Just wondering if anyone has seen this anime. My guy introduced it to me last week and I've seen the first 5 or so eps and it's really fun.
Our anime club has been showing it, and we're up to about episode 26. It's actually not too bad ... it's not a personal favourite, but I don't mind it at all.
It has some good humour throughout, and it's pretty interesting to follow.
One other thing ... it's turning out to be a pretty long series. Episode 55 is airing in Japan this week, and the fansubs are up to 54 now. It might go for a while longer yet.

I am unimpressed by Naruto (I've seen the first 7 episodes, and on't feel like wanting to watch more), as it seems little more than a retread of Dragonball but with ninjas, even if Naruto and Kakashi are fun characters. I can see how anime newbies would like it, though (much like how anime newbies three years ago were into Love Hina, and Fushigi Yuugi five years before that).

To me, it's become a whatever show - I can watch it and enjoy it, but I can definitely live without it. Among the people I know, however, it's actually quite popular.
Some of the battles seem very DBZ-esque (though not as long, thankfully). Although there are some interesting plot elements that have been developing, it still doesn't really matter to me.
The other big problem is that there doesn't seem to be a central plot (i.e. the show can go on forever, since there are always other bad guys, new skills to learn, new people to meet, etc.)
Lastly, the first OP/ED are tolerable, but not favourites; however, the second OP/ED are absolutely awful, in my opinion. The second OP sounds like a guy yelling a whole lot, and the second ED is just ... creepy.

A friend of mine turned me onto this show and he said it would change my life. o.O He's an anime/gamer freak so I don't blame him for saying that but sheesh. Anime CANNOT change your life.. as far as I know anyway... But it's a cool show. I love how Naruto always gets his ass beat by Sakura when he
trys to delcare his love for her.
lol.. It's sooo funny. Reminds of Love Hina (those scenes anyway).

While Naruto definitely has DBZ leanings (in the manga Naruto even learns a Kamehameha-like energy blast attack) the plot in general seems to be alot better than DBZ. The enemies get interesting, because there is some mystery to them. For example,Some of the battles seem very DBZ-esque (though not as long, thankfully).
Later in the manga, Sasuke's older brother returns. This leaves a whole slew of questions. Why did he kill his family? Why did he spare Sasuke? Why is he after Naruto? Is he working together with Orochimaru (snake guy)?
The story isn't simply an excuse for fighting. They actually deal with some themes of loneliness and belonging. There also seems to be a coherent history of the Konoha village too.

Yep, I just started watching it! I think I'm on episode 12 or something. I really enjoy it, and Naruto is such an adorably awesome character...I also love the ninja guy that trains them..uh..I forget his name ^^;; the one who usually has one expression.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

after that awesome hour special last week, i'm a bit disappointed: this week seems to be a filler episode. from what i've seen, the anime company does NOT do well when left to their own devices (the first tv special comes to mind *shudder*). anyhow, yeah the anime's great, but the manga's just a little better in my opinion. i've never been able to see why people always compare naruto to dbz. i honestly don't think they have much of anything in common: naruto has a plot with character development, dbz don't! naruto actually has villians with a history, a bit of personality that acually makes them feel human, rather than just evil, dbz don't! naruto has a wide range of personalities and emotions, dbz don't!
it's strange, as it goes on, it seems naruto becomes a less present character, you know? just a thought. his name is kakashi, by the way, their sensei, i mean. and i used to feel the same way about sakura, but when she eased up on naruto, and stopped wetting her pants over sasuke so freakin' much, she really grew on me. that might just be me though....Tiff wrote:Yep, I just started watching it! That's not even why I don't like her. I don't like her, becuase so far, she's USELESS. Utterly, utterly useless. She just sits there the entire time, going on about Sasuke and doing NOTHING.yamijounouchi wrote: and i used to feel the same way about sakura, but when she eased up on naruto, and stopped wetting her pants over sasuke so freakin' much, she really grew on me. that might just be me though....

this makes me think: has anyone heard anything about the movie? i just wanted to know if kishimoto will have anything to do with it. i really hope so for the reason mentioned in the quote above. also, what's the release date? i forget.yamijounouchi wrote:after that awesome hour special last week, i'm a bit disappointed: this week seems to be a filler episode. from what i've seen, the anime company does NOT do well when left to their own devices (the first tv special comes to mind *shudder*).

True, she was useless at first. But when you get to the episodes later on in the series, I think it was first the Orachimaru arc, you'll see her become more useful. i found this naruto parody site, www.narutopower.com, and it is one of the funniest sites i have ever seen. well, not so much the site itself, but the fansubs they do. they are absolutley hilarious, although, they don't really seem to like the show that much, but that's fine, it's still funny. i've only seen one episode, but if they are all like that one, then i'll be downloading one a week.

Yeah if you consider
setting some useless traps and biting the enemy being useful. Granted the enemies were pretty strong, but she could have done better than that. Above all, in the end she has to rescued by almost every genin from Konoha.
True, she was useless at first. But when you get to the episodes later on in the series, I think it was first the Orachimaru arc, you'll see her become more useful.
I agree with Tiff about Sakura. I mean I can understand if she is the weakest person in the group.
When one of your teammates is the main character and has a demon inside of him and the other is a prodigy who can learn techniques just by seeing them once, any normal ninja is going to come up a little short.
But for crying out loud she doesn't have any powers at all, and she always needs to be rescued. The only thing she does that is remotely useful in the series is to explain some background info. It's pathetic.
Continuing on, I was wondering what everybody's favorite characters were. My favorite characters are Naruto, Shikimaru and Rock Lee. Naruto's funny and inspiring, I like Shikimaru's strategies, and Rock Lee's just funny. Sasuke's an ass, even if he has probably one of the best powers in the Naruto universe.
