Seasons

In which order do you like the seasons and why?

ANIME

#6 - SMR part 1 - Nothing but filler. It was boring.
#5 - SS - There were some good songs, but there was virtually no plot.
#4 - Classic - It was really long and spent too much time on character introductions, but there were quite a few tear jerkers!
#3 - SMR part 2 - I really like the Akashia (sp?) sisters. And Esmerude.
#2 - Super - Really deep and there was some filler, but a l_i_t_t_l_e something new was revealed every three eps or so.
#1 - Stars - I haven't seen it, but I have a 14 min clip of the last episode and it looks really, really good.

MANGA (I like these in backward order...-_-;)

#5 - First arc - More character intro than anything
#4 - Second arc - The Dimando part was pretty cool, but other than that i thought it was rather monotonus.
#3 - Infiity Arc - It was suspensful, specially tankouben 10
#2 - Dream Arc - Return of the outers! Plus we get to see everyone in princess gowns ^.^
#1 - Stars Arc - I liked the Animamates and Sailor Cosmos. One particular line in the english manga rather shocked my teachers.

Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?

Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....

Well, I haven't seen much of SuperS and it's been a very long time since I watched R so I will only list Classic, S and Stars since I've seen all of Classic and S and most of Stars. I'll list them from favorite to least favorite:

S: It had a really cool and interesting plot, some good filler episodes, the best music, neat villains and it featured my two favorite characters, Hotaru Tomoe and Michiru Kaioh.

Classic: It was really fun and amusing, not to mention it started to get very touching and emotional towards the end of the series and Usagi's character was developed beautifully.

Stars: It's pretty good ... The Neherenia arc is awesome and Yaten is a wicked cool character. However, it seems a bit redundant and reuses too many of the concepts used in the earlier seasons and at times it focuses on the Starlights a bit too much; sometimes their presence feels unnecessary and often they spend too much time on them and not enough on the other sailor soldiers besides Usagi.

One thing I noticed ... you'll hear people say that S is the most popular and well-liked season, but from what I've seen Stars seems a bit more well-liked than S. Most people I ask say that Stars is their favorite season, some say S and a few others say Classic, and very rarely do you see people list R or SuperS as their favorite season.

1. S - A more mature storyline, the Outer Senshi ooze coolness, Rei gets many moments with her psychic visions, ChibiUsa even seems unannoying with her friendship with Hotaru...what's not to love?

2. R (Black Moon arc) - I don't know how to explain it really but the story was cool and it just worked.

3. Classic - It was a bit boring at the beginning, but it picked up a lot later and gave us many classic moments that set the stage for future seasons. And we got many great Rei/Usagi moments.

4. Stars - The Outer Senshi return and continue to ooze coolness, the Starlights were mostly cool, the plot was interesting, and it all ended with a bang. But there wasn't enough Rei.

5. R (Makaiju arc) - Mostly just filler, but most of it was still entertaining, and at least it didn't go on too long.

6. SuperS - Too much filler, not enough of the other senshi, and WAAAY too much ChibiUsa. I didn't mind her as much in earler seasons, but I just couldn't stand her most of the time. I picked up a lot in the end though.

1. Classic: One simple reason - the Four Kings. Also, I love the original plot twists (Nephrite defecting, Mamoru brainwashed) that were actually novel, rather than getting rehashed over and over again later on.

2. Super: Oh man. Haruka = t3h hotness. Michiru too. And the fact that they were willing to sacrifice people for the sake of defeating one of their own - Sailor Saturn/Mistress 9 - was so incredible.

3. R: The Black Moon Arc: Rubeus is too cool, and his death was so spectacular. Lil' Usa somewhat got on my nerves, though, so it got taken down a peg ("A whole peg!")

4. Stars: I liked it, but toooo much focus on the Starlights, and not enough on the outers, whom I found much more interesting. Not bad, though. Galaxia keeps it from getting too far down.

5. The Mokuji/Dark Tree Arc: It was cute, and original, but too short and "filler-like". I would have liked it if it had lasted a bit longer, I suppose.

6. Supers: Not a bad series, but far too comedic for my tastes, and too much focus on Lil' Usa. I've grown to dislike her less over time, but I am of the belief that Usagi should be the focus throughout the series. That's just me, however ;)

When I first posted my season rankings, I hadn't watched SuperS for awhile, and had forgotten how funny Tiger Eye and Hawk Eye can be. Now that I've been watching SuperS recently, it's gone up in my rankings, even though I still think Pegasus should've been a girl. Now I'm not sure how I'd rank the seasons anymore, except to put SailorStars in first place again, but the others, at least at the moment, are tied for 2nd place.

