Sailor Classic Episodes 45 & 46

Post by SailorMoonFan » Thu Jun 15, 2006 4:19 pm

A few week ago I've downloaded Sailor Moon Classic episodes 45 & 46 of the original SM series. It's waaaaaaay better than the Dubbed version. It's just ridicious how DIC butchered these two episodes and made it into one like that. Even though the battle between Princess Serentity & Queen Beryl isn't my favorite battle in the series it's certainly one of the battles that is memorable though. There are lots of episodes from the Classic Arc that I like too--especially the beginning episodes because we are introduced to the Sailor Soldiers. One thing that I like what the original Japanese SM series did was in the 1st episode Luna tells Usagi the first 2 missions and one was to find the Princess. In the Dubbed version there is no mention of finding the Princess until later on in the series.

I agree SailorMoonFan the original is far better, except for one scene which I prefer the dub. The epilogue, after Usagi has woken up and begins her "normal" life. I think that the dub was a bit better, especially the final exchange between Serena and Darien
Favorite Senshi: Saturn and Jupiter
If I had a Henshin phrase it would be: Dragon Master Power! Armor Up!

A shrine without girls is like Miso Soup without the Miso - Grandpa Hino
The human body can be drained of blood in 8 seconds given adequate vaccuuming systems - River - Firefly

Does anyone own the OFFICIAL ADV release of Sailor Moon Seasons 1 & 2? If so can you please do me a little favor? In Episode 10 (in the original Japanese episode) called Cursed Buses! Fire Warrior Mars Appears can anyone give me a few lines of dialogue from the beginning of the film? Probably like 2-3 lines only verbatim (word for word)? I'm trying to compare something? Also I have one more question. When Rei confronts Jedite at her Shrine and knows that he is the one behind the busses disappearing on your ADV DVD does Rei say "Show me who you are!"

I'm only going to ask this question once: When the Sailor Moon episodes are translated, are they translated very accurately? Sure some words will change and that is what translation is about but surely these translations in the subtitles are much more close to the original films than what DIC or Cloverway gave us, right? And my last question is are these translations translated by someone who is professional?

Thank you very much and I really appreciate it. Sorry that the post was a bit long :D

On the preview of the episode Usagi says:
"It's unforgivable, unforgivable!
What is it that's unforgivable?
It's unforgivable when someone kidnaps girls who are praying for love.
Until the day everyone's wishes for safety and finding love comes true...
In the name of the moon, Sailor Moon will punish you!"

And yes, Rei says "Show me who you are!" to Jadeite.

The ADV translation isn't the best. The important things are kept pretty good but there are some lines and words that are changed.
For example "Moon Stick = Crescent Moon Wand (DiC name)".
They are, of course, better than DiC's and Cloverway though.
When Toei sent the scripts to all countries they were translated into English that was hard to understand, many countries tried their best to translate and many did a good job. DiC however, thought it was too hard so they just took the important things out and then threw it away and came up with the rest by themselves.

I don't know if they were translated by someone professional though, my guess is no.

Okay, how do I say this? Um, okay: The first season is definately my favorite season of them all. Why? Because it's the first to ever appear and one has sentimental feelings while watching it. It is further the only season where I've cried all the time. Really, tears were ALWAYS gushing out, I couldn't help it.

My favorite episodes... it's really hard to tell, since I like them all for the most part (even the fillers =D).
I think episode number 3 was very romantic, the same goes for episode 6. They were well drawn (I liked this style much more than the one in, for example 11). I guess number 6 contained much more action, so it never got boring. Then there's episode 24 which was really heartwrenching (of course I cried a lot xD;;). And the last two episodes especially got to me. ;_; Every senshi dying, the bgm and such... Yes, season 1 had its shining moments and was much more intense, even more than Sailor Stars.

And, in conclusion, I must say: Am I REALLY the ONLY one to like Jadeite? Because it seems to me, that nobody likes him. I'm having a hard time, you see? o__x But... that would be off topic, so...
Anyways, my favorite episodes in general include numbers 1-13 ^^°

Nah, I love Jadeite too. I love his style of collecting energy, he goes for the really big masses of people, it may be less smart but definately more effective.

Also in the original SM Classics Jadeite lasts a little longer than he does in the DIC dubs due to a few episodes that they cut with him in it. The dubs took out the scenes when Jadeite would hold out his hands collecting the energy--it looked as if he was holding out his middle finger on the screen. DIC cut out some of the best stuff.

