Anime You Used To Like But Now Hate

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Sat Apr 11, 2009 12:45 pm

Inspired by the thread about anime you thought you would hate but now like, what anime did you used to like but now you hate? For me, it'd have to be Voltron. I used to love it when it was on Toonami back in the mid-90s and it was one of my first anime along with Robotech. While Robotech is still a timeless classic in spite of its differences with Macross, to me Voltron just seems so horribly cheesy to me as an adult now. The voice acting is horrible, the heroes are all cliched stereotypes (though I don't know how much of this is the fault of the dub), the animation looks ugly to me and over-uses recycled footage, and the fight scenes seem silly to me now. Like they spend half of the episode just with the robots linking up and Voltron always defeats the bad guys in the same way. Sailor Moon could be episodic too but at least they would sometimes add variety to the fight scenes. I also think the cuts made to the dub are incredibly obvious even if you've never seen the original. Like it's obvious to anyone that the series doesn't take place on another planet but in a futuristic time on Earth and it's obvious that a certain character died. I don't know if GoLion is any better, but I can't understand why so many anime fans still love Voltron. I could see why it might appeal to some kids, I just don't see how it has the timelessness to it.

"Those who made mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix a mistake. Man can't return to the past. That's why we drink. Drunks, lushes, sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute the memories that can't be denied.-Vash The Stampede"

Back in the day I would watch Yu Gi Oh. I loved it back then, bought all the cards and would engage in "duels", or whatever they were called. Now I look back and wonder why did I waste my time and my money on Yu Gi Oh. The anime got really boring and the cards were just, weird.

Pokemon. It's not because of my own changing tastes though. It's just that the show used to actually be good and you only had to keep track of 150. Even 250 wasn't so bad, but now it's like over 500 and just rediculous. Also they took away Brock and Misty, so it just went way down hill. I now refuse to watch any episode made after the second season.
The Music of the Night and Tuxedo Mirage are what keep me from going completely INSANE! (right...)

Bleach: it just became another run of the mill shonen anime with lots of sword power ups contrived story plots.

Inuyasha: I wish I could take back every posetive thing I ever said about this anime. Just one over blown, dragged out, arbitrary plot after another with the main character and his love interest becoming repetive in their love lorn shinanigans. I wanted them all to die and get over with it.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience

Pokemon: When I realized they were just recycling the same three plots just changing all the names over and over and over and etc...

Yu Gi Oh: See above for Pokemon

Dragon Ball Z: See above for Pokemon (figured this one out a lot faster though so I guess I should have said it first)

Naurto: It was bad when it was Dragon Ball Z. Only took me half a season to figure this out. Also Ninja's in neon orange outfits??? WTF???
