah, that's better."
"So did you like our little joke?"
"TURN AROUND!"
"Surprise!"
"I..I am a FAIRY!"
"Ha! You call THAT magic? I'll show you magic."
"This is magic."
"And this is magic."
"Where's Ronda?" (Not sure.)
"I don't know. Maybe she got lost."
"Hold on, we're not done with you yet."
"And now for the final touch."
"To bad for you to meet us. Sweet little fairy. I'm don't remember the last few lines that well. Sorry.
Clip 2:
"Static Sphere!"
"Sonic Blast!"
"Golden Pollen!"
"What a block head."
"OK, you weaklings asked for it!"
"Everyone get behind me, firewall!"
"Sisters, leave them to me."
"And now prepare for the worst."
"Solaria!"
"Let's get out of here girls!"
"Huh? Where are they? They've disapeared!"
Now I don't have any links to the American version, but just type in on YouTube Winx Club episode 2 Part 2. I can give you some changes right now: Static Sphere was changed to Digital Web. Sonic Blast was changed to Subwoofer Blast. Golden Pollen was changed to Ivy Wrap. Completely pointless changes. In both the clips the music was changed. AND in the first part Icy acts like she knows Bloom. When she freezes Bloom, she asks her where Stella's ring is. -_-;;; Yeah, you're going to get an answer out of a block of ice.

I have two questions. Does Japan even know the 4Kids butchers their anime? Are they even OK with that?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe they knew (or Toei at least) what kind of job was done to Sailor Moon, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were aware of what any other company was doing to any other show.

Japan uses dub clips in their Pokemon De English to teach kids English. xD
And I've seen a Japanese fansite that used some of the digitally painted over Japanese text replaced with the English translation to teach English also.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyBld_p1-Vo

They saw the (rather well-dubbed) first season only, though, if I'm not mistaken (they cried when they saw it. ^^; ) No idea how they would react if they showed them Chronicles or some of the movies. xD;

But I don't know about other dubs.

Far as I know, they don't care. Especially Toei, who really doesn't seem to give a damn about America in the best of times...

Eh, it's not going to waste; kids in Japan can still watch them again (assuming they have DVD releases of their shows, as I've heard reruns are next to impossible), and the original animation company gets a nice chunk of change for selling the license to their shows to the US. After that, it's out of their hands, as they wouldn't be getting any of the revenues from advertisements anyways.

Pokemon Encore. They rerun older episodes, same show or another reruns them at fans' request.

The first two seasons of the original series isn't out on DVD, although they're releasing a DVD with some season two episodes on June 29, was it? When the new movie comes out. The hoso specials are on DVD.

S'yeah, I guess they just don't really care what's going on in America.
Wonderful. xD;

Now as for something amusing from The Whistle Stop (episode 128)...

Musashi wrote:Yeah, but 4Kids has revealed several times that they don't know ANYTHING about the show they're dubbing. Lorelei of the Elite Four was called an Elite by the Rockets, but when she appeared, her name was Prima. And the hilliarious Trainer's Choice segments they have in AG now...
Arbok evolves into Seviper?! O___o;;
Those references are usually dub-only, unless you actually see the characters eating hamburgers or such (which they did once, because they were in/around a huge city.)
Now they edit the Japanese food to look like American food. -sigh-
Also, they used to paint away Japanese text.
The anime started using a made-up language since Jouto.
Sometimes, the text looks a little TOO much like Japanese for their tastes, so they edit it away.
Let me rephrase that, they edit away SCRIBBLES. NOT REAL TEXT. Oh, English text is bad too. Because 'kids don't read.' :P However, the most amusing dialogue change (in a morbid way) was May calling one of her favorite foods 'chicken noodle soup' (to avoid just saying ramen or noodles. -rolls eyes- And that's VERY popular, last I checked!) The funny thing is, May's Pokemon is based on a chicken. Haruka, guard your Pokemon with your LIFE, because your dubbed counterpart wants to eat it. xDD;;;

Anyway, here's one of the stupid onigiri-sandwich edits.
http://dogasu.bulbagarden.net/compariso ... paint.html
Also Roketto-dan's onigiri are crackers.
ramen noodles are kick ass! everyone is america loves them!

I never minded 4Kids until they went after some of the animes I had a soft spot for. First of all, before I talk about them, let me just say that it isn't because I like the show that I watch anime sometimes; if I get attached to a character, that can make all the difference.

Mostly, Pocket Monsters is a tame show that really should have been fairly easy to edit, but of course they can't have any Japanese references in it at all! I've only gotten to see one of the "lost" episodes, which was the one where they go to the Safari Zone which has the trigger happy warden and late ron a scene where Musashi tries to seduce him, which isn't that bad.

I'm sure most of you have head of the infamous episode which was later cut up to become "Beauty and the Beach?" Well, the pictures I've seen were so funny I'd love to see this uncut; what was Kojiro thinking? I heard that whoever wroe the script for that got scolded at in Japan for that, though, which was the end of the "naughtiness" in Pokemon.

Because of Pegasus, I adore the first season of Yugioh; he was the most unique villian I've ever seen, and he was so pretty ^_^. Uncut, Yugioh is actually pretty bad, IMO, and I really do think the dub is garbage. Since Pegasus is meant to be American, he uses some English in the Jap. version, which can be really funny at times, such as "It's a joke!" and in one case, which almost made me choke because I wasn't expecting it, "shit!". There's actually a lot of sexual innuedo along with blood and violence outside of duels, so there were some rather drastic cuts.
STAGE OUT!!!

Oh, no, you heard it wrong. That episode still reruns normally in Japan. xD And we've seen even worse after that episode... and the dub left that in. :P Sure, no nudity, but that episode was still freaky. Especially near the start when a tentacle reached out and grabbed Misty's arm, freaking her out- before the old man introduced them to his Shuckle. xD And we still have weird perverted old men, of course.
(Did I mention that drinking pure Shuckle juice basically just means that thing had a bunch of corks plugging up its shells holes? And then they unplugged it and... poured the juice into their mouths? ... That was such a disturbing episode. xDDD; The purple Shuckle was the one in her lap at the start of the second clip.)

And Kojiro was entering the bikini contest with Musashi so they could increase their chance of winning, getting the money for the resteraunt which they were working for (rivaling the resteraunt that Satoshi-tachi were helping out in.)
Did I mention that the old man running the resteraunt-thing that Satoshi-tachi worked in was perving on Kasumi's chest? xDD;
The pictures you saw were probably from when he inflated the breasts to make them even larger (in front of the judge- Takeshi- and the audience. ... Nobody cared. O.o;) and then started mocking Kasumi with them. xDD;
The dub did let Doctor Doku get away with such things, though, like hitting on the then 12 years old Kasumi, then on Musashi, and THEN asking Joy out on a date all in the same episode. xD;
Yet when they finally dubbed that bikini episode, it became REALLY SHORT because they pretty much eliminated the contest and when the old man was looking at Kasumi's chest, the dub had him say: 'You remind me of my granddaughter!'

.......

Do dubs have something for incest? xDD;

Did you watch the clips?
It doesn't have very much of an effect on Jessie and James themselves besides making them feel warm and fuzzy just after they drank it, then they're normal for the rest of the episode, and absolutely no effect on Meowth when he drank it, but after they drank it...

Then again, these three can get drunk of /water.../ so I wouldn't be surprised. Here Brock explains what happens if you drink the juice of a Purple Shuckle pure.

I was just at the 4Kids' site out of boredom and I noticed this page: http://www.4kids.tv/buffer.php?link=index.php Is this supposed to be a warning that 4Kids is obssesed with commercializing?
