Sailor Moon to W.I.T.C.H
I don't know if this has been done since i'm fairly new but...
Is W.I.T.C.H an alternate version of sailor moon since they pratically share the same storyline?
Sailor Moon: Find Sailor soliders, Find Moon Princess and Silver Crystal, defeat dark kingdom or "negaverse" and meatalia
W.I.T.C.H: Awaken the five guardians(sailor senshi) Find queen of meridian (moon princess), use heart of cantracar (silver crystal) to defeat king Phobos (Metalia).

I don't think its a deliberate rip off of the material as much as the formula. This happens with every successful genre and Majou Bishujo isn't any different.
The producers just want to sell toys, so they would rather not have to take the time to try to develop an original plot if there's already a successful one out there.
I think it was one of my English professors that told me, in preparation for a creative writing assignment, there are only 7 truly unique types of genres out there so don't worry too much about trying to be original. (He wanted us to be creative, but not kill ourselves trying to be unique or miss the assignment deadline, which some students did in the past).

The power of love conquers all...except a nuclear hypocenter.

It may or may not be. I don't think it should matter.
If it's good then let it be. It's not like Sailor Moon is flawless so maybe this newer piece of work can perhaps improve in some of the spots where Sailor Moon wasn't up to par?
Regardless, I doubt these new "rip-off" anime will take the place of Sailor Moon in any of our hearts so... don't let it bother you.

I think you got it kinda mixed. Sailor Moon is similar to Magical Girls.
I just mean that Sailor Moon was not and is not a 100% unique story itself. It does have its roots and I would think of it as a tribute to it's creator and to it's fans that someone else would want to use Sailor Moon as it's own influence.

Exactly. Sailor Moon actually gets alot of ideas from other magical girls. It seemed heavily influenced by Cutie Honey, and Majokko Megu. (Apparently the Toei Producers wanted SM to be alot like it - which Juinichi Sato disagreed with) Although Naoko Takeuchi seemed to be most inspired by Sentai series.Panda wrote:I think you got it kinda mixed. Oh, I haven't really seen any of Witch-- but those transformations scenes were indeed inspired by Sailor Moon. (As far as I know Sailor Moon series is the only series with *sparkly* henshins)
Tokyo mew mew has them too ^^Umino wrote:Exactly. Sailor Moon actually gets alot of ideas from other magical girls. It seemed heavily influenced by Cutie Honey, and Majokko Megu. The transformation sequences from Witch are very like SM's one - anybody reconise the position they start in is like SM's first henshin?
I think what made Sailor Moon's hensin's so good is that whatever was happening on screen matched the music, and it was all very well choreographed. They just didn't stand there, which is the downfall of other series henshin sequences, I think.

Very well said Blackat! I totally agree with what you said. The transformation on the TV screen matched the music and like you said it was beautifully choreographed. What also made the transformations work too was the music. I think if the music wasn't like the henshin sequences wouldn't have worked that well.Blackat wrote:The transformation sequences from Witch are very like SM's one - anybody reconise the position they start in is like SM's first henshin?
