Decent Sailor Moon dub VAs

Post by Chibi chibi star » Fri Nov 14, 2003 4:58 pm

Okay, I know the dub VAs sucked and blowed (I didn't think it was possible to do that), but there were some that were decent. Here's my list:
Tracey Moore (Serena's first VA)
Amara's VA (don't know her name)
Michelle's VA (ditto)
Stephanie Beard (Rini's Cloverway VA)

Are there any others?
I wish on a star...
Just to be with you...
Please find me...
Call my name for me...
I'll be there for you...
My only love...

I thought Lita and Raye's voices were pretty good...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum
"Monster! I''''m going to collide with you indefinitely as my limbs flail wildly about!" ~NPC, Dragon Warrior VII
"I bet you were thinking how hot it would be to see Tsunade with her gates wide open, inviting you..." ~DuneMan
"To use gaming terms, Tyrannosaurus Rex was a camper--- and he pwned his prey!" ~BaronVonAwesome

The only voices I had a problem with were Ami's, Setsuna's movie VA, and Naru.

Everyone else I didn't mind....

Most of the villains were really good, nothing to whine about 'cept Zirconia.

I have to agree with Dinozore. "Lita" was an excellent voice actor and I liked the original "Raye". But I also like the newer "Rini" ^_^ she's so cute.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I thought these were decent-

Tracey Moore (Serena's first )
Stephanie Beard (Rini's second)
Emilie Barlow (Mina's second VA. I don't like her as Raye in the last 17 episodes of R and the movies though)
Sabrina Grdevich (Pluto's first VA but only in R. In the movie she was horrible)
Jeff Lumby (Professor Tomoe. Aside from how he mispronounced his daughter's name a couple times he was great)
Kirsten Bishop was pretty good at all her roles especially Emerald but I got tired of hearing her >_>
Susan Aceron (Hotaru, Mistress 9 and Snow Kaguya. She had a ton of others including Pluto in S but I didn't like her at all as those)

Everyone else sucked or they were barely mediocre IMO.

Stephanie Beard - second Rini. PERFECT voice.
Tracey Moore - cute, upbeat, and about as close to usagi as I've ever heard.
Sabrina Grdevich - Pluto's first VA. I loved the way she said "YOU ARE NOT WORTHY".

Rei's first voice wasn't bad, but I think I got turned off of it becuase of how bitchy she sounded all the time. Of course, that was DiC's fault for making her sound that way.
And as for Lita's...as a voice alone, it was good, but I think it was way too masculine-sounding for Makoto. Makoto may have been tough, but she still had a feminine side to her, and her voice showed that. I think Lita's voice was just too....raw.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I think you all know who I like already, so I won't repeat what I've said in the "favorite VA" topic. (I also somewhat like Molly's voice, but it's not really a favorite since I've heard better and thicker Brooklynese accents elsewhere.)

Hmm, fav dub vas...let's see. My top fav is a tie between Rini's 2nd voice and Proffesor Tomoe's. Proffesor Tomoe sounded really evil and sinister, and his was just perfect, and Rini's 2nd voice sounded really cute and sweet, and I have to say I like her better than Kae Araki. Serena's first English voice was also really good, and I think it suited her character well. She's no Kotono Mitsuishi, though. Lita's dub voice was pretty ok. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it. Everyone else was so-so or really bad.

Well, I like...
Tracey Moore - She was so good for the role, plus, she could scream without yodeling!
Stephanie Beard - Cute as a button! ...Wait, buttons aren't cute! Who came up with that?!
Sabrina Grdevich - In the R season she did a pretty good Pluto.
Jeff Lumby - Aside from mispronunciations his voice works pretty well for Professor Tomoe, not for Kakeru however IMO.
Susan Aceron - I didn't even know her name until I saw LadyFlameSniper's post. ^_^; She was okay as Hotaru but I really liked her as Himeko in the S movie.
NameGoesHere - Now made with 100% more ingredients.

Tracey Moore (Sailor Moon: DiC eps 1-11, 13, 21, 41)
Terri Hawkes (Sailor Moon: all other season 1 eps)
Katie Griffin (Sailor Mars: DiC eps 1-65, S)
Susan Roman (Sailor Jupiter)
Stephanie Morganstern (Sailor Venus: Classic and R)
Toby Proctor (Tuxedo Mask: DiC eps 12-65)
Stephanie Beard (Sailor Mini Moon)
Kirsten Bishop (Zoycite)
Dennis Akayama (Malachite)

...and I could have sworn that Scott McNeal (who was Piccolo's VA in the early DBZ episodes) also did Neflyte, but it turns out to be someone called "Kevin Lund". Weird ^^;

-Lita and Mina had pretty good voices. Lita's voice fit her tough personality. Someone earlier mentioned that it lost that feminine touch Makoto had, but I saw very little original Sailor Moon (no DVD money, and not very many working downloads), Makoto's one of the voices I've least heard in those downloads, and during those times, she sounded tough for me. As for Mina, it's a common mistake for English dubbers to make many female characters sound ditzy and stuff, but in the case of Mina, that actually fit, because Minako was actually ditzy.

-Rini's VA during S and SuperS. Many have stated it before, it fit her cuteness much better than her bratty R voice.

-Pluto's VA during R (I wouldn't call it her 'first' exactly. Remember that during her first appearance, they gave her the voice of Luna). She kept that very mysterious quality to her. It's such a real shame that she got replaced by a valley girl in S.

-Hotaru's VA. She seems to sound like an innocent little girl in both versions.

Makoto's voice is deeper than the other inners but it was still feminine.

I also feel Lita's voice was too boyish for her. I remember callin her the "scout with the boy's voice" years back

*nods* exactly...Lita's was just too punkish sometimes, like she was some ex-gang member who always wanted to beat shit up.

That's interesting. I've heard that Naoko orginally intended her to actually BE a gang member who smokes, but then later changed that, obviously. There is a possible remenant of this in one of the Chibi-Usa's Picture Diaries, Makoto is seen smoking a "chocolate cigarette," or so the MiXX manga I have says. Or does anyone know if that was a REAL cigarette in the original version?

Well, dont get me wrong. I didn't find it horrid or anything. I just wish they hadn't made her sound so "i'm gonna whoop your ass bitch cuz that's all i care about" all the time. Even when she was staring at guys, she sounded masculine >___>;;

I would have loved to hear Lita actually say that with the voice they gave her :)