I'm sure Pegasus is there in the future because the past affects the future, right? And wow, we have another Chibiusa obsessee. I have to agree with Michiru though, she's a little too perfect.
As for Chibiusa she's pretty cute in R and S, the constant focus on her can get annoying in SS, and to me in the english dub she's intolerable. Period.

Anime:

S- Not as good as the Infinity Arc in the manga, but the best season, IMHO. There were a lot of episodes with crummy animation and some of the episodes at the end weren't that good, but overall it was good. I love the Outer Senshi, so of course I loved it.

SailorStars- I didn't like how the Starlights were made into guys on earth, but whatever. It was a good comeback after SuperS.

R- I'm a sucker for romance, really. There was just enough of Chibi Usa for her not to drive me crazy. It was lame of Mamoru to break up with Usagi, but oh well.

Classic- I wasn't into it too much, really. It was pretty good I guess.

SuperS-TOO MUCH Chibi-Usa. No Outer Senshi. I wish they would have followed the Dream Arc manga more. I did like how they went more into the Amazon Trio's personalities.

Manga

Infinity Arc- The best of all the seasons and arcs, anime and manga.

Dream Arc-So much better than SuperS. I loved how Mamoru had more focus too.

Classic- Very dramatic.

SailorStars (Is it called that in the manga? I forgot what this arc is called)- Not as good as the anime. Focused a lot on Usagi's emotions, which was not bad, but I wanted to see more of the other senshi. Loved the ending though.

Black Moon Arc- Kind of lame. I think my favorite part was Pluto's death (she looked so pretty and it was really sad).
I am a loser!

Let's see, I'll list them from fav to least fav seasons.

S- It has alot of exiciting plot twists, and Sailor Uranus makes her first apperance, and she's one of my fav Sailor Senshi. I also love the appearance of Sailor Saturn in this season.

Classic-This was the season that started it all, and without it, we wouldn't have the Sailor Moon that we have today. We get introduced to all the Inner Senshi, and then there's the excellent ending. Too bad it gets overused too much in the anime (the ending that is)....

Stars-This season had the best animation of them all. Is it just me, or does the animation quality seem to have dropped when they got to the S season? But, the animation was really at it's best in Stars. Unfortunately, it feels like to me they're re-using alot of old ideas from the previous season in Stars, though I loved the inclusion of the Sailor Starlights, and the more I think about it, the more I like Usagi x Seiya rather than Usagi x Mamoru.

R- I dunno why, but I didn't like this season that much. I guess I felt like there weren't enough new Senshi in this season. I also felt like Sailor Pluto got the short hand of the Garnet Orb in this season. All she did was guard the gate of time, they could've had her fight at least once. R was also the start of the repetive endings (Sailor Moon dying at the end of each season, only to be brought back to life for the next one).

Supers- The worst of the seasons to me. Way too much filler, the fights were too predictable, and too much Chibi-usa.

1. Stars: Awsome fillers, all senshi.

2. S: Awsome. and introduces my fav. senshi! SAILOR SATURN!

3. R: Chibiusa... I don't hate the pinkster. the story isn't my fav... but the series has my second favorite episode!!! NURSE MINAKO-CHAN!!

4. Classic: I like this series, but there isn't enough comedy...

5. SuperS: about what I said about comedy...this is a kind of serious anime... and there is TOO MUCH COMEDY.

ANIME:
1. Classic. This is the first season, the original, the one that started it all. It's got the Dark Kingdom, my favourite villain group, and all the girls are meeting for the first time. Even the fillar doesn't get as tedious as the fillar in later seasons. The episodes in which the Silver Crystal appeared, the pasts were discovered and the two-part season finale still rank up there with 'televison/movies with the most profound affect on my life'. I can't get enough of episode 45.

2. S. S is Sailormoon at its pinnacle. This is where the story they have to tell, of good triumphing over evil comes to a point; this is also where we get our first glimpse of Usagi as a Christ figure. At the ends of Classic and R, she was not afraid to kill the villain; from here on out, she does whatever necessary to make sure that the villain does not die. This is my favourite aspect of Usagi; I also find Haruka and Michiru to be fascinatingly deep characters, and I can completely identify with them and understand their motives.

3. SuperS. OK, laugh at me. I like SuperS. A lot. Chibiusa's coming of age, with her frank maturity (especially visible in the Saori-Kobayashi episode) and unending determination, really allows her to grow from the scared little brat in R and from Usagi's daughter in S, into her very own character. The relationship between her and Elios is very beautiful, and I love the girls' new Super transformations. Despite the lack of Outers, this is still one of my favourite seasons. Even though it's full of tedious fillar, it's funny moments are the funniest of all the series.

