Michiru's Flaws
Michiru Kaiou is perfect. Or is she? What kinds of flaws can you see in this elegant violinist?
I actually can find a few:
1) She follows whatever Haruka says, and gets her way through teasing and witty comments. While it makes her sound cute and refined, that's not always the best way to get control in a situation.
2) Her elegance doesn't seem quite natural; maybe she has a mask and will one day crack?
3) In the episode about her and Haruka's past, we hear a student talking about her not being very friendly. Maybe she only seems more friendly to us since we see her with people she knows better? Maybe to others she comes across as cold and stiff?

I don't think Michiru follows whatever Haruka says. In fact, she often ignores Haruka's instructions. She and Haruka remind us in several episodes that should one of them fall, the other would go on and carry out their mission. Sailor Neptune goes against their agreement in at least two instances (The Cathedral episode and an episode in which Moon and Uranus are bonded together by metal bracelets). That in itself could be considered a flaw though. She justifies trying to kill Hotaru with the philosophy that if the world would be saved because of it, an innocent should die rather than millions. However she goes against this philosophy when she tries to help Haruka.

isn't this kinda of a bad post? I mean why concentrate on character flaws? EVERYONE has them, whether fake or real.

I always considered Ami to be more perfect than Michiru. ::shrug:: In all the episodes that Ami gets, she finds another thing to excel at, whether it be chess or working on cars.
But that's beside the point ^^; Michiru can be a bit vain sometimes. Why is it that none of the other senshi get picked on for having "no flaws" or something? I don't see any less flaws in Michiru than Setsuna and god knows who else.
Except, Jeff, Hotaru really wasn't an innocent. Either way, Hotaru would have died. One option was that she would have been eliminated for the sake of saving the world, and the other was that the world would end. I'm guessing Hotaru would have gone with it.

I think this is alright provided that it doesn't go into a bash-fest, such as the "I hate Ami" topics on the last forum. As long as this topic remains civilized I don't think it will be locked.writergirl wrote:isn't this kinda of a bad post? I mean why concentrate on character flaws? And really, why shouldn't we be afraid? In case you haven't heard, life is terminal. Cigarettes will kill you. So will your cellphone. Your car is a deadly weapon and alcohol is a quiet killer. Don't lick the lead-based paint on the walls. Don't lick the back of a postage stamp and certainly don't lick any strangers! That will bring you down quickly indeed. Don't drink the water but don't drink less than eight glasses a day. Your enviroment is toxic, your natural resources are dwindling, your days are numbered, but what ever you do, don't panic! The stress, don't you know, will kill you.

I started the topic because many people do seem to think that Michiru is perfect, or else they say that she's got flaws but then they don't name WHAT they think her flaws are. Naming her flaws isn't the same as saying one dislikes her, one can still like a character for their flaws. I often find that I like my favorites FOR their flaws, actually.
Hmm, maybe Setsuna should be included in the topic too? I was going to say "Michiru and the SailorStars Hotaru" but since Hotaru is shown so little in SailorStars, maybe they only showed the times she acted more "perfect."
As for Ami, I was more referring to personality flaws, which she has. I know that Michiru being talented doesn't mean that she has a perfect personality.
Finally, Setsuna, the other one that often seems overly perfect. I'm not quite sure what her flaws are, actually. She seems almost too good to be real, sometimes.

Setsuna...perfect? We hardly see enough of her to make that kind of judgment.

I can't really see the flaws in Michiru. She always has seems very flawless. Setsuna, I think, has a few flaws in the Manga. One of the reasons I think this is because if she uses the her Garnet Orb to stop time, she will die; just like she did in the battle against Prince Dimando. Setsuna in the Anime, however, I think is pretty much near perfect.

To me Michiru does come off a bit too devoted to Haruka like in the SuperS special. She says "A world without Haruka isn't worth living in." I understand she loves her but if she literally meant what she said, to me that's just a bit too much. She's also a flirt, but I don't know if that's necessarily a flaw
I noticed that manga Michiru is more "bubbly" than anime Michiru though.
Setsuna's not really perfect in the anime either IMO. I think she keeps too many things to herself. (kinda like me. hehe) I don't mean stuff about the future or whatever. I mean her feelings, ie: in the episode where she used Time Stop. She didn't say anything to Uranus and Neptune in the helicopter when they made a comment about "Saving the world no matter what the sacrifices are" . (or something to that effect) Right after she recalls Moon saying how she doesn't want to make any sacrifices and she won't allow it. Pluto just makes that recollection and says nothing to Uranus and Neptune.
Generally she seems somewhat "torn" between Chibi Moon, and the rest, and the outers in S. I don't think she really agreed with Uranus and Neptune being so cold to them. But she never says anything.

I have to agree. Michiru may not always be my favorite character, but I don't see why she's pointed out for having flaws moreso than any other character. So, a lot of people think she's perfect. And a lot of people think Ami's perfect, or Setsuna, or sailor scratchmyass. It's just a matter of opinion.Anthy wrote: Why is it that none of the other senshi get picked on for having "no flaws" or something? Bwah, in my own opinion, pick any character, and they have the "perfect" side and the "flaws" side. All characters have flaws in some way o.O (ask me which, I'll find them!)Tiff wrote:I have to agree. As I said, it's not just me. I don't think Michiru is perfect myself; in my first post in this topic, I mentioned some flaws I found in her. I was just wondering since many of her fans will say "She's got her flaws, but I just can't think of what they are right now."
Maybe the nature of the Outers' characters is that they're MEANT to be admired more than to be funny, and character flaws often are the funny parts?

I have to agree with most of you. Michiru, being my favorite character, is always a lot of fun to analyze, so....
~Yes, she can be pretty vain (in the manga, at least)
~Yes, she's practically eternally devoted to Haruka (and they share such a wonderful relationship *____*)
~Yes, she broke off her promise to Haruka---that they wouldn't try to save each other's lives on their Talisman mission---in order to save her life
~Yes, she excudes a perfect aura, which can turn people off, thinking that there's nothing beneath the surface
But, uhhh... heheh ^^;;;

I don't see her flirt that much. Haruka flirts about 10x as much as she does, from what I've seen. (Or maybe it's because Michiru's flirting is very subtle, but I could be wrong...)She's flirty, sometimes too much so.

Hmm.
Michiru: "Looking" perfect is a plain flaw to me. Make us see you do have flaws, dammit
what we find out is not what she shows, so it's basically more of a guess than a "real" flaw.
That's my opinion anyway... bwah, I don't even know what to say about her, since she's not my fave ^^;;;

I just realized something. Hotaru and Michiru are NOT perfect. In fact, none of the Outers are, since each of them has a food they don't like! A perfect person wouldn't have a least favorite food (unless it was something like alcohol) since they would like everything.
My "Accept the Outers, Rainbow" side of my brain is talking tonight, I think.
My opinion of them has a split personality, like Hotaru in S--sometimes my Outers-hating side is out, and then sometimes I like them.

She outright invites Seiya to help her undress in Sailor Stars. I consider that just a taaaad flirty.DistantMemory wrote:
