I hated that voice. Urgh.
Well, to me personally, I think that Stephanie's voice really caught the cuteness in Chibiusa's voice, but not only that...it was the closest to a high-pitched Japanese voice. The first Rini was horridly nasal, and the voice just send shivers up my spine. Chibiusa isn't nearly as bratty as the first VA made her constantly sound. She made her sound like a little bitch, IMO. Chibiusa's character isn't truly like that.
Plus, Stephanie's voice is 100% natural. That's truly how she sounds, and that's a big plus for me.
Heh, granted, Rini's original voice would never make me shed tears like Chibiusa did. But I actually thought the Bratty-Chibiusa was a pretty good idea.

Something about Rini's second voice just irked me. She sounded... more kiddish than she should have, IMO. Despite the fact that Rini is a kid.

Or maybe it's just that Chibiusa/Rini loses so much of her cuteness factor in S. There's no mystery behind her or a reason to feel sad for her (like in R), and the way her legs get longer when she transforms is just downright creepy. That, bundled with a new voice (which take time to get used to.), just shot the Rini character to hell for me, I guess.

Well, here's how it went for me...I used to HATE Rini/Chibiusa's character back before I saw a lot of the sub, and it was mainly due to her dub voice. I hated it, so it made me hate the character. As I said, she was such a little bitch. And then once I heard the original voice, I then thought she was pretty funny and cute. It all tied down to the voice and the way she was characterized.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

The thing is, I think DiC meant to characterize Chibiusa as a really spoiled little bitch. And, if that's what they were going for, then the voice suited her perfectly. Afterall, you ended up hating her, didn't you? :)

The only reason I didn't care for Stephanie Beard's voice too much is because it made her so kiddish. In retrospect, that's probably more faithful to Chibiusa's original personality, but I hadn't seen the original at that point, so I missed the bratty Chibiusa. And it's never fun getting used to new VAs.

I still haven't gotten used to Serena's S voice. >_> (Then again, I never want to get used that voice, either.)

I love Darien's voice in classic episodes 12-40 and R episodes 42-65.
I love Serena's voices in classic and R.
I love Mina's voice classic and R.
I love Rini's voice in S and SuperS.

My favorite voice actor is Toby Proctor.

Toby Proctor - Darien / Tuxedo Mask

I love Toby Proctor. He does Tuxedo Mask/Darien's voice in English episodes 12-40 and 42-65. He has the perfect voice for Darien/Tuxedo Mask. He sounds charming, romantic, cute, sexy and very passionate. I love his voice acting. He has a fantastic voice. I adore Toby Proctor. He just sounds so sweet and wonderful. I love his voice acting. Tuxedo Kamen/Mask is my favorite anime male and Sailor Moon is my favorite anime character and Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen/Mask are my favorite anime couple ever. I love how they are together in every season and how they always kiss and hug and dance. Toby Proctor has such a wonderful voice and he shows so much passion and love for his role. He's also very nice to his fans. He visits Tuxedo Kamen/Mask shrines and signs their guestbooks, and says really sweet comments. I also know some people who have spoken to him through e-mail, and they say he's a really nice person.

Their are so many wonderful voices in both the Japanese and English versions, I love both the fan-subbed version and the dub, but the Japanese fan-subbed version is my favorite. I love Toby Proctor and I would like to say that DiC should have paid him more. He was their best voice actor. I love many voice actors and I really love his voice acting.

I really lo

Out of the many voice actors they had in the dub, and most, in my opinion, bad ones, these are the few ones that I liked:

Tracey Moore: I know I sound like the rest of you, but I'm serious. This girl had a cute, teenage girl-sounding voice, and was able to pull it off without being too valley girl-sounding or ditzy. In retrospect, I think this was the best VA that the Dic-heads had gotten. It's a shame she didn't stick around longer, I could've done without Terri and her yodel-squeal, *shudder*. Linda was okay when she wasn't trying too hard to be a Terri-Moon, but her voice was WAY too deep and well, sounded like a 40-year old valley girl that was left behind in the valley by the others..

Susan Roman: Eh, her voice was good, and surprisingly enough, she was one of the few actresses to stay on for the S and SuperS seasons. A bit deep, but still was able to act, that is until they hired Nicole Thualt as the voice director. That's when nearly everyone's voices got weird..She can't hold a candle to Emi Shinohara(sp?) though..

Sabrina Grdevich: Pluto's VA from the R season. I liked her then, whereas in the movies, her voice sounded too teenage and young for Pluto, as did Susan Aceron's, IMO. I'm sure if there had been a better voice director, "Pluto DEADLY SCREEEAM" wouldn't have been so painful on the ears as it was..

Stephanie Beard: Tracy Hoyt made "Rini" a little spoiled stuckup bitch that made me cringe at the sound of her voice, Stephanie Beard was able to capture the other sides of the character, rather than making her sound like "Evil Incarnate"..

I think Sarah LaFleur's voice was okay in the S season, but too dry and emotionless in the delivery of the lines. The movies, though, ugh, she sounded too high-pitched and well, like she was delivering her lines way too fast, like "URANUSWORLDSHAAAKING!"

Luna's voice actress would've been fine with me, except for the fact that Luna, a cute, little, sassy, guardian cat is not SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE VOICE OF MARY POPPINS WITH A BUG UP HER BUTT! It doesn't FIT! Jill Frappier's voice would've been fine somewhere else on the show, but NOT LUNA! GAAH! What've they done to you, Luna?

Serena's first voice was one of my favorites, as well as Chibimoon's second. I also didn't mind Pluto's first voice.

But that way, Luna's voice is unstereotypical! It'd be GOOD to have a character with an accent like that who's cute, young, and sassy!

I loved Lita's VA (The way she would call out her attacks with such force fit the character perfectly.)

Serena's first and second VA's (Natural, much less contrived sounding than the third.)

Rini's first and second VA's (Love the utter brattyness in the first.)

Amara, Michelle, and Trista's VA's (Great voices, but the lines they were given were awful.)

Catzi's first VA

Raye's VA

Tomoe's VA

Mimet's VA

I LOOOOOOVED Serena's Cloverway voice, Linda Ballantyne. She was so ditzy and funny! I liked all the dub voices except for Amy, Trista and Rini's Cloverway voices.

Dub VAs

Post by corza-chan » Fri Feb 17, 2006 5:37 am

it is true that Tracey Hoyt (Rini #1) did make her seem a bit more evil than Chibi Usa was in the original version, but still i prefer her to Stephanie Beard. Personally, I think that Stephanie Beard just didnt suit the character even though she sounded closer to the Japanese voice actress Kae Araki.

My Favs Are as follow:
- Tracey Moore (Sailor Moon #1) - the first and best coz she sounded the most like the original Usagi.
- Terri Hawkes (Sailor Moon #2) - only in certain eps though.
- Karen Bernstein (Mercury #1) - she was better than Liza Balkan, who's voice just annoyed me!! same with Moon's #3 VS Linda Ballantyne. I know she is a great voice actress in terms of changing her voice to suit the look on moon's face. But Serena is supposed to sound cute!
- Katie Griffin (Mars #1,3) - The best mars by far! I was so glad when they brought her back in SMS, coz while Emilie Barlow did her voice i just wanted to shoot her coz it didnt suit her at all!!
- Susan Roman (Jupiter) - They could not have chosen a better VA for Makoto Kino. Lita is exactly like her (Thanks Susan!)
- Stephanie Morgenstern (Venus #1) - even though Emilie did a good ditz version of Mina in SMS & SuperS, Stephanie will always be my fav!
- Toby Proctor (Tuxedo Mask #2) - Out of all 3, Toby was the best! He just made Darien sound like the "hunk" he was meant to be.
- Jill Frappier (Luna) - even though Luna was supposed to be younger, Jill didnt do too badly... except for the S movie... which was probably her worst performance ever!!! sorry Jill, but it had to be said.
- Sabrina Grdevich (Pluto #1) - she just did a good job in R and sounded better than Susan Aceron who didnt really make the character come to life. Sabrina ruined it in the Movies though. I guess since she hadnt done Pluto's voice in over 4 years she lost her touch.

There are so many i could go through that i think suited the character, but i would be here forever. Before I go, i'll quickly run through voices that i thought were really bad, when comparing them to their character.

Sara LaFleur as Sailor Uranus was really bad in SMS movie, and still sounded a bit off in the SMS season aswell. Bad idea to choose Barbara Radecki as Sailor Neptune. Did they think we wouldnt notice Michelle and Ikuko Tsukino sound the same!!! Serena: "whoa! mom! you're sailor neptune!? wtf"

Jennifer Gould, who played Hotaru just sounded kinda weird... but she is very good @ pronouncing the Japanese names though

I think season 1 and 2 (DiC), did the best for VAs and when it came to the 3rd and 4th and Trish Dynes (s1 & 2) left the casting all to Nicole Thuault... all hell broke loose!! lol... and i think i've said enough now. :D

the decent VAs?
Mars voice (the same voice since the beginning)
Jupiters voice
Venus old and new voices although I kinda prefer the new voice kinda suites her better
I hated Amara's that voice was a forced tomboyish voice. it didn't suite her at all she speaks like she's a robot about to combust.
Michelle? She speaks like a phedofile mother.
Trista is just ehhh kinda too young and teenage sounding probably would have been better off as mercury or someone else.
Hotaru's voice is okay. sometimes it suites her perfectly then sometimes the VA makes her voice a bit too old.
I can't stand linda as the new moon. Terri Hawkes wasn't great but we're they on DRUGS when they picked linda!? even the voice for andrew's sister would have been better. Linda sounds like LUNA only without the british accent. The first time I heard her voice I was about to kill myself. I can't believe they were THAT drugged up I mean come on now...LINDA?! Maybe it would have been better if she didn't try to imitate Terri...but I think either way it would have came out sounding yuck =X Ami is just as bad though heh.
I actually like Stephanie beards chibi moon the first one wasn't THAT bad but in a way I kind of thought it suited her a little better. Stephanie's was a little TOO cute. and chibimoon isn't all that sweet she's kind of a little bitch =P

From what I have seen:

In the DiC dub:
Everyone one was a good voice actor. The only one I didn't like was the first "Darien" because it just didn't seem to fit to me. I really loved "Serena's" first voice actor. She was PERFECT. Oh, and just to mention, this all from episodes I have seen. I haven't seen any R dub episodes, but from what I have heard, Chibi-usa's voice actor was horrible.

Cloverway dub:
The only one I liked was "Rini's" voice. Perfection.

I'm not sure if this should go here or not, but I found a possible reason for why the American dub gave Molly a Brooklynese accent. I have heard that in the Japanese version, her voice is an Osaka accent, which makes sense given her family name. Maybe the dubbers were trying to keep this aspect of her character, especially since the Osakan stereotype (according to what they said on Azumanga Daioh, at least) is similar to the American stereotype of New York people.

You have a point Rainbow. But at least the Japanese version of Naru's accent wasn't fake.

At the risk of sounding repitive, I love Serena's first voice, and Rini's second voice. They really match the character's personalities.

Lita's voice annoyed me at first, but it grew on me. I think it became less harsh in later seasons.

I liked Luna's voice (except for the S movie, where it didn't fit at all). I know she's supposed to be young, but Ive always kinda liked the idea of the Scouts having someone a little older and wiser looking out for them. I do prefer the Japanese voice though.

Yet in AzuDai, they gave Ayumu a southern accent, and it was soft, still normal. Also, being from Osaka was a major part of her character (because she *wasn't* though and brash like the Osakan stereotype), wheras Naru was there mostly to be the Jimmy Olsen to Sailor Moon's Superman.

It may be an explanation, but it's not an excuse, is what I'm saying.
Things I think Are Funny Early in the Morning: If Batman were a Smurf: "Quick, Robin! We must smurf down to the Batcave and smurf the Batplane! Then we must smurf the batsmurf so we can smurf where the Joker is smurfing!"

The Croonerism Spate (explanations upon request)
Be careful with this one, there is a bit of a pun involved. Dr. Spooner described his visit to a castle: "In the center of the fortress was the Palace Court. The gated entrance to this area was the court palace."

I liked Serena's first voice, Rini's S and SuperS voice, Artemis and Luna's voices, Nehelenia's voice, the Amazon Quartet's (all their voices), Queen Beryl, Molly's, Raye's, Lita's, and Mina's classic and R voice. Oh yeah, and Ann's and Alan's voices from R.

Ah, you reminded me: I also love the voices of the Amazon Quartet. Very cute and suited to their personalities (even if Jun-Jun's voice was nearly the same as that one boy's >_>)
