Occasionally, Usagi (and only Usagi) will call some of the Senshi "Planet-chan" - in the episode of S with Asai, when Venus was fighting the daimon alone, Usagi ran up, and seeing her said "Venus-chan!" and then transformed. But she doesn't do it while transformed. I don't think they use honorifics while transformed, because they don't want to hint at their identities. Sure tons of people call each other "-chan" but it's still a precaution.
"Come on, you can do better than that!"- Famous last words.
No need to have a smart-ass undertone. I didn't remember that, okay? I still think "Sailor Moon-chan" would sound stupid.Dinozore wrote:I remember Metallia being called "Queen Metallia-sama", isn't that basically adding an honorific onto a title?Tiff wrote:o_O; Wouldn't Sailor Moon-san or Sailor Moon-chan be...kind of inaccurate? Ok, about the honorifics thing. Let's look at this logically (instead of thinking really hard and trying to find cultural significance).
When the senshi are fighting, they usually use the titles "Sailor" in front of their names. So you end up with "Seeraa muun" or "seeraa juupitaa" or something to that end. The names are already elongated (thus the double vowels) and strung out to begin with. Now you want to add an honorific onto it? By the time they spit out a full name + an honorific they'll be splattered against the wall. It's just much easier to say just "Sailor Moon" or "Sailor Jupiter" and get on with it. Plus, they're all close, so I don't think any of them will be particularly offended that a honorific WASN'T used.
As for "Venus-chan". Pay close attention to two things. First, the "Seeraa" was dropped. So spitting out "Venus-chan" isn't that difficult. Plus notice who's saying it. As far as I can tell, the ONLY person who adds the honorific is Usagi. Saying just "Sailor Moon" or whatever their name is sounds a bit more formal-super-hero-type-get down to busineess thing. But when Usagi says it, it almost sounds cutesy and a bit childish. Coming from Usagi, this makes perfect sense.
Now, as for "Queen Metallia-sama". You freaking NEED the sama there no matter if you call her Queen Metallia or just Metallia. In Japanese, it's not redundant. Calling her Metallia-hime-sama on the other hand might be a bit redundant. But since "Queen" is in English, not having any Japanese honorific like sama there would be considered..........kill worthy. Metallia/beryl/nehelenia/galaxia would kill their subordinate so fast if they didn't use Sama it wouldn't even be funny. It'd just be really disrespectful.
*nods nods*

Ohh, I have a couple.
Usagi's star seed looks exactly like the ginzuishou in the Sailor Moon R movie.
Not sure if this is the place to type this, but it jumped out at me today while going through the Sailor Moon series, in episdode 15 while Rei is asking Motoki questions about Mamoru, Motoki tells her he is a rich man's heir, but I don't think that is the case, no one ever mentions anything like that when Mamoru reveal's his past.

I have one, a silly error:
I was listening to my Sailor Moon music today, and it came to the Full Moon Collection's 7th track, "Moon Crystal Power". I listened to it and noticed that that BGM is infact NOT from the Crystal Power henshin, but from the Prism Power henshin (Crystal Power BGM is shorter than the Prism Power BGM)

Her Star Seed is the Ginzishou, but I think she was referring to how normally the crystal looks just like the crystal (triangular in a way if you will...I can't describe shapes...) and when it's stolen it looks like the flowery-ginzishou, which is almost a one-time thing ^_^ I think it was only in the 4th manga, R movie, and SailorStars. Hey, there's another thing I noticed! Unless my memory's really bad.Silver Serenity wrote:I'm pretty sure Usagi's star seed is the ginzuishou. ^_^ If I'm wrong though I apologize.usachan wrote:Ohh, I have a couple.

