Amy's 2nd dub voice!!!

Post by dubfan2006 » Sat Feb 18, 2006 3:02 am

As many of you are probably aware, I am one of the ones who love the dub and don't like the original. The one thing I can't stand about the dub is Amy's CWI voice - it is just terrible! She can't act and sounds like she is just learning how to speak English. Anyone agree?

I just think Amy's second dub voice was trying way too hard, you know, to try and retain the sound of her first dub voice. But alas, like I said, she tried WAY too hard. Her voice was just too forced for the ears to stand, in my opinion.

Plus they snuck in the Evil Valley Girl Slang in her script.... Seriously, Amy isn't the type of girl who says "That is totally uncool!" in a bad situation... Is she? T__T

I'm probably the only one here who will say this, but personally, I hated her first dub voice. I thought the second one fit her better, except for the Valley Girl Slang they threw in. I also could have done without that. Otherwise I thought it was pretty good.

I actually like it too. I can kind of imitate it, or at least, I think I used to, and then I ended up messing up the voice. It kind of sounds like an American accent crossed with an English one, right?

Pardon me for going Mod-like, but shouldn't this be discussed in one of the dub topics? It's kind of pointless for this to have it's on topic - there's only so much you can discuss on it.

So maybe a Mod could merge it or something? Or maybe I'm just seeing this all the wrong way and I'll get thumped by Tiff. :P

Well there really isn't a topic like this. There is "Decent Dub VAs", but that topic is for ones you like not "which do you perfer over the other". Nothing like a general dicussion for a topic like this. I just thumbed through the entire Sailor Moon catagory for a topic to merge this one to with nothing similar. I could have missed it, though.

I *personally* don't see a reason to merge, but if one of the other mods/admins see fit to merge this with another topic ('m not sure which it would be murged to other than Decent Dub VAs) then I'm all for it.
/mod

I kind of liked both.
I got used to Amy's voice watching the dub. In fact I liked her VA a lot. The voice talent in the newer dubs was a bit of a shock to the system, but it eventually grew on me. Comparing the two I'd have to say I liked the first one better, but I can't say I hated the second one, either.
And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

-_- What I wanna know is why it's always me.

And as for Amy's dubbed voices...I didn't like either one. I can't stand randomly placed accents.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I liked both of Ami's dubbed voices, the second voice was better to me.

Don't worry Tempest. You instill fear in my weak little heart

*fear luves <3*

I didn't like Amy's second voice either, I thought her acting was bad, but I'm not going to blame her for it because she clearly had no acting experience before doing Sailormoon. I think the casting director is more to blame. As for the first one, to this day I still can't hear her British accent. Everyone says they can hear it, but I can't. And I love British accents so you'd think me of all people would hear it, but I can't. I'm broken T__T

Don't worry, there's enough of my fear of getting thumped to go around. XD

Okey doke, to stay on topic here-

I loved Amy's first voice - it was that perfect mixture of British and American accents, without sounding too stuck up and bitchy. (Like they did with Mint's dub voice in Tokyo Mew Mew)
But then the second voice came along and tried to emulate something that was already perfect, thus ruining the whole thing. I kept waiting to hear Ami's first voice when she spoke, and instead this...this other voice came out. ><

Once I got used to it, I actually preferred the second voice. I thought it had a sweeter, more naive quality to it. ^^

I think if she didn't try so hard to be like the old dub voice like the new dub voice for serena she'd come out sounding very good as a amy. I mean Amy could bare to loose the british accent. And besides it sounds as bad as serena's new voice. If they don't force it it sounds a lot better. Because I've heard Amy when she doesn't try to hard and it actually sounds nice. But when she adds in the valley girl and the british accent it just sounds wrong. It's like when the new serena makes those yodelling noises and that same "VOICE" the old one had. It sounds wrong unnaturaly and awful. It makes the ear bleed. Ami and serena are 15 they shouldn't sound like 40 year old women

I don't really like either VAs. Amy's first dub VA was ok but her British accent really didn't fit the character at all and there were times where they made her sound really snobby. But her second VA wasn't any better mainly because she just couldn't act. Of course, she also didn't have any prior acting experience to this role, but I still couldn't stand it. She tried too hard to sound like the old VA but it just comes across as sounding really weird and unnatural. If she would just speak naturally along with all of Cloverway's other replacement VAs, she could've been decent enough, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

I really didn't like both voices, but I heard somewhere that Terri Hawkes did Amy's voice for the R movie. Can someone confirm that for me?

(sorry, that kind of seems off topic.)

no it wasn't it was the same voice actress. But either one was just as bad. Terri Hawkes was good up until she starts her yodelling and odd slang.

I was actually surprised to hear that either voice was supposedly an attempt at a British accent. It's approximatle 170 years out of date and actually has a lot of twinges from the other side of the Atlantic.

I prefered Ami's first dub voice, but that might be because I grew up with it and didnt hear the 2nd one till yesterday when I decided to see what the dub of S was like.

Ami's 2nd voice is okay, its easier on the ears than Haruka's dub voice, especially in episode 119 when they talk about Hotaru being the Senshi of Silence

I thought Amy's second dub voice made her sound like an airhead expecially when she says "Shine Aqua ILLUsion!"
