URUSEI YATSURA
Does anyone still watch this wonderful show? I myself stumbled upon it and I think the stories are a great way to take my mind off work and have a laugh, thrill or an occasional tear. I'm glad I happened upon it seeing that I was a child when it aired and I just wanted to see if anyone had anything to say about it. These questions are examples to use but please don't limit yourself to these topics.
-What did you think of the characters?
-What are your opinions on the 4th movie 'Lum The Forever'? What was it trying to say to the audience?
-Why do you think Lum was so damn sexy... or not?
-Do you think Ataru's Lechery had a negative impact on viewers?
-What was your favorite episode/movie?
yeah or neah, say it here
Anything to say of this comedic gem from the 80s!

Urusei Yatsura...I was wondering when we'd talk about this.
I never really got to watch the series much, however, love the manga! There were only a few volumes released in english, so for a time I only got a limited exposure. Luckily I found the online scanlations of the rest and I've been so happy! I do however own the first 5 movies and am hoping to get the OVAs.
To address the questions:
1. I love all the characters. Each one brings so much depth into their little world. Not to mention humor. The situations are insane and that's what makes me come back for more. Lum is my favorite. She's a little pushy, but also very caring. My second favorite is Ran. She's insane and is willing to blow you up, but yet she's so gentle and giggly when Rei is involved.
2. I love watching Lum the Forever, but I really am not sure what it was trying to say. My only guess is something about memories. It makes sense, but you can't really explain it. So weird.
4. Ataru is a complete lech, but at the same time, you know he loves Lum. I'd actually like to have seen more of those little romantic moments, but what can you do? I don't think it's a negative affect he has. It's just funny how he keeps trying and getting rejected by most females on the planet.
5. My favorite movie is The Final Chapter. That's the one where everything comes full circle. It was also the last arc in the manga. My second favorite was the 2nd one Beautiful Dreamer. That one is just funny. Only one that I didn't mind in english.
My favorite in the manga stories are Picking Hangya, where Ran thinks Rei is asking for an exotic food when he's just coughing and so she goes looking for it and Lum and Ataru tag along. Then there's Autumn of...Matsutake! it's about the class tying up the teacher and making Nabemono with some "Matsutake" that Cherry brings over. things just start to go haywire at that point.
This series is hilarious! If you haven't read it or seen it, you should. It's so worth your time. Also I read something on Rumic World about a petition to bring the rest of the manga over. We can only hope...

-Does anyone ever notice that there are a lot of Godzilla refrences in UY?
-Also, in Beautiful Dreamer in the scenes at the beginning that show all the students in costumes there are a few studends dressed in grey and black 'space man' outfits with visors like Geordi's from Star Trek. Now I am certian that they are from a Godzilla movie that involved 'Planet X' and possibly Gigan or one of the other space monsters. I have no clue what the movie was titled and cant seem to find it, does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about.
