This isn't the place for this topic. The member's Bulletin board is for member announcements. The 'Sailor Moon' section is where this is supposed to go, if indeed you are referencing Sailor Moon.

As for the show being taken off, I guess it was due to poor ratings. To be perfectly honest, Sailormoon never had a chance competing with Dragonball Z, which did phenomenal in comparison to a lot of the cartoons being aired at the time. Given the selection of shows currently on Cartoon Network, Sailormoon doesn't have a place there anymore. It lacks the specific range of 'action' that CN favors in anime. Sailormoon will always be remembered, especially since it's still continued to be parodied even today, but as for a ratings competitor, it'll never do well. Not now, anyway.

Plus the series is technically unlicensed too. ADV's part (bought from DiC) expired long ago, and I'm presuming Geneon's part also has since expired. And Toei's R1 DVD experiment was a complete and total failure, which complicates things a lot more.

Plus I think Toei will push Pretty Cure before relaunching SM stateside. It's going to be awhile before SM even makes it to the store's shelves (with the exception of whatever is left in stock), much less return to the airwaves.

X_x I keep forgetting about the expired license.

"Expired License"? I'm sorry, but I was almost 9 years old when it was taken off, so I have no idea about this license.

Basically, the license that ADV (the company which released the DVDs and such) had on Sailor Moon expired already, and it hasn't been renewed. This basically means that the chances of it coming back on the air are pretty damn slim.

You know that feeling that you get making you wish you could do something to turn something around? Well I'm getting that right now, and I'm getting fxxcking pissed. And those those Sailor Moon music videos I see online just aren't enough!

Any ideas as to why they won't renew the lisence?

This might be pure speculation on my part - based on what I've managed to glean about the situation as indicated here - but I believe the reason is that either TOEI does not want anyone in the US to have the license, or that no one is interested in obtaining it at the moment. The reasonings for the former are simple; TOEI did not want the US' perception of the show - that as a program aimed toward young girls - to be altered by allowing a licensee to air the program without edits; based on what's been shown in S and SailorStars, having an edit-free Sailor Moon would mean that the target demographic in the US would have to be an older audience, perhaps delegating the show to air late-night on Toonami or even Adult Swim.

If it's the latter case, my only hypothesis is that US licensees do not want to deal with TOEI, who have become somewhat difficult to work with in recent years, especially with foreign licensing companies. Again, however, my ideas above are pure speculation, and might not represent the full story behind this. Aya Reiko also proports a good idea; that TOEI might want to try with Pretty Cure first, testing the waters in the US before deciding whether or not to allow Sailor Moon to come back to the US.

Also to add on to what Dave said, Toei has begun releasing their work to this side of the ocean themselves, and seemingly plans to do that with all their shows that have yet to be licensed, licenses are expiring, or are expired due to this interest. Sailormoon falls into this catergory right now, and is far from the only show. They did the same thing with Saint Seiya, not letting ADV renew their license or finish the series off because of it, and that came straight out of the mouth of one of the higher ups of ADV.

You know, SM is available on DVD (subbed or dubbed) in America if you want to see it that bad. But I understand your feelings about it being taken off the air. I'm just glad that I managed to catch a marathon of all the episodes about a week before the channel that was showing it got taken off Foxtel. Yay for Australian cable!

But the DVDs have been out of print for, I think, at least a year now (probably more) so it's going to be hard to find them.

That's true, if your lucky, you might find them in local comic book stores or on Ebay.

And as I pointed out earlier, Toei's DVD experiment was a total failure. Volume 3 of Air Master came out in May and Volume 4 of Slam Dunk came out in June. And no timetable has been set for any additional volumes of either series. (AOD jokingly has the release dates for both Vol. 4 of AM and Vol. 5 of SD as 12/12/2012.) Ever since Toei halted their R1 releases in June, they have been absolutely silent. The future looks very, very grim for any anime series from Toei.

Perhap this is a good thing, though, given how substandard their releases were.

I'm never lucky. So I'm not likely to find one though. Plus Ebay charges too much money for anything. I bet that they'd charge like 2k for a bent amusement park coin that has lost it's value.

>< Sorry guys, didn't realise! *has been reading old posts about the DVD's being available* I should really research things before I say them, no?

Ah well, I guess I was lucky to get my SMS dvd's then, and extra lucky to find that an Anime store here in Sydney imports them from America. Very, very pricey though.

If it's that pricey then I wouldn't be able to get one, no matter how much I beg my parents.

Ah, but it's far more pricey over here in Australia because I got the American import, which kept it's original American price PLUS all the shipping.

I bet you might be able to find a store that can still order it in for you - they might have a couple of copies left over in their factories, but the odds are slim.

But, be optimistic - you never know what will happen!
