who will Get SailorStars?

Post by Dragon_King » Wed Jan 14, 2004 3:56 pm

It's a Battle royle for Sailor Moon Sailor Stars Disney vs DIC for the right to show SailorStars in The U.S, and it looks like Toei is looking at Disney. who do you think should get Stars?

Neither. DiC has no interest in Sailor Moon anymore with their contract to lapse this spring (if I remember correctly) as well as failure to pick up anything besides the first two seasons. Disney, I don't know where you got that idea from. Their only previous involvement in Sailor Moon was having Buena Vista release some episodes on VHS years ago back when Disney owned DiC. Today, Disney seems to be breaking away from any types of animation with various decisions and such (which would be better to discussed on a differeent topic), so I seroiusly doubt either of these two companies would even want the rights. I would like to see what kind of info you have to prove me wrong since it makes no sense.

Two companies that would be better sense would be Geneon and ADV. Geneon has already released the movies as well as seasons three and four, doing a pretty good job to boot. They know how badly fans want the series, and that most of the fans would buy it without a dub track. Then there's ADV, who has a partnership with DiC, who released the DiC SM dubs on VHS and DVD, and released those seasons uncut as well. They've declared their interest in the series, especially if their uncut boxes sold well. However, due towards the massive negative feedback on their work with the uncut boxes, I think they probably don't want to touch the franchise any more than they already have, however that's only an assumption and it's possible they're still in the fight.

I think that Geneon should get Stars. They have experience in releasing Sailor Moon, and did a good job for the most part with good fan response. I don't think ADV should get Stars, because their releases show they're not willing to treat it well. I think a few other anime companies could do a good release on Stars. Funimation comes to mind with their good work on almost everything, especially with their work on another shoujo, Fruits Basket. And there's also Media Blasters, with their great work especially on the hit shoujo series Magic Knight Rayearth.

DiC lost their rights to dub Sailor Moon S, so what makes you think they will try for Sailor Stars in the first place? Gah, I posted the same time Dan-sama posted. I think he pretty much covered everything. ^^;;

You can't buy something from someone if it's "right under their noses." That phrase refers to stealing something. If someone buys something from someone else, then he/she will know about it.

Also, is this a hypothetical question, or have you really heard that DiC and Disney are both wanting Stars? If it's hypothetical, then I'd rather every last copy of SailorStars, including the masters, be destroyed than let either of those companies touch it. If it's for real, then please tell me where you got the information from.

Yes, but it's an old saying that refers to something being taken as in stealing, not taken as in bought. It refers to stealing something from someone very obviously. But, whatever, this conversation is off-topic anyway, so let's just drop it.

*edits again* Seeing a response, I edited out paragragh again. Ah, the joys of slow typing...

Anyway, what is the link? There are so many websites on Geocities pertaining to Castle In The Sky, so that really doesn't help much.

The Castle in the Sky Web site on Geocities
1)They haven't said anything about Sailor Stars in a long time and certainly nothing about DiC vs. Disney. 2) They aren't an official news site.

I think most fans of Stars will probably want it to remain unlicensed.. ^^;

After all, if Geneon gets it, they'll release it only 6 episodes at a time, with huge delays with the DVDs like they did with the SuperS season, probably. If ADV gets it, they'll try to release it all at once in one box set, with less-than-good results. There's a chance that some other anime company can get it (like TokyoPop?), but it's highly doubtful.

I don't think Disney would want Sailor Stars.

If somebody got or wanted Sailor Stars for the USA , it would be all over the internet.

I haven't heard anything about DiC or Disney wanting to dub Sailorstars. What I have heard from various sources, though, is that Cloverway wants to dub Sailorstars and is attempting to license it but Toei refuses to let them have it for some reason or another. I'm not entirely sure if this is true, however Jackie from the SSP reported it a long time ago and she doesn't *seem* to be the type of person who would make something like that up. A reason I've heard for why Toei won't allow CWI to have Sailorstars is because they're afraid it would give SM in America a bad name due to the Starlights gender-changing, but it just seems like all CWI would have to do is make something up like the Starlights call upon their twin sisters to help them fight or something. Some fans have speculated that Toei and Naoko Takeuchi disliked the anime version of Stars and thus doesn't want CWI to have it, similar to the case with episode 67.

I don't think Toei will ever let a North American company buy Sailor Stars. It's not even shown on TV in Japan anymore. Naoko I guess didn't like it, and neither did Toei. It's too bad, because I haven't seen all of it and really want to. Other than the weirdness of the Starlights being male, it was really good.

Only 6 episodes a disc? As opposed to, say, the three episodes per disc of the average Japanese release, or the four of the average American release? Honestly, my S DVDs have more episodes per disc than anything else in my collection...

I still say Toei really doesn't give a damn about the American audience of their shows...
