I recently downloaded the new American-made Yugioh movie, "Yugioh The Movie: The Pyramid of Light" and finished watching it the other day. Since this movie is still being played in U.S. theaters it was obiviously recorded from the theaters. I know that's illegal, but I was too impatient to wait for it to be released on DVD and didn't want to surround myself with a ton of kids at the theaters, either. This movie had a pretty average evil bad guy tries to seek revenge against hero plot. It was predictable and not very original, either. I think it would've been better plot-wise if they had at least one plot twist in the movie, but I guess 4kids isn't that creative. The animation in it was really good, though.
The music is the same exact music from the tvshow, so it's not the best quality music ever. I think they even had a song from the English adapation of the tvseries inserted in the movie, too. It certainly sounded crappy enough to be from the tvshow. The singer sounded like some sort of Backstreet Boys reject and the lyrics were cheesy. I wasn't expecting this movie to have the best music, anyway. There was quite bit of content in this movie I found to be surprising coming from 4Kids. Since it's produced by 4Kids themselves, you would think this movie would have nothing "bad" in it at all, but they actually let Pegasus drink wine, for example. This is a shocker since they changed wine to "fruit juice" in the tvseries.
There's other stuff in this movie that was surprising too, such as the characters actually using the word "die", but I don't want to spoil the movie for you guys. I think they only mentioned the "Heart of the Cards" about three or four times in this movie, but it still made me cringe each time they did. Luckly, the "Shadow Realm" wasn't mentioned at all. There were some cute jokes in this movie, as well. My all-time favorite line is this one, "To duel the King of Games, you've gotta get through me, the um, Godfather of Games!"-Jonouchi/Joey. I thought that line was pretty cute, especially since he's saying it with that Godfather type of accent. ^^;; Overall, the plot is a little too simplistic and predictable, but the animation is excellent, the jokes are funny, and the duels are actually exciting to watch, too. As I had expected, "Yugioh The Movie: The Pyramid of Light" isn't something I would go see in the theaters, but I wouldn't mind buying the DVD when it's released. So, what're you guys thoughts on this movie?
