Ideas for creating a sailor moon modded game

Post by Senshi_of_Vision » Fri Apr 27, 2007 8:42 pm

My friend has been trying to talk me into this, we both have the software programs for making games and hes basically been tutoring me on how to code. I was thinking about a try at a sailormoon game but I wouldnt be sure what to do with it. Im leaning towards rpg cause I love that style game. But the first and second season has basically been done in another world and I am not sure my skills could bring supers and stars to life. I dunno I just figured id put this hear to see if anyone had any ideas for any kind of modded game they would like to see made. Maybe something will help me brainstorm. Cause my buds ideas didnt really grab me and I dont think id bother with a sailormoon mud, id like to use my rpg making tools if I can.

So if anyone has any ideas theyd like to see in a created game let me know. And of course this would not be for profit and im still not sure I can even do this cause of copyright stuff but if I can I would like to try just at a loss on what to attempt.

I have an idea! You can try like a Sailor Moon fighting game. Like in old-school 2D.

I always thought it would be cool to see a Sailor Moon fighting game in the style of Marvel vs. Capcom, and X-men vs. Street Fighter, etc. They're special could be their attacks.

That would be so cool to see like Sailor Mercury kickin and punchin, then when u fill the super bar and press random buttons she'll do Shine Aqua Illusion or her Mercury Aqua Rhapsody. And it would be all flashy and colorful. The same wit the other senshi too. Of course Sailor Moon would kick everyone's ass wit her Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss.

Well theres one idea...lol

That actually reminds of a very old (ancient in game terms) game of Power Rangers that was like that. As for the copyright, you have a lot less to worry about than those who have the episodes up for download. Plus, unoffical game mods are done all the time without the bat of an eyelash from the big, greedy EA company. So go for it.

I can only give you my personal opinion on this particular situation and the reasons why I haven't locked it (yet).

If she's getting ideas for a game, no. There isn't a rule against getting help as it's been done in the past ( "I need some help/ideas with this or that" - none of them have been locked that I'm aware of). She's asking Sailormoon fans what type of story they'd be interested in playing if someone were to develop a Sailormoon-based game. Something that would give her some ideas because she wants a story that would interest her.

If she's presenting a link and promoting her work, yes. That would be against the "promotion" rule, but she has made no advertisements or promotions what-so ever. If she were to say, "Hey guys. I'm making Sailormoon games. If you want me to make one for you then let me know and I'll do it" (Similar to "tell me what you want and I'll draw/write it" that we've had to put our foot down over in the past) then that would also be considered promotion. If she were asking for critiques or beta-testers that would also be considered promotion.

Of course this is my interpretation of the this situation. The other mods may see thing differently and choose to take a different choice of action. They are welcome to do so with no objections from me.

>_> If I sound snippy I apologize. Don't mean to. Just trying to lay this out.

And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

Thanks for your input Tempest and nope you dont sound snippy to me. And you are right I was just asking for ideas on what other fans of the series would like to see created. I am still on the fence on whether id even attempt this because game creating isnt easy. And Ive read the rules I know better then to advertise on here just needed help with some light creative block.

As for the game its not even in a stage yet cause im still trying to fret out ideas. Now I like the sound of a 2d fighter game, but ive had so many people throw ideas at me that have no clue about the series thats why I came here to ask actual fans who have watched the anime and or read the manga.

My one friend suggestion of a mud really made my head hurt because to me it doesnt seem possible to work out properly. I mean to make a senshi shouldnt be that hard. But coding events, enemies and having to actually keep an eye on a game like that would be a pain. And I dont have time to run a mud anyway so I gave him a big no to that.

so back on subject yeah just seeing what people here would play and get some general ideas if I want to attempt creating my own modded game. And Im not sure myself on the legalities of it since im seeing some that say its not so bad and others say its illegal, the game if it was made would not be for profit like most modded games. I play several including ones that add on to already popular pc games and as long as a profit is not being made I dont think the game companies are going to throw the book at me.

Well, I don't know of any mods that were or are being made where people give money (even donations) to that project.

And even though, technically, using the name and characters is illegal, you aren't recieving money for it. In face, a lot of people make mods based off of the stories and characters of franchises from writing fan fiction to creating games. This arguement has gone through the heads of many and the numerous forums and emails of fans (in general), and it really boils down to the fact that gaming and other such companies aren't going to waste much more on the way of resources than a simple cease and desist email telling you to stop. Further, I don't see the copyright holders (in general) viewing this in a bad light as it helps to keep a franchise that is at the very least on hiatus from dieing out.

And that is all I will say on the topic. Happy modding or not.

I was thinking along those lines to because of the modded communities I am apart of and the games I play. None of them ask for money and they continue to make great games for people to play free.

And I was thinking more on Johnathans idea as well Marvel vs Capcom happens to be one of my favorite games.

But if I did start a project like that id probably have to inlist a few of my friends who go to school for this stuff because I am very new to all of this. Im being walked threw alot and having a good friend hold my hand threw it and I was thinking if I ever did take it up it would be nice to make a game about the series that ive loved for many years now. Its just finding something that i wouldnt get bored playing with after a day or two lol.

Technically, yes. But the only one who'd care is Naoko. Unless this project becomes really popular, I don't see this getting foxed.

this is a grey area. AGDI(the people who remade KIngs quest I & II) used Serria copyright characters in their remakes. though int he same boat, the Phoneix team allmost got canned by serria for using the copyright title. its just confusing. as for the marval vs. capcom, i think MUGEN is what you may want (Though its techinally illegal since they haven't touched the engin for years)
