Does any one around here like magical girl anime, besides Sailor Moon? What and why?

Tokyo Mew Mew was not created by Naoko Takeuchi.

I like the Mahou Shoujo genre. My all time favorite anime (and mahou shoujo) is the original Cutie Honey from 1973. The first anime to invent the nude transformation, and the first magical girl warrior. Really awesome series, fun characters, original character designs, and it's totally funky-fresh! The other adaptions are also excellent, but don't hold a candle to the original IMO.

I've also enjoyed Sally The Witch, Majokko Tickle, Tokimeki Tonight (if that counts) and what I've seen of Majokko Megu.

I don't think A!MG, MUC, Yucie, and Maburaho would be considered Mahou Shoujo. Rayearth probably wouldn't be either, depending on how you define the genre.

That's my favorite anime genre! (at least, especially the team ones) Also comedy, too. Let's see:
Magic Knight Rayearth
Wedding Peach
Tokyo Mew Mew
Ojamajo Doremi (I've only seen the dub of this one, but I like what I've seen of it)
Puni Puni Poemi
Fancy Lala
Seven of Seven (I think this counts because of the magical "split into 7 different people" thing and also because they get superpowers with the prisms)
Pretty Cure (I've only read the first manga in Japanese though)
Pretear
Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar (Unsure if this counts, but I think it does)

Don't think so. Only magic wielders are the fairies. All the humans are normal, except for one who can see the aforementioned fairies.

I've tried to watch MKR, and read some Wedding Peach, and seen the dub of Magical Doremi once. None of them hooked me the way Sailor Moon did, and I think the reason is that none of them emphasize the "ditzy leader vs harried subordinate" relationship as much. SM had Usagi vs. Luna and Usagi vs. Rei and even some Usagi vs. Mamoru, and I don't see that as clearly in the other shows.

How are we defining "magical girl" then? Because this anme is quite similar to the old magical girl stories in Japan that were more about a girl who was magic, like a witch from another world, rather than the "transforming human" type of story. In fact, I think the very first magical girl was of that type.

You're correct. Infact, until Cutie Honey and Majokko Megu pretty much every mahou shoujo series was about a witch or magical girl from another world (or under the sea ala Mahou no Mako-chan) or a young girl receiving magical powers.

Akko-chan from Himitsu no Akko-chan (the original mahou shoujo) was a normal girl who was given a magical mirror for her love of mirrors.

And Sally The Witch (the first mahou shoujo anime) is about a Princess from a magical kingdom who escapes to Earth to have fun.

Alot of people hail Sally The Witch has the first mahou shoujo, which is incorrect. The Himitsu no Akko-chan manga predates Sally The Witch, although Sally got an anime adaption before Akko-chan. (which makes Sally the first mahou shoujo anime)

Has any one seen Magical Canan or Magical Kanan? I'm a big fan of both, even though I have not seen them. ^^;