4. Stars. I haven't finished watching Stars- I've only seen the first 8 episodes. ^_^;; But, I know the plot, so I think it goes here.

5. R. Just because R is last doesn't mean I don't like it. I love the storyline about the future, and I love Chibiusa, and I even like the alien arc. Some of my favourite fillar episodes- Mecury Moving On, Nurse Minako, the Snow White ep, and the babysitting ep are here. Chibiusa reaching her breaking point when her school is attacked and the relationship between Saffir and Petz are very powerful stuff. I just like the other series better, that's all.

MANGA
1. Infinity. Wow. This is just.... Wow... It's beautiful and powerful and deeply affecting. Haruka and Michiru here are IMHO stronger characters then in the anime, and the senshi play a bigger role in the conclusion.

2. Dream. It's not just the exam battles. Chibiusa/Elios is better here, the girls are more focused on, and the Outers make an appearence. I liked how it tied back to the past, while the anime left the past in Classic with no more mentions.

3. Black Moon Arc. Chibiusa in the manga of this series is much more believable then in the anime. In the anime, she was a sort of whiny little brat, but in the manga, it's clear that she's a little girl forced to grow up much too fast, except she's not growing up at all. We get a deeper look into Crystal Tokyo, and the Makoto-Asanuma dynamic is explored deeper then is her relationship eith Shinozaki in the anime.

4. Stars. This is the end. The back of the Mixx version says 'Sailor Moon is in her darkest hour' and I believe it. Learning about the senshi of other planets, of other solar systems is a wonderful concept for me. I like the Starlights beter here too.

5. Dark Kingdom. This is the beginning of the series, but it seems to move too quickly for me. The other series moved fast and were full of plot, but I think DK needed to take its time. The conclusion is hectic and confusing- the anime is much better.

Stars: *_* Yum. Just..Yum.
S: The outers. Hotaru. Mistress 9. Professor Tomoe. Need I say more?
R: I haven't seen it subbed yet, but I love the plot.
Classic: The beginning. and usagi is so damned cute.
SuperS: I do love SuperS, but if I had to pick one,it's this one. Il ove the humor, but the plot is kinda blah.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Manga-

Infinity- Everything was so wonderful about this arc. I like the fact Prof Tomoe was actually evil and the purpose the Witches 5 had (to become magi) And of course the introduction of Haruka and Michiru, and the return of a happier Sestuna. Sailor Saturn using Death Reborn Revolution was awesome.

Dream- the way the inner senshi gained their upgraded powers was good. I enjoyed the battle exams too except for Ami's. The history behind the Golden Crystal, Nehelenia and Queen Serenity, as well as the Amazones Quartet were all good. I also enjoyed the outers, as well as Usagi and Chibi-Usa. The age switch was funny with those last two.

Black Moon- I love this because Chibi-Usa is less obnoxious than the R season in the anime version. I like Chibi-Usa in the anime too but the way she dealt with being away from home was done better. Usagi also shows more maturity in this arc. And of course Pluto is introduced. My fave character!! And she's way more "important" than her anime counterpart here.

Stars- It was good but too short. It seemed to move faster than the other seasons. However it did a better job than the anime explaining the meaning of being a Sailor Senshi, etc. I also like how Kakyuu is a senshi herself. And the ending was fantastic

Dark Kingdom- I think I like this about the same as Stars. I like Beryl a lot more in this. And Metallia does more on her own. The story of the past is more interesting than the anime. I don't like Stars and this arc much less than the other three to tell you the truth.

Anime-

Stars- I like this season because it explains the purpose of Sailor Senshi and the plot. Galaxia is the coolest villain in any of the seasons. And all the senshi are in it. The last episodes are so memorable. I like this slightly more than S.

S- This used to definitely my favorite anime season but I watched it too many times ^^;. my favorite things about this season is how the plot keeps moving and the plot itself. The villains are awersome. Of course I also like the introduction of the outers, and the BGM is excellent too

R- I like a lot of the Black Moon villains in this season and the future's story. I wish Pluto was in it more like the manga though. And we first meet Chibi-Usa here, that's a good thing to me, although she got annoying at times. You see how she grows from this season to SuperS. I also love the last episode of this season (not the promo to S!) However the Makaiju arc was my least favorite part of the entire anime series.

Classic- This is how it all begins and it has many memorable episodes. Especially the last two, probably the best ending out of all the seasons. I'm not too fond of any villains in this one except for Kunzite. You can also see a pretty big difference between how Usagi is here and how she is by Stars.

