Pon-padapda PON!
Audio and screen capture comparisons to be done on request. (Only Episodes 1 through 18 for now, I only have vols. 1-3. Vol.s 4 & 5 will be here soon and Vol.s 6 - 8 will be ordered shortly.) Please specify the exact second of what you you want.
The disc itself.
I've been working with DVDSubber and SubRip to add a Subtitle track. It took me awhile, but I've finally figured out the nuances to the bastard. (ADV's sub track will the base for the track with tweaks and minor changes. I need to find a reliable source for the next episode previews though.)

I'd liked to see audio and visual comparisions...I suppose anything from episode 2. Episode 2 had the worst audio out of them all, IMO. Oh yes, I would like to hear the audio from episode 33 (I think that's the episode number?) from the part where the Silver Crystal appears and there's the song being played in the background. It's just that you can barely hear anything from the song on ADV Films' DVDs at all.

Recieved Vol 4 & 5 in the mail today, allowing me to do requests up to episode 30. (I had CD Japan "race" AMO Tokyo. AMO Tokyo won by one day. So I'll be placing all of my future R2 orders with whoever offers me a better deal.)
I've nearly finished making the script for episode 1. The timimg still needs a few quarter second tweaks here and there.
However, does anyone have a script to the "New TV Series" announcement that serves as the Next Episode preview for episode 1? I can't find a script anywhere that has it.

Episode 1 is done. (Aside from not having a script for the episode preview). In celebration (or something), here is a couple video and audio comparisions between the R1 and R2 releases.
Left is R1, Right is R2
http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images ... mp01-1.jpg
http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images ... mp01-2.jpg
As you can see, the R1 is noticably faded. The colors muted.
R1 Audio: http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images ... mpr101.mp3
R2 Audio: http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images ... mpr201.mp3
All I can say is night and day, big time. And this is episode 1, supposedly on of the better ones!
More to come as I make scripts for the next episodes.

http://www.gsoftnet.us/ScriptCrypt/sm.html is the URL to the storage of all scripts for Sailor Moon. If you can use SSA files, then you should be golden to use them, though there are a bunch that are in plain text too, and you can also read the SSA files in notepad or any other text viewer. Unfortunetly it does not have the "New TV Series" announcement that plays before episode 1, but I am willing to make you a script with times for that little segment if you need. If you need any help for making and distributing your subs, just drop me a line on PM or e-mail because I'm more than happy to help out on a project of subbing using the R2s as the video source however I can.
Also, the MP3 links don't seem to work for me, I don't know if they are or not for anyone else, and if need be I'm willing to host them here. PM or e-mail me to arrange something if it comes to that. If possible, would you be able to make small video clips comparing the two releases? I've been hearing so much on how good the R2 is, have actually heard a bit of the audio myself but have yet to see how well the video was redone, and I'm sure others would like to see too.

There's not much of a difference picture-wise. I mean, the Sailor Moon anime is only twelve years ago. It's not like it's from the 1940s and looks badly faded or anything on the R1 DVDs.
Actually, I'm more used to the colors on the R1 DVD ^^;

I'd love to get ahold of that script. and SSA v4 would be perfect since that's one of the formats I'm saving it in. I don't really know how to to video rips yet. Maybe I'll learn when I finish all the scripts.

Re: Today, in my mailbox...
Did I interpret wrong or did you say you're adding an extra subtitle track onto the R2 DVDs? Is that even possible to edit existing official DVDs?Aya Reiko wrote: I've been working with DVDSubber and SubRip to add a Subtitle track. I'm having trouble with making my DVDs have selectable subtitles and I was wondering since you figured it out, if you could help me?

I'm artifically adding a new sub track to the R2 DVDs. (FYI, the R2 DVDs sports no sub track at all.)
Current plans is to add a sub track to the main series. Another idea I'm batting around is adding a sub track to the extras. Adding a track to the clean OP/ED should be easy. But the other extra, additional promos for the series, would require me to find a translator who'll do the job for free.
Another thing I'm debating about is whether or not to include honorifics (-chan, -kun, etc.).

If I may interject my opinion? I would suggest including the honorifics.
I think that they are important to the character interactions. Like in episode 15 when Usagi is trying to con Umino into a "date" so she can eaves-drop on Rei and Mamoru. The way she say's "Umino… …kun" is hilarious (to me, anyway).
That's just my opinion, which you are fully welcome to ignore. ^_^;

Yo!
Sakuya gave me the heads up about what was going on here and I had to check it out. I have the R2 DVDs and have been wanting to do something like this but haven't had the time. I'd love to get a copy of whatever properly timed scripts you end up with and see how you get this done.
As for next episode previews I resubbed the first 10 episodes a few years back and can offer those timed scripts to you... if I can find them. Let me poke around. They're mostly just fixed up from other scripts I found though so I don't know if there's much new insight there. I seem to remember putting words to previews that the scriopts didn't have words to but this was 2 or 3 years ago so I'm not sure.
When I'd subbed those 10 episodes it was a chore because the timing was so off that I basically had to retime everything. I don't know how close these ADV ones are to the R2s though. You can use ramping and stuff to try to synch them up but like I said with what I was using in the end I found it quicker (hours still) just to go through the episode and retime everything.
Let me know if there are scripts for any episodes you can't find. I have all of them here but I'm assuming you're getting them from the same place I am.
Still hoping to find some scripts for the live action though.
Okay I found 1-6:

I might have the others around somewhere.

Should've listened to him...aDam wrote:Don't get your hopes up. The other discs just have the opening/closing as well. Why they didn't include a lot of the junk from the laser discs is a mystery to me.
All five volumes, and probably the three I have on order, have the same extras; a clean OP/ED and all of the next episode previews (the ones not on R1 DVDs) playing together back-to-back.
So there's no real point to bother adding a sub track to either of the extras...
..well, maybe a karaoke style track for the OP/EDs...

Crap...I already purchased Season 1 on DVD. I was PISSED at how bad the sound was, but the picture quality is just peachy IMO.
Some episodes have worse sound than others, but for some reason with the 2nd ending, the song at the end sounds GREAT O_o. Humm...
But I had to grab them because they are no longer availible commercially in the US (well besides whats left on the store shelves I guess), and I really wanted it and wasn't sure if we'll ever get the commercially subbed DVDs again.
And I have a 56K connection with a 200MHZ processor, so downloading/watching fansubs is out of the question for me, so I guess just purchasing the DVDs was the right move for me, though better sound quality would be nice.
Anyway, are you gonna do the R season by any chance? I've never had the priviledge of seeing R Uncut/subbed.
And also, has there been a commercial DVD sub release of R in america yet? If anyone knows, and if so do they have shitty sound quality like Season 1 did? Sorry if this isn't the right thread for this but since we're on the topic of the DVDs and all...ehh

There have been a subbed boxset release with R by ADV with the same treatment from the first season. Again, there's an audio glitch somewhere. I'm sure they corrected it by now. The audio might be so-so, I never got the R boxset. And yes, they will be commercially unavailable as well.
There are always bootlegs if you really definitely want to get this set, it is much cheaper. However, I have yet to see the bootleg company who copied ADV's season boxset to release a copy of the R boxset.
And, there is no Japanese Sailormoon R DVDs in Japan as of yet. I have to ask, will Aya Reiko be doing the movies as well or does she not have the Japanese movies boxset?
