In the cartoon, Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten are male, but when the transform, they become female. In the comic, they are always female, but dress as boys in order to better find their Princess.

Anime: No. They're alien women who came to Earth and turned themselves into rock-star guys. Then when they transform, they turn back to their female forms. There's evidence in the show that the female forms are the originals. From episode 194:
(Seiya and Kakyuu are talking)
Kakyuu: Do you always use this form here on Earth?
Seiya: (blushing slightly) Well, it was the best way to find a woman.

Or something like that. I don't remember their exact lines, but that's approximately what they were saying. I don't mean to be disrespectful, Starscream, it's just that I'm pretty sure the female forms came first.

Manga: Definitely not. They're just cross-dressers, like Starscream said.

I think Starscream was using the simplest explanation possible. Plus, if you think about it, he isn't wrong. Seiya, Yaten, and Taiki are names they take on as males, so technically, to say that those three are male is correct. Now, if he were to say "Starfighter, Starhealer, and Starmaker" are male, that woudl be wrong, becuase the WARRIOR part of them is female.

You're welcome, Starscream. I just tend to remember that because I prefer them as girls so I like to imagine them being girls on their planet instead of boys.

Also, here's where I got my information and ideas from:

What DVD? One with the Starlights on it? No, there is no legal SailorStars merchandise yet in the USA. There is some bootleg stuff, like fansubs and fandubs, but not in stores.

*Blink blink* Uh...of course. Just as Artemis said..look at Haruka. We can put on men's tuxedos, and bind our breasts, tied our hair back, or crop it. We can put on baggy jeans, baggy t-shirts, and put a cap over our hair..i've seen some very, very convincing female crossdressers, especially at conventions.

^_^;; I understand now. I was confused because women wear pretty much the same clothes men wear in addition to stuff that most men don't wear.

Yeah, I can see how it'd be confusing..it jsut takes a bit of work, just like with a man who is a hardcore crossdresser.

Sadly, anything you heard in regards to an official Stars release was pure speculation. TOEI, the company which holds the rights to the cartoon in Japan, has refused to sell it to the United States for a number of reasons, among them being not wanting to shed the "kiddie" image that Sailor Moon already holds here. Further, TOEI is trying to downplay the cartoon in favor of the comic and live-action versions, so it's not renewing any leases for any of the other seasons, either.

hi, i was wondering can someone please tell me the romanization of the speech the starlights say? i tried listening but i couldnt catch it :( and i looked all over google and found nothing, just the speeches the senshi give and i already knew those >_<

*UPDATE!*
I had to go after i wrote that and didnt get a chance to give my opinion of the starlights(because my opinion matters... muwhaha)

Really? >_>....... thats hot <_<
But no seriously i already knew that XD i've seen quite a few myself... some of them made very hot guys o_o

But On-Topic!
Seiya - I dont like the Seiya of the Anime, he's too much like Mamoru and I dont care for Mamoru Of the Anime so the two just annoy me, However the Seiya/Usagi thing to me is fine, i'm gay so i dont see lesbian relationships as a huge thing(and especially after Haruka and Michiru) and since he can be either male or female in the anime.. well Usagi gets the best of both worlds o_o. However i did like him(and Mamoru) of the Manga

Yaten - Is my favorite starlight, he's so bitchy and he called Michiru's lipstick trashy... i was expecting her or haruka to attack him <_> It sucks he wasnt as developed as Seiya because I think he had more character just didnt get to shine.

Taiki - No. Neither forms. Anime or Manga i dont like this character. the anime; he's weird and his voice is weirder and his foreheads huge.

And as someone else asked - Does the Princess count as a starlight? if she does, SHE is my favorite(Manga version) the Anime had her die out far too quickly. didnt even give her time to develope a character, whereas the manga shes a Senshi and lasts until that bitch drove that staff through her.

But something that annoys me about the Starlights(anime) when they(any of them) scream they sound like drowning cats. Seiya and Yaten have the best screams of the bunch. the Princess and Taiki have weird ones, Taiki's is too deep and the Princess' just sounds weird to me, but all in all, they either sound like nails on a chalk board or Darth Vader.

I don't really like any of the Starlights. I never liked the Seiya and Usagi one sided relationship. Maybe that's because I like the shipping of Mamoru and Usagi.
I reject your reality, and substitute my own. Adam Savage.
