Which song?

Post by usachan » Mon Aug 21, 2006 2:19 pm

So, out of the two opening songs, which one does everyone prefer?

Moonlight Densetsu

or

The Sailor Stars Theme

Personally I really prefer Sailor Stars! It's lot more fun an upbeat, and also the song seems to have a lot more feeling. Not that I don't love Moonlight Densetsu, but perhaps DIC's mangaled version of the song makes me love it less...

What are everyone else's thoughts?

I like Moonlight Densetsu Japanese :D
Everytime I hear it, I get lost in its melondy, and forget all my reality troubles.

...That, and the fact that it sounds much better to me :D

I'm with you on the Sailor Star Song. I think Hanazawa has a beautiful voice and I wish she had done more; I also love Motto Suteki na Asa ga Kuru yo. The whole song has a mood of a reprise, a "one more for old time's sake" feeling, which fits perfectly for the last season, which reused so many elements or prior seasons.

A further question is, for those who prefer Moonlight Denetsu, do you favor the DALI version from Classic and R or the Peach Hips one from S and SuperS?
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

Isn't Peach Hips the group of the Sailor Senshi' seiyuu? I think Moon Lips is the group that sing the theme for S and SuperS. Anyways, I prefer the one from S and SuperS I guess because it's tad more upbeat, and it sounds like the singers have more energy.

You're right, my error. Moon Lips is correct.

As much as I love Makenai, Moonlight Densetsu is my favorite. I like the Moon Lips version the best (S/SuperS). It's more upbeat, and I just like the voices better.

Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Moonlight Densetsu. By far. It fit the series alot better IMO.

And I hate Moon Lips' version. Way too generic sounding, the DALI version seemed.. prettier? The vocals were alot better. And the overall beat was prettier. Moon Lips sounded, flat.

The Sailor Stars song is okay. It is a nice change from four seasons of Moonlight Densetsu, that's for sure. So it's original in it's own right, I suppose. I don't hate it, but it isn't a favorite of mine either. It's just... okay.

*

Moonlight Densetsu (S/SS) isn't as upbeat, in my opinion. It just sounds like generic synthesizer music, and the singers sound kind of bored, in my opinion. They just sound like they aren't putting much passion into their singing. This song isn't a favorite mine, and I doubt it will be. It's just boring, in my opinion.

*

Moonlight Densetsu (Classic/R) is my favorite theme song out of the three. I like how it sounds more like rock music, and I like the energetic sounds of the singing. Although I heard the S/SS version of this song first, I heard THIS theme in the Japanese R movie, and fell in love with it right away. I dunno, I guess I just prefer the more rock-n-roll sounds of the music the best. Not only that, but it is more energetic, in my opinion. So this theme definetley gets my vote for the better theme.

i love them all, but my favorite is DALI's moonlight densetsu. i agree that moon lips version is kinda... i don't know, bouncy pop-y? it kinda annoys me.

I prefer Sailor Stars Song over Moonlight Densetsu. Moonlight Densetsu will always be a classic song and I can't imagine anything else being played in the final battle of episode 46, but after four seasons of hearing the same opening theme, it gets kind of old listening to and the tune is a little too repeative for my tastes. I like how Sailor Stars Song feels more upbeat and I think the lyrics are much more prettier and less cheesy than Moonlight Densetsu's. Sailor Stars Song was also the very first anime song I ever heard in Japanese and it's the song that got me into listening to other anime songs in Japanese and J-pop in general and it continues to remain my favorite Sailor Moon song to this day.

I have to say I prefer The Sailor Stars Song over Moonlight Densetsu for the same reason as Cardcaptor Takato. ^^; I really can't add more than that.

Sailor Star Song. I just never really liked Moonlight Densetsu.

(And the dubbifying of it only made me grow to hate it even more.)

Moonlight Densetsu, the DALI version. While I think that each season should have had a different opening song, that's doesn't mean I don't love the original. For me, the Moon Lips version lost some of the oomph that the first version had.

The Sailor Star Song is okay, but it feels too... shiny. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it. ^^; Hanazawa Kae also sounded better in Motto Suteki na Asa ga Kuru yo, in my opinion.

There is another version of Moonlight Densetsu that nobody has mentioned. Moon Lips recorded the song for the opening of SuperS, but Sakurakko Club sang the opening for Sailor Moon S. They use the same instrumentation, but the voices are different.

I really don't like the DALI version of MD. It sounds bizarre and dated, like one of Christina Aguilera's new songs (pretty solid comparison). The Sakurakko Club version is good, but the Moon Lips version does sound like the singers are bored. The Sailor Star Song is great, without a doubt, but can you imagine if they played it for the first 166 episodes instead of Moonlight Densetsu? Good God, Japanese children with ruptured eardrums would have been pouring into hospitals by the thousands, a la the infamous Poke-seizures. I need to take long breaks from that song.

Stars Theme. I just like it a LOT better than MD. I just sounds, pretter. Plus, it's more fun to play on French Horn. Don't ask about that, I can play well by ear.

Hm...I have to say that I like the Sailor Star Song best. Probably because of the change of keys from C minor to C major, but I dunno. The lyrics seem to express Sailor Moon's desperation really well. Also, though I liked episode 46 using Moonlight Densetsu as the battle music, I have to say that it was much cooler to hear Sailor Star Song in episode 200. (Plus, when you hear it a couple times in E major in the series, episode 195 (when Rei was talking to Usagi) being an example, it's a really beautiful-sounding song, just hearing the melody.)

That's not to say I don't like Moonlight Densetsu, though. I like it quite a bit. My favorite version that I have heard so far is the one done by Aya Hisakawa (Mercury), if only because it sounds like she has a concert band backing her up. XD And the one that I hate the most is the upbeat jazz version done by Pretty Cast. I don't know why, but something about the rhythm of the melody bothers me a lot. But in terms of what was on TV, I still don't know whether I like DALI's or Moon Lips' version better.
