It made me believe that American dubbing companies don't know what the Seven Hells they're doing. (I'm right, aren't I??) :(
"Oh yeah. Someone is definitely tired of breathing." ("The Main Man", Part 1)

I'm writing this Sailor Moon/Green Lantern crossover AU fic called "Emerald Sunrise". It's a hybrid of Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy. It's about Ami (Sailor Mercury) getting a new boyfriend who just happens to be a member of The Green Lantern Corps. I'm also throwing in some other characters from other animes and some old Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the late '60's early '70's. I'm also illustrating it as well. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Not to sound rude, but Sailor Moon was dubbed in Canada, as were all of Viz and Nelvana's dubs.

Zoicite was a very very flat chested woman

Esmuradie was Zocite reborn ( for a few seccondxs then I reilsed but it was the voice )

The Moon star thingy was Moon trying ot get the others to yell star.

I kninda worked out that the "scouts" had diead in teh dub the fact that they wqere see thougth gave it away really

I stand corrected.

zoicite was a woman (i only found out he was a dude last year in a magazine, but then i never did see classic in japanese.)

every single evil person in the history of the universe was from the "negaverse."

that naru hated umino.

i used to write these little sailormoon comics in 6th grade using the dub names, as i thought these were their true names.

that every single character was overly concerned with fashion (fashon freak, fashon flop...)

she is the one named sailormoon or whatever was a cool song.

and that saying stuff like "dweeb-meister" was cool.

I too thought Zoisite was a girl...Wow..blows my mind that I never realized she was a guy before! This topic really made me realize a couple of things I never knew since I've only seen the dubbed version of SM. One thing that confused me though, was in the final episode of the first season, I did realize that the scouts must have died but then I got confused that maybe they didn't because they were all alive and well afterwards. Am I wrong or just confused?

Well, to answer that, I have descended briefly to that particular circle of Dante's Inferno known as Day of Destiny. And the epilogue of that version makes it seem as if the whole show was a dream sequence, and in winning they get to wake up. In the original version not only are the senshi other than Sailor Moon killed, but the battle with Beryl wasn't so direct. Usagi wished on the ginzuishou (silver crystal) that she could live a normal life, and since doing so would mean destroying the evil Beryl, it was done, and that's why they lost their memories. I also got the impression, and I may be wrong, that ifUsagi had actually released the ginzuishou's power toward the specific end of destroying Beryl, she would have had to sacrifice her own life to do so, as Queen Serenity did.

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

In the episode where the senshi got back their memory, thne music was a lot differnet. When Sailor Moon got her memory back, in the english version they had this exciting happy music play, and in the Japanese version, they ahd sad music playing. Also, their were flashbacks to things they cut out of the dub. In the one of the runs of the dub, they skipped the first two episodes where the senshi got their memroy back, whcih could confuse a lot fo the viewers. The Japanese versions of the episodes make things a lot clearer then the Englsih version.

When I use to watch the English version of Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon, I use to think that my favorite pair, Hakura and Michiru, were incestual cousins.

I found another one...
In episode 140 ("We love mini-skirts! Perfect fit soldiers", or "Clothes call" in dub), I seriously believed that Yoshiku Usui and his assistant were brothers. I went to the SMU website to see what changes had been made to the dub (since I frequently do that when I see new dub episodes), and I was like, "WTF? He's gay?"

Well, for DIC dub I pretty much believed everything. But I read so much on S and SS, nothing fooled me in the CWI dub.

You're basics, Zoicite was a woman, Scouts were captured in Day of Destiny, Alan and Ann were sent by Queen Beryl, but I also thought that Rei's Akuryo Taisan attack was because she was a scout. In the episode where her Granpa was turned in a youma, I didn't understand why only she could use her powers when not in "scout" form o___0;

Shortly after Sailormoon was taken off the air in Canada (about 1996-98) I found out about Castle in the Sky Sailor Moon and learned about all the differences. Then I found SMU before S and SS aired in Canada.

Before I watched the Japanese version of that one episode of Sailor Moon S where Hotaru's house gets screwed up and they go through all those dimensions, I used ot think that when Chibi-usa contacted the Sailor Senshi with the Luna-P ball, she said it really loudly for Hotaru to hear and even told Hotaru she contacted her friends, but for some reason Hotaru never questioned why Chibi-usa can use her Luna-P ball to contact her friends or how she knew to contact the Sailor Scouts. Of course, after watching the Japanese version of that episode, I found out what really happened during those scenes. ^^

After going through SMU, I realized another one. Back when S and SS aired in Canada, YTV aired two episodes every Saturday. One Saturday, I missed two episodes (the one where Uranus an Moon are handcuffed and the one where Yuuichiro gets his pure heart taken). I didn't see those for a long time. When I first heard the "Moonface" comment, I thought they found out about Serena's identity during one of the episodes I missed. Then I got really confused when I saw those two episodes where they really did learn her identity.

That "Moonface" nickname was dumb. I probably would've thought she knew her identity too if I hadn't read the illustrated summaries first. Was Moonface supposed to be the dub nick for "odango atama"? They already use meatball head for that. Why have two? o_O

One possible reason for making up a new nickname could be because they thought that since Amara is a new character, she wouldn't be in on Darien and Raye's joke--I'm pretty sure that in the Dream Dolly story on the dub, Darien gives Raye the idea to call Serena that. But, they're assuming no one told Amara, so she made up her own, even though the new name is confusing because it does assume that Amara knows Serena is Sailor Moon.

I was decieved... no fair DiC no fair at all. The series would have done worlds better on Adult swim. DiC and Cloverway made me believe that:

1) Zoicite was a woman
2) Luna was more mature
3) The Sailor Scouts were in some imaginary country (i was naive when I watched the dub and new to anime).
4) Zircona was a man!
5) Makoto Kino had a living mother.
6) Fish eyes was *gasp* a different gender.
7) Makoto had different feelings about Haruka (see the episode In Sailor Moon S where she nearly gets run over by Haruka).

Yes: (courtesy "Who Wants To Know" English transcripts)

Episode 8: Nightmare in Dreamland

(Later, they ride a kiddie train to catch up with Amy at the Sweet Dream Factory.)

Raye “You're the laziest person I've ever known.”

Serena “Come off it, Raye. This is a great way to check things out.”

(The train stops suddenly, sending Serena forward…right into the guy in front.)

Panda Driver “Sorry about the sudden stop, folks. A couple o' turtles crossing the road.”

Serena “Nice brakes.”

Darien “Do you mind?”

(Serena gasps as she sees who she bumped into: Darien!)

Serena “Aren't you a little old for this?”

Darien “You should talk, but actually, this is exactly where you belong…Meatball Head.”

(Raye had never seen Darien before, but she immediately likes how he treats Serena.)

Raye “Of course. That's the perfect name for her: 'Meatball Head.'“

Darien “I think it kind of fits.”

Serena “Ooh…”

Raye “You know. 'Meatball Head.'“

Serena “STOP! DON'T CALL ME 'MEATBALL HEAD'! You're a pain, Darien! An even bigger pain than my so-called friend Raye! What are you doing playing choo-choo anyway?! Hah! You…you look like a…a big dork!”

First, please realize that I was first exposed to DiC Sailor Moon when I was around eight. (That's when it first aired in the US.) The dub made me believe that Sailor Moon took place in an international school in France. Yes, France. This made sense to me, because Molly has a New York accent, Amy has a British accent, I could pretty much tell Rei was Asian and I thought that was the Eiffel Tower. Thinking about that now really makes me laugh.
