Are the monsters of the day truly evil?
Are the Youma, Cardians, Droids, Daimons, Lemures and Phage truly evil or are they merely beings with no free will of their own who just do what ever their masters tell them to do?
copied and pasted from Genvid.
It's know of hard to say.
Cardians most likely aren't truly evil. They're just like Ail and Enn, they're trying to save the Hell Tree.
Droids seem to be hinted at being like androids, if I remeber correctly Saphir did mention droids were created. (This is from the manga) So, they're just following orders.
Daimon, always seemed to me as being like evil spirits. I mean, they POSSESSED various objects.
Lemures were once human, it seems. And Phages were all once human too

I always imagined the youma from the Dark Kingdom as being some part of bizaar cult that Beryl (or Metalia) was head of. There was the one youma in the love boat that Ami and Rei went on who actually came to Jedite saying that she would gather a lot of energy for him. And Beryl was pretty pissed after him after she was killed.
The Cardians seemed more like beast who obeyed Ail and An.
Droids, well they were droids, being controlled by the Dark Moon
Daimons, they seemed to be programed to go after people with pure hearts and Tomoe created them.
Leumers, I also see them as part of a bizaar cult, so I would say they were evil.
Phages were originally people. It was kind of like their dark side being brought out and manipulated.

In the anime, at least. In the manga they're flying koosh-balls from hell.Umino wrote:The Lemures were once humans part of Nehelenia's court. Then she ate their dream mirrors, and they became Lemures.Rin wrote:Leumers, I also see them as part of a bizaar cult, so I would say they were evil.
But I don't understand why, at the end of the SuperS special episode, Ziroconia says the source of the lemures is deep in the earth. WHICH IS IT?

Yes your right Jeff. Ziroconia does say that the source of the lemures is deep in the earth. I always thought, even from the first time that I watched Sailor Moon SuperS, that the lemures were different from the ones that Nehelenia turned to monsters once she took their dream mirrors. I always thought that the monsters of the day that Sailor Moon defeated weren't human at all, whereas the ones in the Dead Moon Circus tent were humans. Maybe I always thought wrong.
Well, on at least one occasion that I can recall, the monster of the day was seen amongst the other freaks in the circus tent. Thus I kind of assumed that they were all Lemures. In the SuperS special, Zirconia actually does make a reference to Lemures coming from within the Earth, which complicates matters somewhet, although perhaps it's a coded reference to their ability to form from shadows.
Amazoness! Because men seldom make passes at girls who routinely kill men.

Perhaps the Lemures as monsters originally came from the earth but in order to take on a solid form they needed a body to possess?Jeff wrote:

"If we can''t comprehend the plan at hand, how could a higher plan make any more sense? I'd say you can only be a martyr if you know what you are dying for, and choose it"-Elphaba
"Those who made mistakes blame themselves and close their hearts. It's impossible to fix a mistake. Man can't return to the past. That's why we drink. Drunks, lushes, sliding alcohol down their throats to dilute the memories that can't be denied.-Vash The Stampede"

But Nehelenia's flashback in episode 166 clearly shows her subjects turning into lemures when she takes their dream mirrors. So, for your theory to work, the lemures would have had to fly up from the earth to the Dead Moon or wherever Nehelenia is from (Seriously, what asteroid is in orbit around the moon? The manga explanation made more sense.). And that just seems plain unlikely.
Or, could it be, that like all things SuperS, it just doesn't make sense and there's no way around it. :-\
