Do most fans really like S the most? The majority of the fans I've come across seem to like Stars the best.yoshmaster5 wrote: it turned out for the better though... I agree with OTF...Realism in R? Her little girl came from the future, then they went BACK to the future, there was a giant alien crystal in the middle of tokyo...that's not very realisic to me. NONE of the plotlines are realistic..that's what makes it a magical girl anime. I think the emotions in every season are all just as strong.

In response to Tiff's last post, what I meant by "realism" was that the emotions were realistic, and the whole point of my rant, really,is to share the personal opinion that the ending of R was nice enough to be the series' finale, because it felt like true peace and happiness was there at least. Not to sound redundant, but enemies from the past were fought(Classic),the Five Senshi's memories were revived, enemies from the future were fought(R),Usagi and Mamoru could finally be a happy couple after so much shit, etc.I mean, all loose ends were tied and everyone and everything was alright.Because of this,I think that S and so forth feel more like excuses to keep the ratings going or the fans satisfied.
And thanks for the warm welcome,Jeff! That's cool how you live in the Sunshine State, too!

#1 - Stars, because it was just overall cool, it had the return of an old baddie, and there were evil Sailor Senshi, and Galaxia was pure badass.
#2 - S, because it was so much more mature than the previous 4 and it was very dark and death/distruction proned (which I love in an anime).
#3 - R, and I mean both the aliens with the tree and the dark moon family thing, because it was all just grand, I can't really explain. I loved the wiseman/doom phantom/whatever because he just doesn't look like someone you'd see in Sailor Moon, much less as a character with such a big role.
#4 - C, because they didn't have as cool powers yet, and I'm pretty sure Mercury and Jupiter only had a single attack the whole season, which wasn't very nifty. Also the battles weren't that great through most of it, but towards the end it got better and the last episodes was one of the best ever.
#5 - Super S, because, eh, all those damn Chibi Usa/Pegasus scenes...gahhh, and alot of the monsters were just odd...where they'd come out and I'd go O___O, and lets not even get into the attacks these monsters had. However, I did like this season just like all the others, but the highlight for me was the Amazoness Trio, and the dark circus inside with Zerconia, and the last episode with the old hideous Nehelania.
I couldn't do without any of them though...the whole Sailor Moon universe just rocks.

What about the introduction of the Outer Senshi? Wouldn't it follow that the other planets in the solar system have their own senshi, especially since we were introduced to Sailor Pluto in R but there are 3 more planets that come before Pluto?Rindesayu wrote:In response to Tiff's last post, what I meant by "realism" was that the emotions were realistic, and the whole point of my rant, really,is to share the personal opinion that the ending of R was nice enough to be the series' finale, because it felt like true peace and happiness was there at least.

Yes, and while this isn't true in the SuperS or SailorStars anime, in the Stars manga we learn that:FoxFire wrote:
All the villains, Metallia, the Doom Phantom, Pharoh 90, Nehelenia and Chaos as well as all the Senshi are from the Galaxy Cauldron. So at least the Stars manga tells where all the villains are from, which isn't really answered as clearly in the other series. Not to mention that in the S and SuperS manga, we know that Sailor Saturn was the one who ended the Moon Kingdom, and we learn of another villain who attacked in the past, Queen Nehelenia.
It just seems like those three seasons are unneeded in the anime because those elements I mentioned are manga-only. But in the manga, all five sections have something to contribute to the story of the Sailor Senshi's past, present, and future.

