Personally, I appreciate the fact that there are people who dislike anime. It helps create a diversity and balance of opinions. It would be boring if EVERYONE was into anime. Aside from that, I believe they have a right to not like anime and not want to watch it. However, I do think it's wrong for them to insult others who are interested in Sailor Moon or other anime. It is their right to dislike anime, but they should still try to respect the opinions of others who do enjoy it.

And I agree. Not everyone should be anime fans. But I wonder if there are some people out there who still have a racial prejudice against the Japanese. Since they don't want to actually say it, maybe they transfer it to the cartoons instead of the people?

I actually used to be prejudiced against anime when I was 12 or so until I saw Pokemon. It was because I saw Barefoot Gen in my 7th grade class and got so scared of it that I started associating ALL anime with it.

So, yes, not everyone has to like anime. I was responding to the comment of "Why? It's just a love story" with "well, some people don't like anime in general." I didn't say it was wrong for people to dislike anime.

Or does your stepmother not like the short skirts on the girls? (just a possible guess...I'm curious as to why she hates it)

Heh. I find that around where I live, the dubbed version aired awhile back, and made most people hate it. A few years later, I get the subs, and everyone can't believe I have Sailor Moon now. What I tell them is to not judge it before seeing it, and that the dubbed has been butchered beyond belief. Then I tell them that I like it, and most people leave me alone after that. Maybe they want to stay away from the crazy man, or maybe they respect my opinion, which is the case most of the time, I think. Most people that know me know respect me for who I am. So, if they're interested, they wanna know more, and if not, ignore the fact that I like Sailor Moon.

Huh? An argument? That's just something I've been wondering about for a while. I don't know if it's true or not, and I could be wrong about there being latent prejudice against the Japanese.

Believe me, Tiff, it's not a topic I'm sensitive about, since it has nothing to do with me personally.

By the way, one of the silliest things I've heard from an anti-Sailor Moon person was "Sailor Moon is gay!" Okay, I know that's a slang term, but it sounds funny to me because it sounds like she's calling USAGI gay, which is way off the mark except in some people's OOC fanfiction.

.... "Tuxedo Mask is gay and raped all of her friends" ....
Am I the only one that finds something terriaby wrong with that? Wouldn't Tuxedo Mask rape Motokai or something? O_o

ANYWAY.
My brother has no room to rag on me over Sailormoon. He watched it before I did, then my sister and I got addicted. Then he stopped watching it like it wasn't cool anymore. My mom watches Sailormoon if she's in the mood for it and my Dad just picks on my for watching it. I was watching a SMR tape and she was doing her attack [Moon Scepter Elimination], and out of no where I hear, "Point and shoot the damn thing". XD; I thought I was going to die.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I have the same problem. My entire family is sick of Sailor Moon. I'm not even allowed to watch it when my parents are home or I'll get grounded.

My brother also says stuff about Sailor Moon too. like "Sailor Moon sucks" "No body likes sailor moon" "Mamoru is a pimp" {I laughed at that one}. But he doesn't say anything negative about Sailor moon anymore because usually, when he does I just say "Your right.... Yes, Sailor Moon does suck. Yes, nobody likes Sailor Moon. Remember, I'm nobody" and he stopped cuz he knew he couldn't win

o_O; I really don't understand why some of your families are so strict, people. Why on earth would a parent go as far as to ground you for watching a harmless TV show? It's ludicrous.

Something similar happend to me before too. I was watching SMS on DVD, and then my mom discovered that Harkura and Michiru weren't cousins, but lesibian lovers. So then, she started screaming about it saying God doesn't like homosexuality, because it's demongraphic and all that crap. So I can't buy anymore SM products for know.

::hugs:: I'm sorry for you and all the other people with strict parents that refuse to let them watch or buy Sailor Moon. They really should loosen up a bit.

Oh, I'm sorry I misinterpreted you.

Hmm, "demongraphic?" Is that the word she used? Sounds like a new word...appropriate to use when one thinks a graphic, like Sailor Moon, is evil!

I have the same problem with the anime I watch. I am planning to buy a TV for my room so I can watch my anime in peace. Without opinions by people the have no taste. I'd rather aviod confilct with my family if I can. Simply 'cause I've grown sick of wasting my energy winning all the arguments.

I can't wait until (one day) I move out and enjoy all the anime I want. It's getting tiring hearing everyone except me and my little siblings in my house hating anything Japanese animated not dubbed into English.

I'm still allowed to buy Sailor Moon stuff and shit... They just made this rule because they found out I became "like Haruka and Michiru" if you guys know what I mean. I usually just watch SM up in my sound-proof room x.x

Umm.. if you won the arguments, then your parents wouldn't care. You'd have convinced them that it's not bad.

I feel sorry for everyone whose parents are like that. It seems stupid to be that against it that you'd punish your kids for watching it. My parents don't like it, but they don't punish me for it.

It's not what they say, but their actions. A sigh of disgust, a rude sneer, stuff like this. That's the problem I'm having now, hence my need for a tv for my semi-clean room.
