What did watching the dub make you believe?

Post by Chibi Son Gokou » Mon Apr 05, 2004 11:47 am

Here is where to discuss what the dub made you thought how the plot and things on Sailor Moon were suppose to be before you saw the original. Many of the obvious ones are like "I believed that the senshi were captured in the last episode of the classic season and not killed".

The one I just realized was that the evil wand Rubeus gave Petz was actually 100% destructive. It would kill or destroy anything it touched. But the dub made me think that it could turn Cooan and Bertisu (sp) back into evil, and that Rubeus still needed them.

Hrm...It made me think that Beryl was just 100% evil, and was just taking Endymion away from Usagi to hurt her. In actuality, in the original, Beryl was in love with Endymion in the past, before she was influenced by Metallia's power, and she really wants him by her side, but she doesn't know any other way than Metallia's evil way. In the dub, she just seemed like this one-demensional evil villain, but in the original, she actually has a past and emotions..

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

In the episode where their were flashbacks to the past I originally believed something a lot different, and then I saw the Japanese version and realized how much clearer everything was. I believed that once they got on the moon, Queen Serenity sent them to a magical alternate universe. In this universe, everyone lived in a magical kingdom. Queen Serenity sent them there right then because she wanted to make everyone's lives happy again. Everything was magical in this world. Everyone was there and happy and Sailor Moon was a princess again and Tuxedo Mask was a prince again. All the senshi guarded them. Everything was magical in this kingdom. Then, somehow, Queen Beryl teleported to this land and all of her shitenou were alive again. Then after she attacked and everyone was destroyed, Queen Serenity knew that to save them she had to send them back to their normal world were they were, and they'd have no memory of the magical land she sent them to. So she sent them all back to the cave and they had no memory of that magical land. Back then the dub didn't make it clear that these were flashbacks. When I saw the Japanese version I realized how much clearer they made it.

Another one is in the two parter at the end of the first season. I was confused and thought the senshi were just trapped, although I was wondering if they were alive or kidnapped. I was wondering how they could survive being trapped in ice. Then when Tuxedo Mask protected Sailor Moon in his prince form, I believed he was still alive, so Sailor Moon would return to him after she fought Queen Beryl, so I beleived he waited there while she fought. I also was extremely confused when all the senshi were suddenly back when they fought Queen Beryl, so I came up with a theory that they were all taken to a room when they were kidnapped and now they were released from the room and fighting. When I got my fansubs and saw the Japanese version it all made sense and I realized what really happened when I saw the Japanese version.

I believed a lot more, but those are some of the ones I mentioned.

Many, many things. A few:

Luna was an old British woman.

Zoisite was a woman. I always used to think she was flat-chested.

The senshi were really just captured in Day of Destiny. I was very confused about that.
I am a loser!

-Zoicite was a woman
-The daifuku in epiosde 30 were those chocolate cakes with pink marshmallows surrounding them

I'm not sure what I thought about the other stuff.

LOL, I thought that too. Actually, they were chocolate cakes but they were covered in that powered sugar and some of them had pink food coloring.

Also, I originally thought Motoki wanted to be a doctor, and that she took Usagi to some steakhouse to get a steak, french fries, and chocolate malt, and then she went to buy DONUTS instead of odongos (which was funny because Darien said "hey meatball head, or should I call you 'donut head', you're really chowing down")

The dub made me think Chibiusa was from the "negaverse"

It's kinda sad remembering these things. Then again, I was kinda young when I first watched SM, so I believed everything the dub said.

-I don't think I knew Sailor Moon was from Japan o.O
-Zoicite and Fish Eye were female and Zirconia was male
-Haruka and Michiru were actually related.

Those are the major things. Everything else was minor, if there was anything else.

Fish Eye looks more like a woman than some of the women in the series (*coughHarukacough*) do... and he has a woman's voice, too. It's like the anime producers were screwing with our heads for a few episodes until they refer to him by gender...

The only thing I beleived is the thing about the final confrontation with Beryl. I'd only watched American cartoons until this (where the good guys are often captured) so it made sense enough...

Oh yes, FishEye. I actually don't remember whether I was fooled by FishEye or not. I think I was, though, but I wasn't that weirded out to find he's really a man.

- Zoicite was a woman
- The "cakes" Serena took to Raye in the episode with Juju? Jilgy? The one where Raye's grandpa's Rainbow Crystal was stolen really were cake. (But the "weird cake shape") thought kept running through my mind.
- Rei hated Usagi (Since it seemed like Raye hated Serena...)
- The senshi were captured at the end of season 1
- The Negaverse was the spawn of every evil
- Chibiusa hated Usagi with her whole heart
- Dimando's love issues could be cured by a phychiatrist. (Well it seemed to me like he was just lonely, not 110% fanboy to Neo Queen Serenity)

Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!

The dub was a strange world all it's own. I believed that......

1. The senshi were just captured and holding off the enemy while Usagi went on to Beryl.
2. The dead senshi helping Usagi were really just her imagination.
3. Zoicite was a girl.
4. Luna was a really old cat with a british accent.
5. That Rei hated Usagi.
6. Usagi was 100% whiny. (upon viewing sub...she's now 50%)
7. That Makoto was really talking about her acting talent and not her chest size.
8. Luna was heartless.
9. that there really was a sailor moon says segment on the end of every episode.
10. that all things bad involved the negaverse.
11. Attack names can be changed daily.
12. Mamoru had no remorse for breaking up with Usagi. (That make up scene didn't have the same impact in the dub. Seemed forced somehow)

1.) Luna and Artemis were both really old.
2.) The Silver Millenium really was a thousand years ago ^^;
3.) Usagi was a whiny brat with no positive traits.
4.) Minako was from England (don't ask).
5.) Beryl was evil for no reason.
6.) Chibi-Usa was the most annoying anime character ever created.
7.) The Sailor Senshi were really called "Scouts".
8.) All the villians made stupid, corny jokes and puns (only about half of them actually do XD)
9.) No one could die, except Nephrite.
10.) That very bad slang was all the rage in Japan. XD
11.) The Senshi really were just captured in Day of Destiny, just like with nearly everyone else.

Interestingly enough, though, even in the English dub, I still thought Raye and Serena were best friends, even though they fought a LOT. And thankfully for me, I knew the "truth" about Haruka and Michiru prior to S coming to America, so I never thought for a second that they were actually cousins.

Actually, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought that Chibi-usa really was from the Black Moon and that was from watching the subbed version, but of course, I knew that wasn't the case because I had already seen the dubbed version. ^^ I used to think that Game Machine Joe really gave all those toys he won from the crane game to little kids before I watched the original.

I thought Rini was just a girl who was their friend or the little sister of one of the Scouts, since the first Sailor Moon thing I saw was the R movie, then I saw the S season next and learned where she was from. I didn't see the R season until much later, and by then I had cultivated a great affection for the pink-haired goddess.

Technically it had to have been sometime in the past, right?

O.o What the hell kind of name for a place is "Silver Millennium", anyway?
