Thank you for reminding me about that! Now, moving on, don't they need to ask permission from Toei Animation? I highly doubt they would give us the rights! They won't even let us keep our DVD rights! And really, if this happens, our hopes for a Sailor Moon USA rebirth will go to a pretty good chance, to a WTF, you want us to see another version of this garbage???????

The article you linked didn't go into details, but I would assume that FOX had to get the rights from either Takeuchi or TOEI; the latter, I imagine, would only relinquish the rights again if FOX promised to make a watered-down version like what TOEI expected through the US dub (hence why Stars didn't make it here).

I was wondering if this was a hoax. When I read about it on titansgo.net, I automatically went to this site because you guys would be first to notify everyone. About Naoko Takeuchi giving permission, I highly doubt it. From what I have read, she wasn't pleased with the Japanese version, and even more displeased with the USA version. I doubt she, the creator of one of the most popular animé, would let its good name get tarnished. On the Fox thing, didn't they already have their rights to BSSM? I thought TOEI let ALL the rights in North America expire for good?

....Why would they make a movie of Sailor Moon in America? The series is pretty much non-existant here, and not alot of people (aside from anime fans of course, or people who watched it while they were kids) remeber it. Blah, Lindsay Lohan was funny in Freaky Friday, and Mean Girls but I seriously doubt she could pull off Sailor Moon.

Furthermore, why would a JAPANESE magazine announce the production of an AMERICAN movie? Wouldn't this have been announced in America first if it was true? Anyway, I think this is pretty obviously false. This site doesn't even quote the article from the magazine they claimed reported it. The North American companies don't have the rights to Sailor Moon in the U.S. anymore and there's just not any market for it left, so I seriously doubt Toei would let an American movie company produce a live-action movie version of Sailor Moon. Not to mention that Sailor Moon isn't popular in North America or Japan anymore and most Americans frankly don't really care about Sailor Moon or anime in general for a live-action American movie to make a profit. Aside from the R2 DVDs and the Japanese manga, Sailor Moon is pretty much non-existance in Japan right now, and if I remember correctly, Toei's original live-action PGSM series did rather poorly in Japan, so why would they let an American company produce their own live-action version, especially when Toei's Pretty Cure anime is all the rage in Japan right now? And if ADV can't even get their live-action Evangelion movie off the ground, I seriously doubt Fox could with Sailor Moon. Seriously, I think this news sounds pretty bogus and I think ANN would've reported it by now if it was true.

Yeah, this has 'hoax' written all over it. Someone else has also pointed out that Joss Whedon is unlikely to agree to such a project, given his misgivings about FOX.

I'm sorry everyone. I was just posting what I heard. CardCaptor Takato, you are far wrong! When I asked my friend's Japanese exchange student how BSSM is doing in Japan, she said it was EXTREMELY popular. And I think people from Japan would know what is popular in their own country. Sorry if I came out rude, I just don't like it when people post incorrect facts about BSSM. BTW, what is ANN?

I'm going to have to disagree with you, Cardcaptor Takato. Have you seen the huge amounts of merchandise sold after PGSM came out? Shitloads of random PGSM/BSSM shit thatw as manufactured and sold, and it wasn't like nobody bought any of it.
Sailor Moon may not be AS popular as it used to be, but it's still pretty damn well-known and popular. Old school fans like us still like to watch it and buy stuff affiliated with it.
And to say it's not popular at all in America? When I used to work retail a year ago, I had random parents asking me if my buttons were sailor moon (they were Chobits), and if so, where can they find the tapes for the ltitle girls becuase omfg they love the show. I still run into teens and such who watch it and love it. It's not dead. It's not as huge, but it's far from dead.
Honestly, I think this is a hoax. But we'll see. Like Starscream said, I hope it isn't so.
As for #1SailorMoonFan..^_^ don't apologize, hun. you're just trying to find out what's true.

Oh, OK, never mind then. Yeah, just picture Sailor Moon transforming, then hold that thought, and put Lindsy Lohan's face on SM's body! *shudders* Yeah, thank god for Japanese exchange students!!! Not to go too off-topic, but Tiff, when you said "^_^" was that referring to my name? Just wondering. BTW, do you call guys AND girls Hun? Sorry to go off-topic.

