Actually, Luna's VA for the Sailor Moon S movie was a British old lady voice. It really sucked.

Anywaz, I have more:
Gundam Wing's infamous's "Damn!" to "Darn!", Heero telling Relena that he'll "Destroy her" instead of "Kill her." That was just stupid.
I wish on a star...
Just to be with you...

Call my name for me...
I'll be there for you...

On the American dub, Luna has a British old lady voice ALL the time, not just in the S movie. The fact that she is shown to LOOK young finally (while Luna the cat's age is less obvious) is what makes the accent stand out more as an incongruency.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Honestly, I think the only kid targeted anime dub that survived with decency was Hamtaro. I'm not sure even if they dubbed it accurately, but hey, the show's enjoyable. I actually like it.

I never really got into Yu-Gi-Oh. I lost interest at about the opening theme song(literally. I thought the theme sounded too similar to the theme from Earth: Final Conflict). Plus, for the number of cuts, I find it odd they left in a guy wearing a US flag bandanna as a head rag. that's techncally an offensive use of the US flag in some people's eyes but wasn't cut by the dubbers.

Now, what can I think of here? Ummmm...

Cardcaptors - Virtually, nearly everything was wrong with. :P
Pokemon - Now, I think the Ash x Misty pairing is pretty cute, but must they shove down their audience's throats when they get the chance?
Yu-Gi-Oh! - Not dubbing the first series and taking the second one in because it earned more profit.

Those are the only things I have problems with, strangely. :?

Eh... actually, 4Kids does everything in their power to make it bleedingly obvious that there is something there. Like in the second movie...

MISTY: Ash will never really be alone because he's got...me. *flashes a sad smile*

And "The Heartbreak of Brock"...

ASH: Imagine Brock married...
MISTY: You and I will be married someday, too.
ASH: Mmmm-hmmmm..... WHA--!?
and there is MUCH more problems with Yu-gi-oh! Duel monsters. *shudder* dear god... you have no idea...
I know. I just didn't bother to list them. ^^;

But now that you fired up my brain, Yugi's voice irritates me. He sounds like He-Man. >.>

a little OT I suppose, but hey. I actually like...um...Yugi's voice when he's...not Yugi the school kid. I have no idea what to call him...I don't watch the series, and calling him Yami Yugi is no good since we're in the dub. It's regular Yugi's voice I can't stand. *kicks it* Rrr! And his eyes! STUPID round eyes!! *rants some more* I don't like the idea that they gave him two totally different voices (did they do that in the original? Cuz even then, it would be dumb). I also hate He-man's two voices. Grr....*looks around* Okay...you may all return to your topic...

The Shaman King dub.

4Kids writer: "I have a great idea! Let's change Tao Ren to Tao Len, and give him and his sister fake, terrible British accents! Let's change Manta to Morty! ANd let's change Ryu to Rio, change his wanting a happy place to a paradise, and give him a bad Spanish accent!"

Thankfully, aside from that, the dub isn't actually that awful. Everyone else keeps their Japanese names, and crappy dialogue doesn't come TOO often. Still, I'd rather watch this in Japanese. Hear that, 4Kids?

Yoshmaster, not to be rude or anything, but you keep saying that 4kids removed all hints of a relationship between Ash and Misty (or whatever they're Japanese names are), but everyone else has said that they get quite a few relationship vibes from Ash and Misty. Are you maybe just biased against 4kids? Cause you're the only one I know who cannot sense a relationship going between Ash and Misty.

Technically, that isn't actually a change. "r" and "l" are interchangeable in Japanese, remember? Stuff like that happens in translations a lot.

Ugh, that reminds me of the Utena dub, changing Miki to Mickey.

Original:

"It's Kaoru Miki-kun, or just Miki."

Dub:

"That's Miki Kaoru [horribly mispronounced], or just Mickey."

>.<. The sad part is that his dub actor actually does sound like Mickey Mouse. He doesn't suit the role at all.

I don't understand that, either. That was so incredibly stupid.

about the Ren/Len thing...the terrible part is they call him "Lenny." I could go with Len. Len is fairly cool. Lenny, not so much. Always reminds me of Lenny from the Simpsons. *shakes head* Rio's voice bothers me not because of the accent, but because the person that does his voice is the same person, I SWEAR, that does "Ella's" voice from Sonic X. Booo. Also changed in the Shaman King dub: UNITY instead of Integrate...I'm not sure which one is more right, but the English manga says Integration, and I like that much better than Unity. 100% Integration makes more sense than 100% Unity.

We Americans aren't the only ones who do that with the characters' names. I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I think the Three Lights' CD singles from Japan are titled "Three Rights."

Sometimes, though, like calling the Three Lights the Three "Rights," whether it's an R or L can make a whole world of difference, usually if it's a Japanization of a foreign word. Examples can be found when the NA dubs have tried to translate the English-Japanese named characters (like Nephlite vs. Nephrite) I think a similar thing is stated in the episode comparisons on this very site.

Yeah I hate Lisa Ortiz as Lina. I've heard people say she's better than Megumi H. Well I'm usually not a *huge* fan of Megumi's voice acting (just her singing). But her acting as Lina is the best IMO

I think Lisa is okay as Shiori in the Utena dub though. I don't like her Japanese voice. It doesn't suit her.

She's so horrid as Lina. And I LOVE Megumi Hayashibara (her singing and acting), and my favorite anime character is Lina, so it just adds insult to injury for me.

And I liked Shiroi's japanese voice. I think it's perfect for her.

I didn't know that. I thought it was an American doll because the topic is about stupid dub changes, and most of the changes that have been mentioned were on American dubs.

Most of them, that is. I have one from an Italian dub.

I think it was stupid to make the Three Lights be twins of the Starlights in the Italian dub. What's stupid is that they had it the way it was originally, but then changed it to twins later. I'm sure that was even more confusing to viewers than the Cloverway S and SuperS dubs! Look, if you're going to change something in the dubbing, KEEP it changed throughout the whole dub, don't start out with no change then do it later!
(I'm not yelling at any forum members, I'm yelling at the Italian dubbing company)