SuperS- I didn't care too much for the first half. I also disliked the absence of the outers, the main plot moved slower, and how Usagi and Chibi-Usa were overly focused on. (even though I DO like them, I wanted to see more of the inners especially Rei) However it gets better later on...the Quartet, Helios, and Nehelenia are wonderful, second best BGM, and there's plenty of humor. I also love the actual ending, which is at the beginning of Stars.

4. R - both parts had an ok story line

*wipes off dust*Old thread,I know,but I'll post a reply anyway.

This is Shortcake-chan with a new username for the new board(sort of). Most people probably don't remember me,but...oh,I'll just get to the point.

My favorite season is Classic, with R as a close second. Both seasons are absolute brilliance in my opinion, but to be honest,I don't really like the last three seasons. They're pretty good as stand-alone seasons, but I must be the only one who thinks Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon would have been a lot better off as just a two-season story.Classic and R were good enough;they didn't need to make anymore.I know how most people love the other three seasons because of the Outers and the Starlights and whatnot, but after so many tearjerkers and so much realistic suffering in the previous two seasons, the ending of R wrapped it all up nicely. The Moon Kingdom was avenged for,Crystal Tokyo was saved, and Usagi and Mamoru could live and love together at last after all the conflicts that had kept them apart.

And then, only a week later in Japan of the year 1994,there's MORE. :x

God,how frustrating and unnecessary!!Every single bit of realism and emotional genius in the last two seasons had been completely ruined because the story just HAD to be continued. The fans' mouths just HAD to be fed because they were starving for more. The ratings were so high there just HAD to more episodes.I don't mean to rant this much, but it's how I truly feel about Sailor Moon, and even though I DO like the other three seasons somewhat when I think of them as totally seperate stories,I will always hold a candle only to Classic and R.

Anime:

#6- R (part 1): Although I'm not counting the Nehelenia arc as a separate season, this is, because it doesn't affect the Black Moon storyline (which the Nehelenia story did to the main Stars storyline). This arc was really boring, it was hell sitting through it. I do like En, and the last two episodes were pretty good, but that's about it.

#5- SuperS: I don't hate it,i fact I like it a lot. I just missed the drama that other seasons had. The last episodes were mostly good, but I don't think there was enough story there to stretch the season out to such a length. I also dislike the fact that they reused a lot of music from the S movie.

#4- SailorStars: GRRAR! This season is even more frustrating than SuperS. They dwelled so far from Naoko's story, which I think was better. I also hate the Three Lights.

#3- R (part 2): Mamo-chan drama, cool villains, and a freaky ball that looks like Luna.

#2- Classic: Kunzite-sama....mm, mm, good. Queen Beryl's bitchin' too.

#1- S: I don't like S for the typical resons given. One of the main reasons I like it is the second episode. Those kitties are just so damn cute.

Manga:

#5- Black Moon Arc: Extremely boring.

#4- Dark Kingdom Arc: Just as boring as the Black Moon Arc at times, but it did have some good moments.

#3- Infinity Arc: It had a very good plot, and was very well presented. It's definitely a page-turner. However I enjoy more... leisurely manga. It was just a bit too dark (for Sailor Moon I mean) to read over and over again. Just my personal preference.

#2- Stars: "Compelling" sums it up. I love Usagi, and by the second volume I couldn't put it down. But like Infinity, it's just lacking the fun stuff.

#1- Dream Arc: I love love love this story. It's fun and adventurous, and at the same time dramatic. Chibusa and Usagi have a much better relationship in the manga, and Chibi Moon actually gets her own chibi-wand!

..o_O; um, the story continued in the manga, too. Toei didn't just pull the episodes out of their asses. It came from Naoko's storyline. So I really don't see where your rant lies...the episodes didn't just..appear.

Aside from Tiff's very valid point that the anime continued because the manga continued, personally I saw much more realism and emotional genius in S and Stars than in R. In fact, R is my least favourite season... there's too much filler in the form of the Makaiju arc, and while lots of it was extremely good, overall I didn't think the plot was as strong as in any of the other seasons (except mayber SuperS, but that made up for it with tons of comedy).

Yes,I know Toei didn't just pull the last three seasons out of their asses, but from what I've heard(and not just in the SMU Series section),the Sailor Moon manga was supposed to end after the Black Moon arc,as was the anime. The anime had become such a smash hit, though, that Toei had to persuade Ms.Takeuchi to continue her story so there'd be more adventures for all those starving fans.

But hey,I could be wrong.

Off-topic: Welcome to the forums Rindesayu! Winter Haven? I live in Deltona!

On-topic: I've heard that it was supposed to end after R and I've also heard after S. I wonder where this information came from.
