No one really cared. Like my parents...they pay for my anime/manga obsession.
My mom thinks that me liking Sailor Moon is a sickness though. She says that's the reason why I have an attitude problem. But then...my mom is insane. -_- My dad is cool with it. He's like, "Whatever you want. It's only Sailor Moon. It's not drugs." Lmfao. School was cool. LoL. At Halloween I would see some girls dressed up as Sailor Moon and sometimes I would see girls walking around with a SM backpack. In my senior year, I saw this girl walking around with the cutest Sailor V tote EVER! I actually contemplated stealing it from her. Hehehe.
But two of my four closest friends enjoy making fun of me of it. Whatever. Don't care.

I feel so sorry for a lot of you. ;-; Well, most people here have no idea who Sailor Moon is, but just bring me ONE GIRL who's NEVER watched Doraemon, Tama and Friends, Hamtaro, Chibi Maruko-chan, or some other children's anime at some point in their lives and I'll be AMAZED.
Pretty much everyone here grew up on (dubbed) anime. ^^;;
My dad has no idea what Sailor Moon is, but he knows I like it. xD

most people think it's ultra-cute when they find out for some reason . . . i guess because i'm not a normally "happy fluffy" kind of person. and i dislike most other anime so most of my friends (who are anime fans; anime is very popular among teens in my city right now!) are like "haw haw, you do like anime, even if it is the crappiest anime ever made"
well id ont care; sailor moon is more like an american cartoon than any other anime i've seen.

No one really said anything when I told them. I don't overdo my hobby for it, so it's not really a big deal.

Hmm....i have a couple of friends who are all "YAY Sailor Moon!! =D" like me. But since I moved this summer, they're not in mah town anymore..
On a side note, anime is super-popular at my high school, and the people in anime club generally gave me one of the following reactions when I told them my favorite anime (and note that these are kids who have seen nothing but Naruto and FullMetal Alchemist):
1) ".....*giggle-snort*.......Sailor....Moon???.....'PLANET POWER GOOO!!!!!!'.....*point and laugh*"
2) "EW SAILOR MOON SUCKED ITS SO OLD I HATE SAILOR MOON"
3) "Awww, you watch Sailor Moon?? *wistful sigh* I used to love that show......"
......yeah.

Tell your Anti-SM friends next time that if not for SAILOR MOON, anime would have never gained great success.jam-chan wrote:Hmm....i have a couple of friends who are all "YAY Sailor Moon!! =D" like me. But since I moved this summer, they're not in mah town anymore..

Sailor moon helped, but it wasn't the only show. I think Dragonball played a big part in anime's success, as well as some other now less popular anime (like Samurai Pizza Cats and what not).Tell your Anti-SM friends next time that if not for SAILOR MOON, anime would have never gained great success.

Nope I don't think so, I know a lot of places who hardly know that DB anime , and Sailor Moon is the biggest hit their. and besides it's SailorMoon which got aired first in US right, which just shows you who the better one is. Sailor moon is not the first anime ever aired on television. Voltron, Speed Racer, Megaman and several others aired during the 70's and 80's. People were into anime before Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon came out only a year before Dragon Ball Z, and wasn't nearly as popular for a long time.Actually, Sailor Moon was first aired in late 1995, and then stopped airing in 1996. It did not air again until 1997. By then, DBZ had already been out a year. So it's not like Sailor Moon came years before DBZ.sailor_mask1 wrote: Nope I don't think so, I know a lot of places who hardly know that DB anime , and Sailor Moon is the biggest hit their. and besides it's SailorMoon which got aired first in US right, which just shows you who the better one is. I find it very hard to believe that hardly anybody near you know what Dragon Ball Z is. That's just nonsensical.
Regardless of what you like to think, Sailor Moon is NOT the only reason anime is popular. Did it help? Sure. But it's not what made anime big. If anything, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim themselves had more of an effect than anything, by putting shows such as DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, InuYasha, and many more on their programming.

Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

I just looked it up and the dubbed Samurai Pizza Cats aired in 1990 (that probably makes it the first anime I watched 0__o) and I'm pretty sure that the regular Dragonball (when Goku was a kid) episodes aired before Sailormoon, if not at the same time.

To add to that, YTV did the same thing in Canada, around the same time, when it aired a block of anime shows weekdays right after school, non of which were Sailormoon (it usually aired during school hours). If anything, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim themselves had more of an effect than anything, by putting shows such as DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, InuYasha, and many more on their programming.

Not to mention that Sailor Moon and DBZ are really just what brought anime to my generation and the one directly preceding it. For a lot of people, including my mom (!), anime has always been part of their lives with shows like AstroBoy, Voltron, Speed Racer, etc and they never really thought much of it. Anime has actually been popular underground for a really long time too, since like the seventies. The birth of Usenet helped that a lot.
It's only recently come to the mainstream, so a lot of kids nowadays are like, self-styled experts and think they know everything about anime just because they watch InuYasha and crap like that. But believe me, there's a long history of anime's popularity. Sailor Moon was one of the immediate causes, as we say in history class, but there were many underlying factors leading to that. (For example, Sailor Moon could never have come to the US without shows like Dragon Ball, AstroBoy, the movie Akira, etc.)

A lot of good points have been brought up...now let's get back to the original topic, please.

Edit: ^^; Oops, sorry Tiff, I'm a slow typer *whacks self with off topic stick*
My dad was telling me how he used to watch a cartoon called Kimba the White Lion or something when he was a kid and only now realized it was anime. And if a show like that can reach a small little T.V. up North, out in the middle of no where, on one of it's three channels, I think it's safe to say that it also contributed to making anime popular. For a lot of people, including my mom (!), anime has always been part of their lives with shows like AstroBoy, Voltron, Speed Racer, etc
And that's putting it lightly. I've witnessed many a fanboy who believed he had Japan's entire history down after watching a couple seasons of Inuyasha.so a lot of kids nowadays are like, self-styled experts and think they know everything about anime just because they watch InuYasha and crap like that.

In my family, no one really knows I like Sailor Moon except for my momma. At first she hated it, but eventually she didn't complain about it anymore. (I caught her watching one of my dub R DVDs when I was watching it once. She said she was getting into it.) As for people at school, I really don't tell people unless they like anime too or they're my friends. They're pretty cool with it and I've never been picked on about it.
