I like the Japanese version much better. In the American version, we get a pair of incestuous cousins. In the Japanese version they're my favorite couple in Sailor Moon.

I'd be shocked if I found anyone on these boards who likes the dubbed Haruka and Michiru better.

I edited your thread subject to make it more specific.

I like your icon, btw. ^^

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

Me too!!!!! As for the topic, the Japanese ones for sure! At least when they would scream it wouldn't sound like a porn fest. But then again, IMO, an original Japanese version is ALWAYS better.

EDIT: As long as I know what they are saying! I hate it if I am not able to!

I like the Japanese ones better but I also like the dub version because it was the first time i saw them on tv so it's only for sentimental reasons. The voices are better in Japanese.

I'm in love with Haruka and Michiru! I've been infatuated with them ever since I saw them (when I was... 8?)

That being said however, I like the names Amara and Michelle very much. There is a beautiful sound to them that, if the English Language Version wasn't censored as strictly, could have made the couple just as if not more beautiful that they already are.

I like the Japanese Haruka and Michiru the best. I like how their able to freely express their love for one another, without any hint of cousin-ness (or whatever xD;;).

I deeply dislike the American Haruka and Michiru, because they weren't allowed to express their love as lovers, but cousins. And with all the closeness and hand touching... When I first saw those episodes on TV, I seriously think I thought to myself "Huh... Well, I bet *I* know who has a calling for incest!" That, and I think the dubebrs tried WAY to hard to make Amara sound masculine, she just sounds like a little boy going through his first stages of puberty. =/

Same as Tiff, I think that icon's ADORABLE! xD And yeah, Japanese version, but of course.
Although for some reason, how they're being called cousins, yet still holding hands and crud- is somehow hiliarious to me in a very wrong way...

Disturbingly close for cousins, but unlike what we consider incest, it's still legal for two cousins to have such a relationship.

Personally, I like Haruka and Michiru much better in the Japanese version. I don't mind so much that they censored their relatonship because censorship is unfortunately still a neccessary evil in this day and age in the U.S., but what I hate is how they censored it. If they were going to censor it at all, I would've much prefered it if they just made them sisters instead of cousins. Sisters are usually a lot closer than cousins are and it wouldn't be as odd to see sisters holding hands like that as cousins would. I think the worst change they made to their relationship to the dub was in episode 106, "Haruka and Michiru's Past", when at the end of the episode in the Japanese version, they hinted that Haruka and Michiru were going to have sex that night, at least that's how I interpeted Haruka's "I'm not going to let you go home tonight" line as, but in the dub they changed it so that Amara said they were going to go get ice cream and Michelle shouts out "Yeah!" and giggles like an annoying teeny bopper middle schooler.

It just really pissed me off that they destroyed the elegance of that scene with ice cream and Michelle's annoying giggles. Interestingly, I looked up Amara and Michelle's names at babynames.com and it said Amara's name meant "peace" and Michelle's name meant "who is like God." I think Michelle's name really fits her since she's always percieved as being perfect and gifted with a lot of talents and maturity, like she was God or something, but I don't think Amara's name fits her at all when you consider her name's meaning. I mean, how often was Haruka ever at peace during the show? Sure, she had her moments but most of the time she always seemed to be angsting about destroying the Messiah of Silence than anything else. I've always thought Alex would've made a nicer dub name for Haruka than Amara, since it sounds more gender ambigous than Amara does, and the meaning fits more since it means "protector of mankind."

I prefer Haruka and Michiru to Amara and Michelle. I never got why they made them cousins. I mean, I know they had to explain their closeness in a kid-friendly way, but they could've had them be "best friends". It would've went over the heads of younger viewers.

I also dislike the name Amara for the character. It's a pretty name, but it's too feminine, and ruins the joke in the episode where they first meet "Amara". Why would they think someone with such an obvously feminine name was a guy? O_o;
If they had to change the name, they could've picked an androngous name.

::nods:: I agree. There are a lot of perfectly good names that are used by both genders. Alex, Terri, Leslie, Jean, ecetera, ecetera. I never understood why they went with Amara. which is clearly gender bias.

Well, it fooled me the first time I saw it. I thought that Amara might be a Japanese boys' name or something, although I figured her real gender out when I saw Sailor Uranus.

Well... I know a guy named Courtner so maybe it isn't so odd....

I think they could also have easily gotten away with making them sisters. I'm extremely tight with my sisters and it's not an odd thing.

However, I would like to point out that cousins can be that close. I have a younger cousin (I'm 14, he's 12) and we're just like Haruka and Michiru (we don't kiss and have sex but we're TIGHT). I don't think it's that big a deal that they're cousins i the dub.Personally I think some of you are using that as another excuse to whine about the dub.

No, we're just stating our oppinions.

And I could care less whether they're sisters or cousins. It's still looks incestuous. They could have at least cut the hand holding scene and I wouldn't have had to have been squicked the first time I saw that episode dubbed.

I would have rather that they be made close friends and just cut out the hand holding scene because that leaves room for possibility. It's not like Haruka and Michiru ever kissed on screen.

As for the names. Michelle is fine for Michiru. I would have been happy with either that or Nerissa. They're both nice names.

Amara? That's sounds like an old lady's name and anyone with half a brain could tell that it is a woman's name, but then again, Cloverway did try to make Serena much stupider than she was, so maybe she could have been fooled. Something more gender ambigous like Alex or Joey would have worked. Heck Corrin would have worked if they called her Cory for short, but then that just reminds me of Boy Meets World. Michiru=Topanga anyone?

Oh yeah, and wasn't there a gay teletubbie? And didn't Nickelodeon air a Nick News that delt with same sex parents? I don't know, maybe those were just rumers.
