CLAMP to create manga for Marvel.

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Wed Jul 28, 2004 5:14 pm

Has anyone here heard about this? http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/5140.html
I think this decision is weird and really random for both CLAMP and Marvel. When you think of CLAMP, you think of series like Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, etc. And when you think of Marvel, you think of series like X-men, Spider-man, Daredevil etc. A series like Magic Knight Rayearth doesn't really have the same feeling that something like Spider-man does and vice versa, so it just feels out of character to me. I'll probably wind up reading it anyway, just because it's CLAMP, but there's one thing I'm wondering about and that's if CLAMP is writing both the story and drawing the artwork or will they just be drawing the artwork?
"If we can''t comprehend the plan at hand, how could a higher plan make any more sense? I'd say you can only be a martyr if you know what you are dying for, and choose it"-Elphaba

"Those who made mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix a mistake. Man can't return to the past. That's why we drink. Drunks, lushes, sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute the memories that can't be denied.-Vash The Stampede"

I don't see how CLAMP and Marvel seem weird together. Magic Knight Rayearth is very similar to many Marvel comics, as is Clover, and even X. Me personally, I'd have to hear more before I got excited. I like CLAMP, but they're not my favourites, so *shrug*
"I loved you. I was a pentapod monster, but I love you. I was despicable and brutal and turpid, mais je t'aimais, je t'aimais. And there were times when I knew how you felt, and it was hell to know it. My Lolita girl, brave Dolly Schuller."

I have heard about it, I wouldn't mind reading some of it to see what the plot is about.

I have never bought Marvel comics in my life. I'm not into American or Canadian cartoons, with the few exceptions such as Snoopy and kawaii series like that. But that's once in a blue moon. I love CLAMP and I'm into shojo anime/manga. It does seem weird combining the two together. If I like the story, I might buy it, but I dunno.

*is a Marvel brat*

I wonder if they will be tapping some Marvel characters/stories or if they are going to do something completely original. I read the site's article, but It really didn't say much as to plot.
I'm wondering about and that's if CLAMP is writing both the story and drawing the artwork or will they just be drawing the artwork?
I imagine that Marvel will write the story and come up with the rough sketches of characters then let CLAMP make their own interpritations of the designs. If CLAMP comes up with everything, then it's a CLAMP creation and Marvel has major room in the credits.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I'm a DC Comics kind of guy myself, though I have read some Marvel Comics on occasion. I'd like to see Naoko Takeuchi-sama draw something for DC Comics as Kia Asamiya did with "Batman: Child of Dreams". (That book ROCKED!!!!!!) :)
"Oh yeah. Someone is definitely tired of breathing." ("The Main Man", Part 1)

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.
