Sailor Moon S is the reason I started liking Sailor Moon in the first place.
I actually didn't start watching it until near the end... I was home sick one day in seventh grade and nothing else was on. It was getting close to the part where Hotaru becomes Mistress 9. Needless to say I was hooked and kept taping it after I went back to school.
I thought the ending of the season was amazing and I started becoming totally obsessed with Sailor Moon. I still haven't seen a good chunk of S, but that's okay, I'm sure I'd like it. =D
Whoo.

I'm currently watching Sailor Moon S in Japanese w/subtitles and there are a huge amount of changes between the original and the dub. In the dub version there are lots of inconsistencies such as Sailor Senshi attacks are called one thing and in another episode is called another and the biggest inconsistency that confuses me throughout the dub are terms such as "Purity Force", "Objects of Power", "Ambassador of Good", "Legendary Princess", "Bureau of Bad Behavior", "Heart Snatchers", "Sovereign of Silence", etc. The dub should have just kept the original terms: Talisman, Witches 5, Messiah, The Holy Grail, etc.
Even if the dub was redubbed I don't think die heart SMS fans will like it because the voice actors/actresses will still be there and the emotion displayed in the original just can't seem to be displayed in the dub.
In the dub episode "Lita Borrows Trouble", if you compare that to the original, it's like watching 2 different episodes. In the original, Usagi thought that Mako-chan had a crush on Haruka and she tries to remind Mako-chan that Haruka is a woman. But in the dub it seems like Usagi (Serena) is mad at Mako-chan (Lita) because she seems to be dumping her for a new best friend who is Haruka (Amara). Those are tremendous changes that changes the meaning of the episode. Mako-chan never had a crush on Haruka like Usagi thought. Mako-chan looked up to her and wanted to be the woman that Haruka was. In other words, Mako-chan wanted and hoped to be like her.
In Ep. 5 (original Japanese) when Haruka & Michiru talk about "kissing" to Usagi and Elizabeth (I forgot her Japanese name), near the end of the conversation Michiru says something like "A first kiss. You have to cherish it", she looks at Haruka and you can see that something is going on between them and it makes more sense in the original then in the dub when Michiru (Michelle) is talking about her first kiss from this guy name Brad and looking at Haruka and wondering where Brad is today.
In Ep. 5 Michiru says to Haruka, "We don't have the luxury to fall in love". I take it that she means that she doesn't have time to fall in love or have any romantic relations with Haruka because of their mission.
I'm sorry for this long post

I like this season because of the outer senshi, and because of Usagi's super henshin. Also I like that Chibiusa becomes a senshi! Mistress 9 is freaking aweseome too! However, a lot of people have said the villains for the season are dark, and while they are, I think other villians have been darker. I think the Dark Kingdom and Black Moon were a lot darker. That's just me I guess.

I have a few questions concerning Sailor Uranus & Neptune's mission and about them having to sacrifice people in order to save the world. Now let me get this straight and please tell me if I got this whole thing right . . . OK here I go:
Sailor Uranus and Neptune's mission is to get the 3 talisman and the Holy Grail and find the Messiah in order to save the world. Now in the process they have to sacrifice 3 people in order to do that and try to get the 3 talisman before the Deathbusters do. However the Inner Sailor Senshi does not believe in sacrificing a person in order to save the world. They believe that the world can still be saved without sacrificing 3 people at all. The Inners believe that by just working together and defeating the Deathbusters (without getting the talisman or holy grail), the world will be saved but the Outer Senshi do not believe that the Deathbusters will quit at their task of getting the 3 talisman and the Holy Grail so they have to beat them to the punch so to speak and get it before they do.
Is this right? If not please correct me. This is the 2nd time that I've watched this series (first time watching it in the original Japanese version) in order. Thank you.

What is different from this season compared to the others are the enemies. As I'm re-watching the SMS again (almost finished watching it) I noticed that the victims are different from others such as Queen Beryl and even the Black Moon Clan. Professor Tomoe and Hotaru were both innocent victims without any trace of hate in their heart and the only trace of that was when they were possessed. The method that Germatoid, Mistress 9 (the evil being inside of Hotaru) and Pharoah 90 (all from the Tau Nebula) did in order to obtain the 3 talisman and the Holy Grail was supreme genius in my opinion. Even before the Death Busters emerged, from the Tau Nebula, Pharaoh 90, Germatoid and Mistress 9 all had a plan to destroy Earth and they knew about the Holy Grail being the only power to admit Pharoah 90 into Earth but the Messiah of Silence (Mistress 9) was the only one who could obtain the Grail and admit the "Silence". First of all, Germatoid possesses Prof. Tomoe and establishes the Death Busters, planned the Mugen Academy as a coverup for the Death Busters plans, used Professor Tomoe with his knowledge of science (since he was a scientist) and prepared a numerous amount of Daimons, and even recruit Kaorinite & the Witches 5 to find the talisman, the holy grail and the pure heart crystals to awaken the Messiah of Silence.
Question: When Germatoid appeared out of Professor Tomoe's invention that he made in his laboratory, did Germatoid appear purposely (with a purpose) to possess Tomoe so obtaining the Grail could be possible since he know it was on Earth? Or did Germatoid appear accidently and saw the opportunity when it came to him?
One constant battle between the Sailor Senshi (Inners & Outers) is whether to sacrifice Hotaru (Messiah of Silence) in order to save the world or not. The Outer Senshi always stuck with the belief of sacrificing a person in order to save the world and especially in the battle between the Death Busters, they believed there was no other way. On the other hand the Inner Senshi believed that Hotaru does not have to be killed in order for the world to be saved--there are other possible ways. And that's the beauty of this season because it's all about "sacrificing". In Episode 102, when Usagi is in the car with Haruka & Michiru she mentions that if a person sacrificed his/her life for her she could never let anyone give up their life for the sake of another. To Usagi there is always another way. To her it's not "either/or"--it's not either I save Hotaru or not.

Like others, I love S because it has a darker and more suspenseful plot. I love how the BGM is much more creepier than the previous seasons. The animation seems a lot more refined and much nicer in general, too. It was interesting how there was more of a morale dilemma this season with the Soldiers' debating about who/if they should sacrifice to save the world. I loved how even though the villains are much more sinister and twisted they still are sympathetic. Like even though I hated Kaorinite most of the season, I still couldn't help but feel sorry for her when she was killed after finally succeeding in her mission. Even Chibi-usa seemed to be a lot more mature in this season and I thought her friendship with Hotaru was really sweet and cute. It was also great to see more of Setsuna since I felt like she got really shafted in R. My only real disappointment was that Mamoru didn't get enough screentime this season. He almost felt kind of pointless to have around and I wished the anime had shown the actual battle between Saturn and Pharaoh 90 but otherwise this is a great season. The first season is still my favorite but S is definitely my second most favorite.