Yeah, I don't mind Lindsy Lohan as an actress in general, but picturing her as sailor moon just..doesn't work for me.#1SailorMoonFan wrote:Oh, OK, never mind then. The "^_^" was aimed at you, yes, to let you know that it was okay and you didn't need to apologize.
Yes, I call just about anyone "Hun". It's meant to affectionate, not condescending.

Yeah, there was a lot of PGSM merchandise back when it first came out, but one of my online friends is in Japan right now and he said he can't find barely any Sailor Moon merchandise at all, unless you go to like a specialty anime store or order online or something, and even then he said it's mostly only PGSM-related merchandise, but he can easily find tons of Pretty Cure merchandise all over the place. While Sailor Moon probably still has a lot of fans in America, it seems to mostly be popular only for nostalgia, but then again, a lot of live-action versions of children's cartoons were made because of nostalgia, like Garfield, Josie and the Pussycats, and Scooby-Doo, and Sailor Moon was a pretty big '90s pop culture icon, but I still doubt that this rumor is true.Tiff wrote:I'm going to have to disagree with you, Cardcaptor Takato. Just a few years ago there was a rumor that Fox was going to produce a live-action version of DBZ that was proven to be false (wasn't it the same magazine that supposedly is reporting this rumor abour Sailor Moon that "reported" the rumor about DBZ? Is Animage even a real magazine?), and why is it that whenever a live-action version of an anime is rumored to be in the works, it's always Fox that's rumored to be producing it? You'd think Disney would be a better candidate to produce a live-action version of Sailor Moon, since doesn't Disney own Dic now? And Sailor Moon was a Dic property, after all....Btw, wasn't Disney trying to produce their own live-action version of Sailor Moon back in the mid-'90s? I remember reading that it was supposed to star Melissa Joan Heart as Sailor Moon and Genna Davis as Queen Beryl, but the project fell through or something. Of course, it was the SOS where I read about it, so who knows if it was really true or not. And Tiff-san has Chobits buttons? *is jealous*

CT, I am not getting your point. So what about the merchandise thing? Like I said, the show is getting old. That doesn't mean it's getting unpopular. My friend's Japanese exchange student said BSSM is very popular. Very popular with younger kids. What does that mean? It means that a new generation of BSSM is starting. It is still going very strong. And I believe it will go strong for many years. Any reason why I think that? Because I like to call BSSM "The Mother of Magical Girl Animé".

The Dragon Ball Z thing was reported false? I thought it was just a project that fell through. And I believe Animage IS a real magazine, infact I think I have a few issues..Just a few years ago there was a rumor that Fox was going to produce a live-action version of DBZ that was proven to be false (wasn't it the same magazine that supposedly is reporting this rumor abour Sailor Moon that "reported" the rumor about DBZ? And I remeber hearing about an American Sailor Moon movie by Disney a few years ago too, although I think I did hear if from SOS.
I highly disagree with this statement, mainly because I've seen other mahou shoujo series have more of an impact on the genre.#1SailorMoonFan wrote:Because I like to call BSSM "The Mother of Magical Girl Animé".

I believe I mention these in the Magical Girl Thread...#1SailorMoonFan wrote:Could you name some shows and post some examples
Hitmitsu no Akko-chan- First Magical Girl, started it all, introduced magical items being used.
Sally The Witch- First Magical Girl anime, really kicked off the genre.
Cutie Honey- First Warrior Magical Girl, first magical girl series for boys, invented the nude transformation
Majokko Megu- First modern magical girl, introduce ecchi themes in shoujo anime, introduce arch rival
The list goes on really. If I had to pick the "mother of magical girls", I guess I'd say Sally The Witch. Although personally I think Cutie Honey had quite an impact on Magical girls (Sailor Moon, especially) but maybe that's just my Cutie Honey random talking.

Bunch of shows
Hmmmmmmmmm...ok...you win. But still, BSSM did influence quite a bit.

Honestly, the only series I see Sailor Moon influencing is problemly Tokyo Mew Mew, Magical Doremi, Witchand Winx Club. And of course parodies like Papillon Rose.#1SailorMoonFan wrote:Bunch of shows

EDIT:
Sorry, I only know about the dub which is known as Magical Doremi.(BTW, it's Ojamajo Doremi!)
