Speaking of Miyu...Vampire Themed Anime

Post by Starscream » Mon Oct 27, 2003 7:36 am

First things first, my brothers are not fans of anime...at least, not to the extent I am. They enjoy the adrenaline rush of DBZ, and like cinematic things like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Aside from that, though, you won't find them watching Sailor Moon or its ilk of their own volition. Regardless, the older of my two brothers is into vampires, and he is a big fan of Blood.

Now, I was thinking of surprising him this Christmas with another vampire-themed anime, but something that he would like. Being a fan of Buffy and Bram Stoker's Dracula, I'd need something along those lines...I think Hellsing and Vampire Hunter D might fit well. I'm open to any other suggestions as to titles/movies he might enjoy, so I come to you for your opinions in this matter. Thanks :)

Well, if he's into gothic stories about witch-hunts with magic thrown in, maybe you could get Witch Hunter Robin? I've never seen it. It's pretty dark though, almost no smiles.

And if they like Japanese culture, you might try Vampire Princess Miyu. The OVA is darker and scarier than the TV version. But they might be too girly.

Don't forget about NightWalker. I'd say either NightWalker or Hellsing would be a good place to start as they'll be more familiar to fans of western vampire lore. (I've haven't seen Vampire Hunter D yet so I can't comment on that.) I'd wait until he's more into anime for Vampire Princess Miyu as it's so steeped in Japanese culture.
