Are any parts of the series still "alive?"

Post by S and E » Fri Jul 14, 2006 5:16 pm

The anime is over, the manga is over, PGSM is over. The musicals, as far as I know, are on hiatus.

Is Sailor Moon dying? Is there any future for the series?

(Sorry if this is considered off-topic. >_<;; )

No not really. Toei is such an ass they wouldn't make anything even without permission. Even if they did They wouldn't let anyone out of Japan see it.

Still don''t know why this sig sucks. And I''ve been spelling sailor wrong for 2 years. Huh.

o.O how is Toei an ass for wanting to secure permission befor emaking anything? If anything, that makes them credible. If I were Naoko, I would not want my character and story used without my permission, either.

I mean, the series is old, guys. It was made in the early 90s. It's had a manga, novels, an RPG game, an anime, OAVs, HUGE amoutns of merchandise, musicals, movies, and a live action show. What more do you WANT done to it? A fandom still exists, but hell, I don't think there's any point in beating a dead horse. What else could you possibly do to it?

Reinterpretations?

Look at Scooby Doo, Gundam, and Transformers; they've been around for MUCH longer than Sailor Moon, and still enjoy a sizeable fan following with different incarnations of the series. To say that Sailor Moon is "over" is incorrect thinking; all it takes is a new creative team to cobble together ideas based on the mythos of the series and you'll have something that can be exciting for a new generation.

*Shrugs* I just personally would rather leave it alone. I was even a little iffy about the live-action version, and there are quite a few things I don't like about it. (Sailor Luna >_> god kill it.)

I personally thought the Scooby Doo movie was utterly STUPID, Gundam is overdone and my god should die, too, and...I don't know much about Transformers, so no comment. ^^;

Isn't there merchandise still being made for the series though? Maybe not an entire line of toys, but doesn't Toei still allow the making of the occasional Sailor Moon statue. *and huggles Sailor Luna. I'm the only one that loves her T_T*

Yep, they still have quite a large merchandisable thing going on. ^_^

Well, I think in the year 2012 there should be a movie made. Then it'd be 20 years after the original season and if they timed it right they could release it on the day Sailor Moon first aired. Wouldn't that be cool? :D

A few things could happen with that...

-Copy the 10th Anniversary Dragonball film and re-animate the beginning.
-Show the senshi 5/10/20 years later
-Show the senshi in the future; Chibi-Usa possibly a baby or a small child (Hell the ending could be about her going back in time :D )
-Right where it left off; maybe Usagi and Mamoru's wedding
-In the future; Chibi-Usa as a teen fighting as Sailor Moon, possible other senshi present since it'd be an anime.

Now for a manga anniversary deal... well I never got to read the manga so someone else do that.

I don't think Sailor Moon is dying but just like what Tiff said, what more do you want? Thank goodness Sailor Moon churned out a lot of products, merchanise, and TV series the way it did. There are still SM forums out there for Sailor Moon fans and as long as we Sailor Moon fans keep the series alive by discussing and watching them then it will never die.

Sailor Moon had 5 seasons with 200 episodes, 3 TV movies, a few Specials, and it lasted for 14 years. That is a great achievement. Sure some of us want to see a Special on a specific Sailor Soldier just like the Ami TV Special but if this is all that is brought to us, then I'm completely satisifed. If another SM series was done who said it would be good? I mean the show was done years ago (I think 1996 or 1997) and with 5/6 years since the show stopped, maybe the cast is moving on to other things. If SM kept continuing maybe it would go off the air because of low ratings. When SM SuperS aired in Japan it didn't receive as much ratings.

The only way to keep it alive is to keep watching and discussing the shows. :D

what they should do in my opinion is make a movie a few years down the road. Maybe make it live action and have a lot of really awesome special effects or something like that. A lot of shows have done this with different levels of success.

For the moment Im satisfied with what it available. They shouldnt keep making the show until it gets ruined like so many other shows do these days

that's my concern. Sometimes, if you overdo something, it no longer remains good.

I also agree that there should be a Sailor Moon movie that would either focus on the future Crystal Tokyo or even a few films that would go into the lives of the individual Sailor Senshi since we saw a film on Ami but I'm happy with what we have.

If Sailor Moon (the original series--not live action) did come back as a series I would be a little hesitate on it because I wouldn't know if the series would maintain the quality it did years before. I don't think the show should come back as a series--maybe a small crop of movies but as a series, I don't think so.

But I'm happy with what we have and after I watch ALL 200 episodes, I'll watch all 200 of them again. :D

XD Wow. <_<;; When I made this topic, I had no idea it'd get so many replies so quickly.

Anyway, I agree with what a lot of you said. Continuing the series would just be milking it to death. I guess I'm just ending-phobic.

Well, it already ended... no harm in that really.

A new series would be the worst thing that could happen but since Sailor Moon was and still is very well known I think a tribute should be made for it in the future. I mean seriously, it isn't like alot of anime where it comes, it does and it dies. Sailor Moon is still alive.

I also agree Panda that a new series would be the worst thing to happen. Question: In Sailor Stars, in the anime, was Chaos the source of all the evil and the enemies such as the Dark Kingdom, Death Busters, Dead Moon Circus, etc? And since Chaos is destroyed there wouldn't be any new enemies, right?

Well yes and no. All of those enemies were related to Chaos but that doesn't mean there isn't anything stronger than Chaos does it? Well it shouldn't.

Not to mention, if that were true than there could be a continuity issue regarding Chibi-Usa. If Chaos was destroyed in The normal timeline than The Dark Moon should never have exhisted, thus Chibi-Usa wouldn't have gone back in time thus...

You get the point I hope?

The North American liscence expired awhile back so that's why there are no more episodes available for purchase or for TV.

I think SM (the anime) was always mistreated in America. Even when the English dub was on Cartoon Network it never received that much attention. It was always Dragonball Z that received the most attention. Even though Dragonball Z is a popular anime and has twice as many more episodes than Sailor Moon, SM is the anime that will always be my fave.