I felt that way about the end of Classic, but not the end of R. The end of Classic is so strong, and so perfect, and so full-circle-y, that it almost makes me wish there weren't another 154 episodes.Rindesayu wrote:In response to Tiff's last post, what I meant by "realism" was that the emotions were realistic, and the whole point of my rant, really,is to share the personal opinion that the ending of R was nice enough to be the series' finale, because it felt like true peace and happiness was there at least.
*Shrug* I like it the way it is.
If they ADDED more episodes, then I think that would be a bit much.
But that doesn't mean I wouldn't watch it XD

I haven't read enough of the manga to havean opinion on it but here's my anime ratings:
1. R, Black Moon Arc: My favorite villians, an all around awesome story, and Chibi-Usa is actually tolerable and sympathetic. Add to that that it had the best songs with lyrics(Aino Senshi, Otome no Policy, and Moon Revenge) and solid BGM.
2. S - Probably as dark as shoujo gets, an intense story that offers an interesting break from the normally high levels of cute in the series. Chibi-Usa is again bearable for most of the episodes, but there are exceptions to this. And the Outer senshi are awesome. The music was great, especially the violin work.
3. Stars - Animation second only to SuperS, but an amazing plot. The Sailor Animates were great, and the Starlights and ChibiChibi are interesting but perhaps unneeded additions to the Sai.or Team. Best music of all seasons, closely edging out S.
4. R, Mokuji Arc - If it were longer, it might be my favorite, but its too short to realyy develop Ail and En to the levels they deserve. They were so sympathetic...great arc all in all, but lacking to a certian extent in substance. And Moonlight Knight > Tuxeado Kamen.
5. Classic - The story is great, and I love Nephrite and Zoicite, but the animation and music were both lacking somewhat (compared to the other seasons). The climactic moments were all done very well, but the filler was somewhat dull at times.
6. SuperS - IMO, this one had the best animation, but the Chibi-Usa centered plot detracted somewhat from everything else. Also, the fact that the Dead Moon Circus never uses its power over nightmares (as it did in the manga) bothers me. that was an awesome power.

Stop squirming, you're making the procedure more difficult.
I'm not sure if this is on topic or not, but one of the reasons some people don't like SuperS is because it has a lot of filler and that the story got dragged on too long. I think S had a pacing problem too, mainly with the villains. It's like they took too long with Eudial and Mimete, so the last three Witches only got about one story each, and I feel their parts were rushed. Maybe each of them should've gotten equal time; it seems odd that the S villains got unequal times to be shown, when in most of the other seasons the villains got more or less equal billing. Of course, I may be biased, since I'm a Viluy fan (I DO like Mimete and Eudial, I just think it was strange and unfair for them to steal all the pure-heart-crystal grabbing action).

I haven't seen the Japanese anime (but I'm going to someday!) but I've read the manga:
5. Dream Arc (Super S): it was cute, and it had some very good vilians (I LOVE Palla Palla, she's so cute yet stupid), but I felt that there was something missing.
4. Black Moon Arc (Romance): very good storyline, likable Chibi-Usa (I wanted to hug her until she became Black Lady), it kinda confused me sometimes though.
3. Rainbow Arc (Super): I loved Hakura and Michiru! I found this saga kinda repetitive at times though.
2. Classic Arc (Sailor Moon): IMO, this was indeed a classic. In book two, I got freaked out when Queen Beryl killed Mamoru. It also made me cry when Usagi was trying to bring Mamoru back
1. Stars Arc (StarS): Like they say, strong begining, strong finish. It was pretty sad seeing Naoko killing off the Inner and Outer Senshi, but when Sailor Moon destroyed Chaos, and got married to Mamoru, I cried for hours. IMO, the best ending I've ever read.

I know this is a really really really old topic, but I wanna add my ranking to it....
Sailor Moon R:I just think this season had the most variety, and the coolest villians. And it introduced Chibiusa, who I like, even though everyone else hates her.
Sailor Stars:This season was so cool, I loved the who Sailor Wars Legend thing. It also had the best fillers, the only season that I feel needed more of those!
Sailor Moon:The season that started it all, is really the most romantic series, and has some really cool character developement episodes. The finale was just heart wrenching!
Sailor Moon S:This season introduces the outers and has a really interesting plot with Hotaru and everything. However, I think this series really drags, a lot, more than SuperS I think, it has some fillers that are just sorta' blah.
Sailor Moon SuperS:I ranked this one last, even though I really like it a lot more than most people here seem to. I like all the Chibiusa Pegasus stuff, I think it's sweet. I ranked it last because the beginning does tend to drag, and some of the monsters of the day are bizarre.