I totally agree with both of you ^^ The reason why they cut it seems, no, IS really odd xD. Or maybe seems is the right word, because not many people could ever understand DiC for cutting stuff ;P (they sure are weird when it comes to cuts and scene alterations)

Well, I really like him, but he doesn't have as much fans as every other character in the Sailor Moon series. At least, I think ^^°

I like Jadeite. He was cool. He's just not as good as the other four generals...

I have seen the first 5 or 6 episodes of the first season of SM Classics and I have to say that they are way better than the DIC episodes. What makes it better is that the original music is in and it makes the episodes even better. Also DIC made a bad mistake by cutting out a few of the first few SM Classic episodes. For example they cut out the 2nd episode and they even cut out the episode when Luna is accepted into the Tsuskino household.

Kasumi you said that Sailor Moon Classic is more intense then Sailor Stars. Could you explain that for a bit because what you said sounds very interesting so could you elaborate more on that? Thanks!

I was sorta glad about that. We got to see the other senshi faster but we missed out on SM slowly maturing.

Yes, it's too bad that they cut whole episodes (hey, it's not that our poor children will behave rudely because of such small completely harmless scenes. The youth nowadays is much harder to impress, even our really young ones (at least in my country, they already use a**hole and other bad words, so what's the problem?)
But I found the DiC dub to be quite amusing and in some aspects, even funny and well done. (the music wasn't all too bad, the songs really rocked my socks!) But that's just me ^^
All in all, I enjoyed both versions of Sailor Moon Classic (many voices were pleasing my ears, some made them bleed, but that was the sheer minority)

I hope everyone understands my poor English :( In tests, I seem to know what to write, but it's completely different when I'm posting in a forum ^^°

EDIT: Hey, sorry for having not seen SailorMoonFans question about why Sailor Moon Classic would be more intense than the final season.
Okay, I'm not good at explaining, but it just felt much worse in the first season. The reason why this is so, in my opinion, in Sailor Stars, it just felt way too cheesy. Sailor Moon naked, flying towards Galaxia with the message of love... it just didn't appeal to me. In Classic, the atmosphere during the fight between Beryl and Sailor Moon was quite different.
But, as I already said, I can't explain it better than this, sorry ^^°

DIC vs. original Sailor Moon music

Post by SailorMoonFan » Tue Jun 27, 2006 12:36 pm

I think the songs that DIC placed in the Sailor Moon dubs became very repetitive and during the whole Classic season it was repetitive and when SMR came the songs were still the same. Even when Usagi received her new transformation from Moon Prism Power Makeup! to Moon Crystal Power Makeup! the transformation music was still the same and when Cloverway did Sailor Moon S, we hear new transformation music which was suppose to be heard all throughout SMR. Many people would say that the original music sounds TOO disco but even if it did I still like it.

Kasami, I wrote a message in the PM (private message) so look at that and respond when you can. We can continue the conversation in there since we can't chat back & forth on the main post.

I think the Classic ending was more intense because the senshi actually fought back as opposed to being knocked off like they were lined up in front of a firing squad. Usagi was a lot less skilled during the classic and suddenly she finds herself alone with out her senshi. And when Usagi had to fight Mamour, the one person she loved, and finally restores his memories only to have him be killed by Beryl a few seconds later.

Usagi had to face Beryl alone. At the end of stars she atleast had the starlights so there wasnt that hopeless feeling. I really liked her attitude change when she was fighting Beryl, she just seemed so confident. Then her friends spirits came to help her, but when Beryl was killed they all disappeared.

There were also the battles with Kunzite which scared me when I was younger.

All the villians in this season were actually serious too. They didnt need pretty flashy outfits and be used for comic relief. No they actually seemed to care about getting the job done. The villians in SS and Stars, and to some extent S, came off as more of a joke.

Wow, I never really thought about that. The villains in the Classic season was serious--never any funny business. There was more comic relief with Usagi and her friends in the 1st season but the villains including Queen Beryl wanted the job done. The three seasons that you just listed, yep, the villains do come across as a joke in some areas and there was more humor with them instead of the darkness & seriousness that Queen Beryl and her villains displayed. Good observation Rin. :D

Lol, ^^ Actually I noticed this too and it was one of my major gripes that I didn't like these seasons as much as the first one. *nod nod*

Somehow, I knew you were going to say that.
Well, I don't know about the other kings, but Jediate was sexist. xD; See the episode where he died (original. Dunno how it went in the dub.)

Yes, Jedite was sexist and it's more obvious in the original than in the DIC dub. In the dub they dumbed it down but I think it's implied but still a little obvious.
