DBZ Re-dub airing on June 14 on Cartoon Network.... Uncut

Post by The Wanderer » Wed Jun 08, 2005 11:13 am

Yes, you read right, the re-dub will air on June 14 at 10:30 P.M. Promos for the show touting the uncut-ness have been airing. The reason it's airing on Tuesday and not Monday is because CN forgot to air episode 15 of DBGT when it was on Toonami and they are airing it there.

To see the promo, go here: http://www.toonamiarsenal.com

I will not lie. I used to love DragonBallZ (Future Trunks, forever!). I even own DBZ VHS. I guess it's my sappy fondness for it that I'm going to watch it. I'd like to see what they cut out. ^^
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. I might watch it if I have nothing else to do and am desperate. I have seen enough of and know enough about the series to know what happens (thanks to a boyfriend who really used to be into the show), so I won't miss anything if I miss any episodes.

By the way, exactly how much of DBZ is getting re-dubbed? I know they aren't doing all of it, but I don't know how much Funimation had of it to make that determination for myself.

Only the Sayain and Namek sagas are being redubbed, since Funi didn't have the full rights to those episodes and the first three movies until last year. I can't wait for the CN showings, even though I was lucky to see a few of those episodes on International Channel years ago. It'll be a good way to wait until I eventually get the DVDs.

I'll be honest. When I was a kid, I loved DBZ and I used to watch it religiously every Saturday morning when it aired on YTV back in 1995. My friend and I were obsessed with it. We used to go to YTV's website and print out and color the coloring book pages they hosted there at the time. But then by 1997, they kept showing reruns, I got sick of it and I eventually stopped watching it. It'll probably be a while before the uncut version airs in Canada, but at this point, I could care less if it does or not.

Thank you, Dan-san. I still might watch it, but I don't really know yet.

Yeah, my computer seems to be doing that a lot. It picks out random words on a webpage and makes them a link, like a search link I would guess. I don't know, I've never clicked on one of them. But I also don't know how to make it go away. So I'm sorry it got messed up. ^_^;;

ahhh, yes, the z. when i was a (younger) kid i watched dragonball z like it was made by the hand of god herself. of course, by the time i entered high school i was sick of it. i got the urge to watch it a few months ago (in japanese) and wouldn't you know it: call me a dragonball fanboy! i then downloaded the saiyajin saga to see it for the first time in japanese, and now i think i like dbz more than i used to (or not, i'll be damned if i'm buying any more merchandise). as far as the re-dub is concerned, i don't really care. i'll just watch the first one to see if the music will be kept this time around.

I don't buy figures/posters, or anything like that. Manga/boxsets are enough for me.

OK, I'll admit it. I watched Dragon Ball Z from the very beginning up to the very end of the Namek Saga. The whole concept of JUST Goku being a Super Sayain seemed more original to me, plus I thought Freeza was kick ass (still do, really).

Are they re-airing the Cell saga, or the Buu saga uncut? I, personally, think they should make the DBZ Sayain saga and Namek saga uncut, and are those. But that's my opinion.

Me too. Especially since it was said that Super Saiyans were so rare, but then eventually everyone gets to become Super Saiyan.

Anyway, I'm curious how the redub went, even though I probably shouldn't hold my breath, since it was said that the dub script is staying intact, only it's being done by the newer voices, in which most of them sucked in comparison to the original VAs.

I saw the first DVD out of the newly done Saiyan saga. I'm upset to see that they still only have three episodes per disk. There's no reason there can't be at least twice that many episodes. Of course, FUNi knows that they'll make more money this way if they release more DVDs with fewer episodes. Does anyone know if the redubs include the infamous "lost episodes" that were originally skipped (like the first episode that introduced Gohan, and the episode with Gohan and the robot)?

Oh, yeah. I also saw the DVD for the first movie, redubbed. I'm not too sure about that one; Pioneer did a fine job when they did it (they should've been the ones redubbing DBZ, in fact).

I have to admit that I used to like Dragonball Z when it first came on. I actually used to wake up every Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. just to watch the latest episode on Fox. But then CN just had to buy this show and all the annoying fanbase who thinks Dragonball Z is the greatest anime of all time and if you don't like it you're sinning against God came in. The rude fanbase combined with the Namek Saga (or whatever the saga with Freeza in it is called) is what eventually drove me away from this show and made me hate it so much, so I was hoping this show would go away after it ended. Now we have to deal with the annoying fanbase for another five years. I wonder if those infamous Dragonball Z vs. Sailor Moon flame wars will come back now? I don't even watch CN anymore, so I don't really plan on watching this, although I have always been somewhat curious to see the Japanese version of Dragonball Z. But to be perfectly honest, I wish they would air uncut Dragonball instead. I actually sort of liked that show because it was at least half-way interesting. I wonder how the popularity of uncut Dragonball Z on Adult Swim will compare to the popularity of edited Naruto on Toonami....

Actually, they ARE airing the Saiyan and first half of the Namek Saga uncut. That's the redub. Also, the skipped episodes will air and it's not on Adult Swim, but general Cartoon Network.

Well, people might consider it to be on Adult Swim, because it is coming on at 9:30 CDT, which I believe is 10:30 EDT. That is right before Adult Swim. I wouldn't object if it got moved to AS though, because I heard some of the content is pretty violent, especially in the first two seasons. I might be wrong on that, though.

The content between Goku, Piccolo, and Raditz got extremely violent, and we never got to see it. Like Piccolo's blast actually going through both of them, and the bloody aftermath when they're both lying on the grass.

I'll never in my life figure out why they censored out Gohan's tears, though.....