Sadly I haven't seen the alleged Sailor Stars season, the dubbed version ended with Super S.
But quite actually I enjoyed the whole series. I prefer to treat all the senshi equally anyhow including Chibi Usa fans, besides Super S season gave Chibi some more character and improved upon the story.
Stylish Rankings to All Seasons (Ranking Letters in Bold):
Stars: Absolute. Haven't seen it, but from the looks of it and the stories I've read about it this has brought some downright coolness to the anime.
Super S: Bravo. I enjoyed the season pretty well in dubbed (Want to see subbed but can't find it anywhere.) plus it added more depth to the characters.
Sailor Moon S: Stylish. This is incredible, it even could have inspired Kingdom Hearts' enemies "The Heartless". This is just pure greatness it had tons of action, it adds much more depth to all the characters. It even introduces the Outer Senshi (whom rock the house with their super weapons). This season has even inspired me for a few various projects of mine.
Sailor Moon R: Asolute. This is where things get interesting, Time travel rules. Period. Plus the enemies were pretty cool to begin with. Cardians had the higher cool bad-guy ratio from the looks of it (come on, minotuars are cool).
Sailor Moon: Bravo. The very dead beginning of the series. Now this is greatness at it's birth, sure the Senshi weren't nearly at their fullest power yet. However this is besides the point, they still had that edge over their enemies in the end, plus it had such a brilliant ending as well.
I want to see Stars season come to america, but only if it comes to something decent like Adult Swim or Tech TV. In other words, we should count our blessings here and be thankful that that season is currently "untouchable" by official dubbers everywhere

OK, Sailorasteroid's top 5 Sailor Moon seasons!
Number 5: Sailor Moon R.
The bad: the season is split, costing both plots depth. Chibiusa is introduced, and she certainly brought controversy and divisiveness to the fanbase--and I don't like her. But the biggest problem is the lack of a well-charactarized main villain. Wiseman/Death Phantom was simply not sufficiently explained, and the ending suffered for it. Plus the fact that there are two complete throwaway episodes doesn't help.
The good: The Ail/Ann arc is great stuff, and so is the stuff with the Black Moon family.
Number 4: Sailor Moon SuperS
The bad: FILLER. There are maybe 10 plot episodes and most of the rest are just monster-of-the-day attacks secondary character, and Senshi come and save them. And the relationship between Chibiusa and Pegasus is just creepy.
The good: most of the filler is still good, and if it's not, the lemures are funny. The Amazon Septet are the best set of mid-level villains. And there was a well-fleshed-out main villain for the first time in 3 years. If SuperS had just taken itself a little more seriously, it could have beaten out. . .
Number 3: Sailor Moon Super
The bad: no main villain at all, at least none that actually made it to Earth. Uranus was kind of a jerk for a positive character, but it just gave her depth.
The good: Shades of grey characters, specifically the outers. Saturn shows up, and I *like* her. And the Chibiusa-Hotaru subplot is pretty good, and helps sell Chibiusa as a positive character, if one season too late.
Number 2: Sailor Moon
The bad: they were still putting things together and so the animation quality is slightly lower. And Jadeite never really got his props. Other than that, nothing.
The good: well, they set up everything, everyone got their share of screentime (except maybe Minako), two beautifully tragic episodes (24 and 45). On paper, it's probably number one, but the show isn't on paper.
Number 1: Sailor Moon Sailor Stars
The bad: a lot of the structure is a rehash, the split nature is like R, the new-senshi storyline is like S, the Mamoru-in-trouble, heck that happens twice a week!
The good: The rehashing seems more like a reprise or an encore, an attempt to do what was good better. The whole series, including that great new OP song, has a feeling of reaching an ending, and when it finally does, you get the feeling that everything is going to be all right, for the first time in the series, and that's such a great feeling, that this has to be the best season.

Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"
The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."
