Yotsubato

Post by Sailorasteroid » Sun Jun 19, 2005 9:31 pm

I just found out about this new manga from Azuma Kiyohiko, who did Azumanga Daioh. I got to read it at the anime convention and it was hilarious! It's not four-panel like AzuDai, but it still seems to be slice-of-life. And there are men in this one. Who don't chase after high school girls.

But the best part is Yotsuba herself. She's got Chiyo-chan's cuteness with Osaka's brain. In addition to being a good artist, Azuma's an awesome comedy writer. Ah, but I can't believe I have to wait till August for Volume 2!
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I have just finished reading the volumes 1 and 2, and I love it. Azuma Kiyohiko has a great sense of humor, and Yotsuba is one of the cutest characters ever. I really like the story where she pretends to be a gangster and gets "revenge" on the neighbors.

Dad: "So how did your revenge go?"
Yotsuba: "I died."
Dad: "See, revenge gets you nowhere."

:D I hope they make this into an anime soon. How many volumes are out in Japan?
If you just see the leaf, you'll miss the tree;
If you just see the tree, you'll miss the forest;
To see everything, effortlessly, that is what it means to truly see.

Is this licensed in America? Where can you find scanlations? If links are not permitted, I guess we can take it into PM? :D

Couple of things:

-It's Jumbo, not her father, who asks her about revenge.

-There's an exclamation mark after "I died" that makes all the difference--with the facial expression she's so happy that she was killed.

-I've seen three released in Japan, but there could be more.

-Sakuya: it is licensed in the US by ADV Manga, and I have not seen any scanlations. If you want to see it free, the easiest thing would be to read it in the bookstore.

Yes. Go buy it, it's worth it. I believe two volumes are out now...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum
"Monster! I''''m going to collide with you indefinitely as my limbs flail wildly about!" ~NPC, Dragon Warrior VII
"I bet you were thinking how hot it would be to see Tsunade with her gates wide open, inviting you..." ~DuneMan
"To use gaming terms, Tyrannosaurus Rex was a camper--- and he pwned his prey!" ~BaronVonAwesome
"I prefer to beat my opponents the old-fashioned way: brutally!" ~Dinobot

Already?! I'm so behind. :cry: I hope Barnes & Noble has it. My Borders (or was it Waldenbooks) does not let us read the manga unless we buy it. And to make it worse, their entire manga shelf is RIGHT next to the cashier. -_-"

o_O how bizarre. I've never seen that. Every big bookstore (including Borders) that i've been into, the manga is way toward the back near the children's books and scifi, and we can sit down and read em.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I read this at Borders awhile ago. I really want to get it, but I want to wait until I finish up Cyborg 009. (but that's only like 10 volumes.. right?)

My local Waldenbooks (source of most of my manga) is set up like that too.

Guess I'm lucky then. Only the Suncoast around me seems to have a hard time with me reading manga without purchasing (and some are nicer than others).

Most Borders and Barne & Noble stores actually let you read the manga..
