Extra Edits on USA Network.

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Thu May 27, 2004 10:16 pm

Back when Sailor Moon was being aired on the USA Network, I remembered that they made extra edits probably for time length that I don't think were made on other networks or are included in the episode comparisions here at the SMU. What I was wondering was what were some of those "extra edits"? I remember that a lot of times they cut out the Sailor Moon Says segments at the end of the episode and I also remember that in episode one, part of Serena and Molly's conversation was shortened slightly. I also think USA cut out the part where Amy falls on Artemis in the episode, "Cherry Blossom Time", but I'm not sure if this was just a cut USA made to the episode or if it was cut out on other network's too. So, where there any other extra edits that USA Network made and of course, which ones?

I do remember what you're talking about.

I remember they cut out the scene where Chibi-Usa runs over one of the black moon sisters after she trips and it was left in when they showed SM on fox early in the mornings (local).

The only scene I can remember off-hand is in the R episode with the thunderstorm. At the end of the version on USA, they cut a part with Rini walking with and singing with Tuxedo Mask (no, he wasn't singing) after the rain dried up and Sailor Moon getting jealous and mimicing her song. I saw that part when it was on Cartoon Network and wondered what the point of cutting it was. Time, I guess.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but there's this one episode in R where the 4 "inner" soldiers suddenly find themselves floating around in mid-air because of some accident or somesuch. USA cuts the part when Raye floats up into Mina's dress, and she replies angrilly, "DO YOU MIND?"

I remembered another one! In an episode in the first season, where the Negaverse is after that priest's Rainbow Crystal, USA cut out the part where Serena sort of gives Melvin a noogie of some sort for saying something stupid that reminded Molly of Nephlite.

I remember that too, for some reason I think it's part of the thunderstorm episode also. I haven't seen R in a long time, so I don't know, though.

Heh I don't know why I remember this but there was also one in the episode where Mercury gets her Shabon Spray Freezing (forgot he dub name) power. after the Cardian gets killed, Moonlight Knight says he'll leave Moon and Mercury to take care of the babies crying ,and clears his throat. Then Moon says something about him being a typical guy but still hot.. or whatever. USA cut all of this out.

And this cut isn't USA but also.... interesting-

The dub left in the second scene where a dog pees on Emerald. (the first one earlier in that episode was cut) It was the episode with the daycare centre, and Artemis trying to be macho in the R season. CN removed the scene but the WB showed it. o_O(or maybe it was the other way around)
"This guy are sick."- Aeris (Final Fantasy VII)

I remember seeing the dog/Emerald scene on one station, and not seeing it on another. I think CN aired that scene, while NBC (locally) didn't.

I remember how the episodes changed from the WB version to the USA version. I thought it was jsut me who noticed these things. Also, speaking of edits, for some reason, I remember different dialouge. I decided to bring it up in this topic instead of creating a new one. During one of it's first airings on the WB in 1995, I recall the first two episodes with the maikaju being cut, and some other episodes, the dialouge being different. It may jsut be form memory, but a lot of the dialouge first aired on the WB is was changed in other airings. Their is a lot of dialouge I recall that is changed, like in the 45-46 edited episode, I recall someone saying "Let's leave now and come back when were older", and in the episode where Moonlight Knight apears, I remember the dialouge at the end of the episode was different. Also, I recall the english episode of Shining Crystal! The Moon Princess Appears! called A Crystal Clear Destiny originally had dialouge that was very close to the original Japanese version. I remember the USA edits also being different. I love pointing out edits and cut scenes and scenes played backwards. The USA version and the WB version and the FOX version had different edits I recall.

Please don't type in caps please. I'm saying this as nicely as I can. It's getting annoying.

Dic, Cloverway and all other parties involved obviously wanted to play it safe. They didn't want to air something that was completely new to North America at the time and risk getting complaints and eventually have the show pulled off the air.

i'll address you in two ways twinky:

1) the caps was to show how mad i was and i regret my decision... i apologize

And

2) thanks for the clarification
