Usagi's strength

Post by Arius » Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:22 am

IMO, Usagi is not weak. She is stronger than most people. The anime didn’t do her character justice but she is far from weak and a cry baby (yes, I realize she cries a lot during the series). But they it indirectly show her strength.

In the beginning she did cry for no reason but as the Classic arc went on, she cried because she lost her friends, one by one. Which is worse, losing your friends all at once or having them being picked off one by one? Personally, having them being picked off one by one would be worse; the mental wound is fresh and can be picked at for more pain. Then to top it off, she loses the one she idols over and loves. That’s crueler than anything I can imagine. your love one to dying right in front of you and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s why Sailor Cosmos wanted to tell her past self to fix something or else she will end up with nothing and no will to live anymore(I do not if that’s how the original went, but I’m relying on the Tokyopop translation).

In R, now I don’t remember much about this one (neither the DiC adaptation nor Toei) but at 1st she’s sad that Mamoru doesn’t remember their relationship other than the occasional banter exchange. I am a bit empathetic so I can imagine the pain of how it feels to be forgotten by someone you love. Then to be told that he doesn’t love her anymore, that has to cut deep. How would you like being told that someone, whom you love with your whole heart, says they don’t love you and want nothing to do with you? Then to add insult to injury they say they don’t love you because you’re weak; Usagi is anything but weak, most would just give up after what she has been through.

There isn’t much to go on through S and SuperS about her but in Stars, her strength shines through. She went the whole arc without telling anyone that she hasn’t received a letter from Mamoru or any form of contact since he left to the states; yet she still wrote and wrote. I would have been devastated had I not received any form of contact from my lover (if I had one.) Granted, Seiya tried to comfort her when she finally broke down and couldn’t take it anymore but she still had eyes for Mamoru.

In the final episode, We see her true strength; she does not fight Sailor Galaxia. Now this is a bit odd, but it takes more strength to put a gun down then it does to shoot it at someone and end their life. She never once struck Galaxia, even after she took all her friends away. She mostly rose her sword in defense. Now the scene where Chaos/Galaxia is stabbed is a bit hard to describe as you don’t see it happen. Even though the light of hope/ Chibichibi said that it was futile to save Galaxia, Usagi still saved her and managed to draw out the Chaos from her body and return her to her normal self.

In reality, Usagi isn’t weak, to go through what she did and still live and laugh like her takes strength; Strength that many of us lack within ourselves.

My major beef with the anime version of Usagi is that they didnt really allow her to grow. I didnt mind the whole healing the enemy thing or the whole love conquers all attitude, it was even towards the end of the series the lack of respect for her as Sailor moon in my opinion. How people still acted as if she could not handle herself and it bugged me.

I didnt mind the crying in stars id cry to if people who were like my family were killed off one by one. I mean they did all live two lifetimes together. But to me the villians and even some of her own fellow soliders didnt give her the amount of respect I felt she deserved.

And in the Anime Luna was abit more critical of her even towards the later series. And im sorry after the Dream arc series in the anime when she risked her life and limb to save Saturn that whole fight to prove if she was worthy to be future Queen annoyed the hell out of me. I dont care if she did give over the sacred chalice she did it to save a life.

I agree with you Arius Usagi is one of the most strongest characters, she went from being a normal girl to having a whole new life thrusted on her at 14. I dont know any one that young who could assume all that responsibility and not feel overwhelmed.
"Have you been half asleep? And have youve heard voices?
I hear them calling my name."
Is this the sweet sound, that calls the young sailors?
The voice maybe one in the same.
Ive heard it too many times to ignore it,
its something that I sposed to be..
Someday we''''ll find it, the rainbow connection
The lover, the dreamer, and me..."

*Being a bad girl is such hard work....

Mostly what happened was (epically with the Dubs), they went Usagi/Serena Bash happy and made her look like a air headed idiot. and weak. i posted this rant/essay because i saw an AMV that inspired me and showed some of her strength.

i originally wanted to post this in the opinions section but Tiffu is busy with her life right now and this would end in the virtual garbage can. and I'm open to responses of any kind.

one of my biggest pet peeves about Sailor Moon is how the whole cast of characters in the show to one degree to another treat Sailor Moon like she completely incompentent and stupid. ANd I thinks its unforgivable how Luna barely had confidance in her abilites. Usagi wasn't that fucking stupid and yet when there here times when she genuanly didn't know some thing all the other characters made it seem like she was the most ignorant person in the world.

I think its because of her personality that villan and even her fellow friends tended to under estimate her. I think because she was mostly innocent and sweet and pure hearted that everyone saw that as weakness, so thats why they acted toward her the way they do.

Actually I thought that it was an interesting twist that Sailor Moon had to battle Sailor Uranus and Neptune to get across to them that she had every right to rule as Queen. They didn't respect her and thought she was weak so I think that was the only way to get them to respect her. Plus it was sweet to see these two finnaly get put there place. Even though i liked them I thought the way they stuck up their nose at the inner Sailors was a bit excessive and they needed to be humbled.