Me: This is coming from the kid who doesn't know what Viagra is!
Ko: It's cold medicine, right?
Our Group: NO!!!
Me: Can I just say?
Dylan: Sure, it's no weirder than what normally comes out of your mouth.
Me: (says what)
Ko: .....What's that?
Me: ......*starts crying*
Carley: STEVE! STEVE GET OVER HERE AND TELL KO WHAT VIAGRA DOES!
Steve: See, it's like this: The bridge goes up and the soldiers rush out....
Tiff: Aww, you killed someone for me. That's so sweet in a f***ed up sort of way!
Sorry if this was mentioned before:
- In the episode "Usagi is Thrilled! Tuxedo Mask's Love Letter" when Sailor Moon, Mercury, Mars, Naru (unconscious) and Tuxedo Mask are up on the roof (after the elevator), Mars and Moon are fighting, Mercury tells Mars not to fight, but then Mars blows Mercury's identity when she says "Not you too, Ami! You're going to side with Sailor Moon?!" =P

This seemed like the place to put this to me. Having just recieved my Sailor Moon R music collection today, which I have thoroughly enjoyed, listening to it for the third time
I noticed one of the pieces in track 2 (Makajiu) the one based off Ail's flute music, is exaclty the same as "Seihai, Kyuuseishu . . . Shinpi naru Sekai" part 1. This is a BGM in Sailor Moon S, it's used when Hotaru changes to Mistress Nine, I thought that piece sounded like Ail's flute music.
I guess they reuse tunes all the time. Did anyone notice that the 'waltz' that Prof. Tomoe claims to have composed in an episode of S (I think the one where Usagi goes to the English-speaking party and gets completely smashed, but I might be wrong) is the very same terribly dramatic BGM that plays in episode 34 when Usagi and Mamoru are attacked by Zoicite in the elevator? It was one of those 'hey... I know that music... but where from?...' moments.

In Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, one of Usagi's friends was named "Momoko", which if I'm not mistaken was the name of one of Chibi-usa's friends in the anime.

Ya, lol, they do that a lot. But most of the stuff on the S mucic collection is new, just not that one. But they do reuse stuff from previous seasons all the time, like in episode 115, when Mimet is singing karaoke, it is actually "I am Sailor Moon" from "Mirai he Mukatte". Sometimes they'll release a song on a cd, and won't even include it in the show for a few seasons, I've noticed that recently.Strawbaby wrote:I guess they reuse tunes all the time. Something I noticed yesterday is that in the first episode of Sailor Stars in the scene where the Sailor Senshi are at the park all looking up at the shooting stars, is it just me or does it look like the bottom part of Minako's hair got cut off? Of course, it could look like that because of the direction she's facing, but it still looks kind of odd to me.

Speaking of Stars: I noticed that the Nehelania arc is *remarkably* similar to the fairy tale "The Snow Queen," by Hans Christian Anderson, in which a goblin makes a mirror that distorts beautiful stuff, but it breaks, and little peices go flying all over. One get's stuck in a boy named Kay's eye (and heart), and he is kidnapped by the Snow Queen and his best friend Gerda must go rescue him. Along the way, Gerda gets delayed by an old woman with a beautiful garden and forgets her quest until she sees a red rose. She frees Kay by weeping and thawing his heart, which makes *him* weep, and the glass splinter in his eye falls out. It's one of my favorite fairy tales.

Wow, Crazydiamond, thank you for posting that!! O_O I never noticed that. I read that story a long time ago and never made the connection. I wonder if that's where they got the idea.

Weird, I never noticed that. Is it just me, or does the Nehelania arc. in SuperS seem somehwhat like Snow White? You know, how she's vein, and she's always looking in the mirror, especially at the end, when she goes up stairs and gets older and older, that's similar to how the Wicked Queen dies in Snow White, not in the Disney version of course.

*nitpick* The Wicked Queen didn't grow older and die. She had iron shoes that had been heated on coals placed on her feet. At least, that's in the original Grimm Brother's tale. */nitpick*usachan wrote:Weird, I never noticed that. Is it just me, or does the Nehelania arc. in SuperS seem somehwhat like Snow White? And as for that whole arc, I'm fairly certain that it's supposed to be the story of the Snow Queen. It won't be the first time Toei has used a Fairy Tale in their show.
