Why do you like Sailor Moon S?

Post by SailorMoonFan » Fri Jun 16, 2006 7:05 am

A lot of Sailor Moon fans consider the Sailor Moon S season as the best out of ALL the Sailor Moon seasons. Why? I would like to hear why everyone thinks so. I haven't watched the original Japanese version of this season yet but I did watch the dubbed version and I really did like it. I know that when I watch the original version I'm going to like it even better because I will see the things that were originally suppose to be in there. In the dubbed they use the "Sovereign of Slience" whereas in the original it is the "Messiah" & the "Puritiy Chalice" is originally called "The Holy Grail". There are a lot of religious elements used in this season. Also it is very very dark and we see our 2 favorite characters who are Haruka & Michru (The Outer Sailor Senshi). I love their transformation music and is one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the series.

So why do you like Sailor Moon S? Who are your favorite characters from this season? Why do you like the plotline? What did you not like about it?

my favorite sailormoon season is R but I like S a lot because of sailorPluto and saturn, next to sailormars and sailormoon they are my favorite characters.

also the villians in that season are really cool espically Dr. Tomoe

I like Sailor Moon S because I think it has a different feel than the other seasons. This season had a more dark plot and atmosphere which in my opinion set it apart from SM, SMR, SMSS, and even SMStars. It was the most unpredicatable season and the only season where the outer senshi really got to shine. Even people who dislike the dubbing of Sailor Moon seem to like this season dubbed and uncut (I know a lot of people would take subbed over dubbed any day but you have to admit, this season was the best dubbed season of all).

Well my favorite season is actually the classic season but S comes in second.

I like how much darker it is than the other seasons and I loved the villians, especially Mistress 9 who I found really scary the first time I watched it.

Uranus and Neptune are introduced which is a plus and we get to see Pluto fight. I also like Hotaru the best in this season. In stars she's way to perfect while in S, she's a weak sick lonely girl. And it was also cool that she was possessed by Mistress 9.

I also liked how in the end it was Sailor Saturn who saved the day instead of Sailor Moon, and we didn't have to see another Princess Serenity power up. Don't get me wrong, The princess dress was cool in the first season finale, but after that it got a little annoying.

I don't think that it's the best season. But I like it a lot because of the variety of characters. See, there are new sailor senshi, and you just know that they differ a lot from those you know about two seasons. (does that make sense? Again, I apologize for my poor English) And the villains are quite funny in both sub and dub and luckily, they also have a personality (not all of them, but the majority)
The art is for the most time really well done and the animation for most parts fluent. ^^

ya I dont think it is the best but I enjoyed it.

It started out very mysteriously, didnt know who the shadowy figures were(Uranus, and Neptune), and they were different. The 5 witches were great to watch.

I only saw the dub of the season in the US, so the only thing that ruined the season for me mostly was the new voice actors, espically Serena..

Inconsistencies in Sailor Moon S Dub

Post by SailorMoonFan » Wed Jun 21, 2006 9:23 pm

I always divide the Sailor Moon S season into 2 because the 1st part deals with finding the 3 talisman to form the Holy Grail but later on in the season the Sailor Senshi have to find the true Messiah and this is where the season gets really intense. In the dubs of the SM S season, we get confused because of the inconsistency used throughout, but in the original Japanese the words "Messiah", "The Holy Grail" & "the talisman" are the only important words used unlike the dub where the words "the Sovereign of Silence", "The Bureau of Bad Behavior", "The Witches 5", "the treasures", "the heart snatchers", "the Purity Force", "the Purity Chalice", etc.

I love it because it's the only SM boxset that I have (I got it on Tues.), and since I haven't seen the show for many years, tons of old memories came rushing back to me. I flipped when I saw Dr. Tomoe, because I had completely forgotten about him, who was my favorite character! I really like the creepy villians, and his laugh in Japanese is just great! Plus, since this is my first time seeing it uncut, I get to see what Michiru and Haruka are really like and not have to suffer through the stupid "cousin" thing.

If I can just get the original now for Nephlite's episodes, I can die happy.

Oh, and I also understand why that one kid was called the "elephant boy" on here now... heh.

When Cloverway dubbed Sailor Moon S, Michiru and Haruka were both cousins and I think Cloverway seemed to make the situation worse than what it was. Because in the original, Michiru & Haruka were both friends who were lesbians but now in the dubbed Cloverway makes 2 cousins lesbians which is incest. All of the clues in the dub were right there and any person can see that. Even in the DIC dub of the Sailor Moon SuperS movie, you can hint that Michiru & Haruka (AKA, Amara & Michelle) are in some kind of relationship with each other.

DiC never dubbed the movies. They just dubbed the first two seasons.

I have to see Stars so S is currently the darkest of the seasons. I liked the plot and the intro of Uranus and Neptune. They were so different from the other senshi and I could relate to them more though the dub almost caused me to hate them. The pure hearts were refreshing from the whole stealing energy of the first two seasons. I liked the villans of this season. The Death Busters were the most human enemies in my opinion. I loved how they used science AND magic to acquire the pure hearts. I liked them all except Mimet who was annoying and didn't take her job seriously not to mention she killed my second favorite witch, Eudial.

I also liked Hotaru's intro and how she too was so different from the other senshi. And best of all, Sailor Moon ISN'T the one to save the day, Saturn was and that is so refreshing from the whole 'only Sailor Moon can defeat this enemy' that the other seasons had.

Basically I loved this season for it's darkness, fast plot( the fastest of ALL the seasons I've seen), music, human villans, Sailor Moon not being all powerful , and of course my favorite outer senshi.

What is probably disappointing to some SMS fans (not to me) is that the last 3 witches didn't survive that long, they only lasted one episode.

I agree about the plot--it goes very fast and the greatest thing about this season is finding out who the Messiah is, which 3 people who the talisman, what the Holy Grail is, etc. The music rocks and while some people may not like the disco-like music, it's way better than the music that DIC made. My favorite villain of the Death Busters is Kaolinite.

It has a dark plot. There's almost as much religious symbolism as Evangelion. The outers are great, and they really shine in this arc. The Witches 5 were interesting, and very human villains. Hotaru was a great character overall. Germatoid/Prof. Tomoe always made me laugh with his ridiculous amount of evil (he couldn't even make coffee without being evil; its like something out of 8-bit theater).
The power of love conquers all...except a nuclear hypocenter.

Yes, I just remembered! I was going to mention something about the religious symbolism & elements used in S but you beat me too it 8) The Marine Cathedral also plays a part in the religious symbolism used throughout this arc.

In the dub we only hear about Germatoid only once and when you hear Mistress 9 mention Germatoid you get confused because it was never mention before. Whereas in the original Germatoid was mention more than once so you know who he is and his name doesn't come out of the blue like it did in the dub. Maybe if Cloverway took their time dubbing those eppys there wouldn't be much confusion.

The name Germatoid is also mentiond only once in the orginal, maybe twice, by Mistress 9 (IIRC). I thought it was pretty obvious that it was the name of the Daimon possesing Prof. Tomoe. Its been a long time since I saw the dub so I don't remember how confusing that part was.
