Where could an uncensored, uncut dubbed Stars go?

The amazing anime that this site is dedicated to.

I just got the SailorStars season on DVD and just seeing it, in my opinion there is NO WAY they would be able to air this on TV here in the U.S., not without majorly screwing it up with editing and cutting which would probably leave it at a final product making no sense what-so-ever.

Another 2 cents, I dont think they should bother airing it, they should jsut release it on DVD uncut, subtitled, like a lot of other anime series do. Besides, I can imagine only the hard core Moonies (like us) would really care about ever seeing the final season.

And I can tell you, so far so good! :-D

I'd like to see Geneon pick it up and give it the same kind of quality dub most of its series have... SM should have at least one season done right...

No, I don't. I just have local cable, and that would cost extra.

About it being on the International Channel, I had emailed them before about putting the live-action one on their channel and they said it's highly unlikely that they'll get it because the series is famous which means it will be very expensive to get. I'm guessing that their reply is directed towards the live-action as well as the anime.

There is an all anime channel that might come to the US. It's Japan's Animax. They're still planning if they should release it in America. And not to mention, Toei has merged with some American company and is putting out DVDs or something? I won't be surprised if Sailor Stars was released onto DVD/TV (or both) sometime in the next few years.

Not merged, but signed a contract with Geneon for distribution of their titles on this side of the ocean. So essentially they're entering into the R1 DVD market themselves with distribution help from Geneon. More info and such in that link. I predict a R1 Sailormoon rebirth in a few years.

I can see Stars getting an American liscense eventually...but shown on television? Not likely. Not because of the nudity(whoever said nudity isn't allowed on Adult Swim knows not what they speak of), but because of what is most likely the one reason it hasn't been liscensed for a DVD release yet: transgender issue. Now, as much as we all know(those of us who have seen Stars) how the story actually works, most people will not understand, much less someone who flips on the tv and sees a "cartoon" with men changing into women. It took awhile just for anyone in the general public to embrace the idea of "adult animation", but it's finally happened and it's pretty much more out there than ever.

Adult Swim is the main hope for it ever getting put on television, but I seriously don't ever see it happening. I can definitely see a DVD release in the near future though, because there are far worse things than men becoming women and naked flying highschool chicks in commercially released anime on DVD in America.

I also don't think Sailor Moon would air on Adult Swim because they mostly focus on airing shounen and mecha anime. If I remember correctly, Cartoon Network did say once that they wanted to air shoujo anime, but there was more demand for shounen anime than there was for shoujo. And even if there was more demand for shoujo anime, Sailor Moon would feel out of place to me on a block of programming like Adult Swim that's always aired only shounen/mecha anime in the past. It might even hurt the ratings of the series for it to air on Adult Swim.

Also, the English edited version of Sailor Moon used to air on the Cartoon Network. If some kids saw that new episodes of Sailor Moon were being broadcasted late night on Cartoon Network, they would probably get exicited, thinking it's going to be the same Sailor Moon they grew up with and start watching it. Then, imagine the parents surprise when they come in and see their kids watching new episodes of Sailor Moon aimed at an older audience.

actually i was just watching a fansub i dowloaded of the supers special and i noticed that harukas car had the steering wheel on the american side. although i know that's not what you're really talking about.

i have to agree about the dub tho. (even though I have yet to see the season). if the dubs already created are any indication it will ruin the integrety of the show. but if that is the only possible way it will come to R1 so be it.

Well, I've read through and this is what I have to say:
Chances are that Stars won't be dubbed, but my question is....the little boys and girls that saw Sailormoon as a kids show are in their teens, and the younger generation probably won't reconize it......so if they saw STARS on the prevoew channel, they probably wouldn't know.
However I don't know why Toei won't just let them release a R1 Boxset....they'd be making money off of it, isn't that what they want?
And regarding Sailormoon being a kids show, just look at the stream of Sailormoon merchandise, it's not aimed at 13+, Sailormoon was a show aimed at little girls, but like somebody above stated, it attracted many other viewers, and even if they DID dub stars, the Three Lights could be females. I know that's probably a bad idea, but all the girls screaming is no different than how Usagi on PGSM reacted to Minako. I'd personally die if thye painted a bikini of Sailormoon, if I were them I'd just cut the end power crap thing outta the R movie and out it in.....what? It's the same dress....and how would speeding through space affect the priginal scene?...........*Gyah...is sleep deprived*
Either way, Toi's just being stupid....I mean god forbid they release a boxset that they could make THOUSANDS off of.

The steering wheels on Japanese cars are on the left, or "American" side, but the cars are driven on the left side of the road.

I hope that Toei has some reason for pulling all of the NA SM rights other than the fact that the show is old.

Even if most of the kids who grew up watching DiC's English adaption of Sailor Moon would be teenagers now, there may be still a few kids who didn't start watching the series until after Cloverway started adapting Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Supers into English, which was just a few years ago, so they'd probably still be quite young. And even if those kids couldn't remember all the details about Sailor Moon, they'd still probably remember the name of the show and that it was a kid's cartoon, so if there were new episodes of Sailor Moon on TV, they'd be watching it expecting it to be a kid's show, wouldn't they?

The problem with making the Three Lights girls the entire time isn't just the thousand of fans screaming over them or Seiya's hitting on Usagi. They'd have to cut out a whole bunch of pointless stuff that was really quite "innocent" in the original Japanese version, just so they can fool dubbies into thinking the Three Lights are girls. For example, there's that episode where the Sailor Senshi go camping with Rei and her cousin, and the Three Lights are at the lake with the girls wearing their swimming trunks without a top on. How would the dubbing companies explain why the Three Lights don't have any breasts if they're girls?

Either they would have to cut out that entire scene (which would end up screwing up the plot of the rest of that episode) or end up skipping it entirely, even though there wasn't anything "bad" in it, just to fool the dubbies into thinking the Three Lights are girls. There are other things you'd have to deal with too, like the scene in the following episode where Chibi Chibi tries to pull off the towel Seiya's wearing, the episode where that little hospitalized girl blushes after meeting Taiki, not to mention the episode where that actress hits on Yaten, and the scene with the girl and the love letter. And with so many scenes you'd have to cut just to fool the dubbies, that makes the chances of keeping the original Japanese music pretty slim, and I know I wouldn't want to see "Sailor Stars Song" replaced with some cheesy song like "Carry On."

Carry On had an awesome melody as long as they changed the lyrics. How would cutting out those scenes affect the Japanese music? If Cloverway resumed their work, I'm sure they'd keep all of the music.

Maybe they can put this on the Anime Channel? I'm sure there would be no problems there. I'm not sure what things they allow and don't allow though. :D They're even going to start airing subbed anime starting February. And what of that Toei releasing DVDs in America? Hopefully they'll release Sailor Stars too so that they can do whatever they want with it instead of handing it to some company who will butcher it.

Toei should've stayed truer to the manga (where the Three Lights are female and that Seiya/Usagi thing never happened). Then this whole Three Lights/Starlights thing never would've happened and we'd probably have gotten Stars when we got S and SS...

Carry On did have a nice melody, but the lyrics were so cheesy that it made me gag. And if you cut out too much of those scenes, it might just screw up how the music sounds. Didn't this happen in one of the episodes of Sailor Moon S?
