Remaking Sailor Moon - What would you do?

Post by Aya Reiko » Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:03 am

With some series being remade (i.e. A!MG & Kanon), what if Sailor Moon were to be remade? What cast, staff, and/or studio would you use?

The rules:

1. You must use people currently active in the industry. I'd say having at least one signifigant role in an anime series or movie within the last 2 years should be good enough of a window.

2. Among the original cast members still active in the industry today (such as Aya Hisakawa), you cannot cast them in their original roles.

3. In the same vein as Rule 2, you cannot choose Toei as the production studio. (You don't necessarily have to choose one, you just can't pick Toei if you do.)

4. Develop the cast for Classic season only.

Some of my picks-

Cast:
Sailormoon/Usagi - Mai Nakahara
Sailorvenus/Minako - Rie Tanaka
Luna - Ai Shimizu
Artemis - Akira Ishida
Tuxedo Mask - Tomokazu Sugita
Haruna-sensei - Aya Hisakawa
Queen Beryl - Ryoka Yuzuki

Production Studio:
Kyoto Animation

I'll add more later and revise the above as I think of people who seem like a good choice to fill one of the roles.

(If you don't know who they are, wiki it.)
You seem like the kind of person who'll lie.
However... this sword doesn't lie.

Ouch. Those rules are kinda harsh... I'm gonna make two, realistic and non-realistic....

(But that's mainly because I don't watch anime so I don't know anyone outside of Megumi Hayashibara and Mitsuishi Kotono...)

*Will do this later... school now...*

Obviously Sailormoon was awesome as it was and I would keep all the original cast and crew, but it would be nice to see the animation re-newed and to have awesome new transformation sequences.

I would like to see it recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1 and have about 2 attacks per Sailor Senshi upgrade, then be able to become eternal Sailor Senshi and use all their previous attacks if needed.

That would be impossible as two of the original cast members are dead and at least one has retired from the business.

Actually, as far as I know, only two are still active, Aya Hisakawa and Kotono Mitsuishi. The rest, if they didn't fade into obscurity, probably have retired by now. (Voice Acting in Japan is one brutal business.)

Eh, I find that hard to believe. Just because they haven't had any roles recently, doesn't mean they've retired. I know seiyuu that are still active from the 70's. (Nephrite's seiyuu for example)

Not to mention Keiko Han is still working (she just voiced Luna in PGSM), and Emi Shinohara is still doing roles (Angel in Big O, has a role in FMP! Second Raid).

And the other seiyuu are pretty well known and popular (Megumi Ogata, etc.) I doubt they've faded into obscurity.

EDIT: Alright, - I do believe Michie Tomizawa DID retire. My mistake.

It was a generalization... sort of. I skimmed through some of the other cast members and tried to assess how active they in the business they are... were... are. That, and most VAs are extremely lucky if they remain in the business for ten years. The pay an average VA earns is really, really bad, and Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities to live in. So most burn out really, really quick. (I'm guessing this is the real reason Sakura Tange quit the business not long after CCS wrapped up.)

Oh, and the series just happens to be over ten years old.
