Minako's Quotes

Post by Cardcaptor Takato » Fri Apr 30, 2004 5:22 pm

One of my favorite jokes in Sailor Moon is how Minako constantly gets famous quotes wrong. My favorite of Minako's quotes is "In spring, you sleep a sleep that knows no damn." Which of Minako's versions of famous quotes is your favorite?
"If we can''t comprehend the plan at hand, how could a higher plan make any more sense? I'd say you can only be a martyr if you know what you are dying for, and choose it"-Elphaba

"Those who made mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix a mistake. Man can't return to the past. That's why we drink. Drunks, lushes, sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute the memories that can't be denied.-Vash The Stampede"

I could only remember a few. One was from the first Ten'oh Haruka episode: "Haste makes dancing" when it should have been "haste makes waste".

And another one from an episode I can't remember. "Even a kappa can lose its bowels" when it should have been "even a kappa can drown." Hmm, that last one can make for a good dinner conversation!
"I want to go back to believing in everything and knowing nothing at all..."
~Evanescence, "Field of Innocence"

"I love you."
"WHAT!?! What did you say!?"
"Um, uh, olive juice!"
"...Olive juice?"
"*in a whisper* Olive juice you too!"
~Stewie and Brian, Family Guy, "The Tan Aquatic with Steve Zissou"

"It's no use crying over spilt cod's roe (fish eggs)"

"Life is short, and love's a battle!"

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

From episode 190. Ami, Makoto, and Minako are trying to cheer up Usagi, and Minako has just told her the phone number where she could reach the Three Lights. After Usagi has gone off to call Seiya...

Minako: My network even makes the DNA blush!
Ami: That's not DNA, that's CIA, right?

Being a literalist, I think imagining "blushing DNA" is funny!

That's not really a proverb or famous quote, but it's definitely a hilarious Minako moment. I love that scene as well.

Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

The one from SM:AS rpg "People who are alike eat each other".

Jupiter says "Don't you mean 'people who are alike ATTRACT each other?'"

And "We can't control the tongues of ours!" (I forgot which episode it's from.) She meant "We can't control the tongues of others"
"This guy are sick."- Aeris (Final Fantasy VII)

Also, from the SuperS movie, when Minako is eating all the chocolate, she says, "Well, you can't put a door on someone's mouth!" Which is true.

I like the one when Amy get's her pure heart stolen, and the rest are stuck with homework, without Amy...i think it's like: There's No Use Crying Over Spilt Hilk or something and Amy corrects her.
Rini: You guys are all lucky to have such wonderful stories from when you were little, I'm stuck with a meatball headed mom from the future, who can't cook to save her life!

That's from the one where Rei gets her heart stolen, episode 90, and in the original, it's the cod's roe line previously mentioned. In the dub, it's "There's no use crying over misspelled silk," which Usagi says is appropriate given the fact that they're all studying. One of the rare occasions when a dub joke is funnier than an original one.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

From the DIC dub (1st & 2nd season) they dropped Minako getting famous quotes wrong and when Sailor Moon S came about (Cloverway), we suddenly see Minako (AKA: Mina) with getting the famous quotes wrong which really throws fans who watched the Sailor Moon dub because she never acted like that in the 1st two seasons and we think that she is trying to act like Usagi, but in the original Japanese episodes Minako was always like this. Very interesting.

Actually, Mina did it atleast once in the DIC dub. It was in "Artemis' Dog Day" (was that the title?) She messes up the phrase "Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained".

I haven't watched the dub in a while so I did forget some things :o

But overall Minako's personality in the dub vs. original version is totally different.

I agree, in the Dic DUB she seemed more calm. But then when you watch cloverway she's all crazy.
