Omissions in English manga?

Post by esti » Fri Jul 21, 2006 6:45 pm

Does anyone know if there are omissions in the Sailor Moon english manga compared to the originals? The reason I ask is because I have the original collection from many many years ago, and I have never been able to read them but have been able to enjoy the beautiful illustrations. I have a friend who has the entire english manga and has offered that I borrow them to read, but I really don't want to if anything has been changed or omitted like what DiC did with the dubs. I can't bear to read it if the storyline has been changed, actually I've held off this long because I heard the translation was so ridiculously bad. There are definately sexually suggestive illustrations/parts in the orginal manga, along with a fair amount of violence so I just wouldn't be suprised...

Perhaps I'll introduce myself in this space while I'm at it- I attended a primary school that was changing into a Japanese language school when I was young and one of my teachers would teach us about Japanese pop culture as an intramural activity- I grew up watching the subtitled Sailor Moon episodes before the dubs came into North America. I remember almost crying when I first saw the english dubs- actually I've never been able to sit through a full episode. Me and friends from that class would go to downtown Chinatown back when it was safe for 9-10 year olds to do so, and we would bargain our way to imported manga and videos, and quickly became regulars to many of the merchandisors. I never forgot about the series, even though I've rarely thought about it in 7 or so years. But is has had a huge effect on my art (I work in indie film and small animation productions, storyboard, and illustration) and I'll never forget that. Now that I can actually read the manga, I'm a bit scared to, in fear of disappointment etc. Anyways, thanks for reading my 'essay' and hopefully I can contribute somewhat to this community.

* edit title because I had Mixx and tokyopop confused

We have an introductions thread. Please do your introduction there. It's located in the Member Bulletin Board.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

As far as I know, the artwork is untouched. It's just flipped from the Japanese edition. The only thing about Mixx's edition is that it's filled with typos and mistakes.
