Should I hide before we go way off-topic here?

Anyway, down here (Down Under), the chances of getting a dub of Stars done are only slightly better. We still regard cartoons as kiddie shows down here. Of course, there are the obvious exceptions on our Comedy Channel, but then again, the Comedy Channel is an adults-only channel.

and now for my comments on censorship...

"And, finally, here are some completely gratuitous pictures of penises to annoy the censors and to hopefully spark some sort of controversy, which, it seems, is the only way, these days, to get the jaded, video-sated public off their fucking arses and back in the sodding cinema! Family entertainment? Bollocks! What they want is filth: people doing things to each other with chainsaws during tupperware parties, babysitters being stabbed with knitting needles by gay presidential candidates, vigilante groups strangling chickens, armed bands of theatre critics exterminating mutant goats! Where's the fun in pictures?! Oh, well, there we are. Here's the theme music. Goodnight. "

10 points if you get the reference.

Is that from Monty Python? Or is an Australian-only show?

(serious again) I didn't know where it was from, but it sounded like Monty Python-type humor since I'm a Python fan.

Hmm, back on topic...maybe it could be released on video or DVD? I don't know about TV though, it would have to be highly edited and that would be work for the censors to have to cut stuff out well (I mean so it flows instead of LOOKING chopped-up).

Its a kids show??? wow, how weird, i could swear that this isn't TV-Y7 material... but Japan is alot different. if this is a kids show, whats an R rated movie like in Japan??? :?

I think this debate extends into personal rating systems and beliefs, it seems. Personally, I have no problem showing SailorStars (even the ending) to my 13-year old cousins (and their mom is okay with it) especially since naked Sailor Moon is like a naked Barbie doll. But, they ARE 13 and not younger, and for me it would be okay to show to any age that could understand the story, if it's okay with their parents.

Yes, but you aren't a mass-media company. They have to depend on ratings, whether soccer moms will froth at the mouth and threaten the company, and so forth. They are bound by sets of rules, guidelines and what the public would want or how they would react. I personally agree that Stars is not horrid material for a 13 year old, but it's not my call.

Soccer moms. That's exactly it, Tiff. I really think many things get censored in anime dubs or otherwise because the adults are afraid of those things.

No, I'm not a media company, but I can decide for myself what things the kids I know and are friends with might want to watch.

That's good that you have enough responsibility to decide what's good and not good for the kids you know to watch, but sadly, people like that are in the vocal minority. Soccer moms prefer to speak out against companies and the like rather than taking responsibility of their own kids, becoming the vocal majority, in which the companies will hear them since the responsible parents are actually doing their jobs and not speaking out at all. It's sad really, how so many things have to change in order to cater to parents who can't take the responsibility of taking care of their own kids.

Yep. Many times, it's the adults who can't handle it, rather than their kids. 9 times out of 10, kids see more things in school than their parents let them see on TV.

And no, I understand that, Rainbow. I was making a point that companies have to make these types of decisions whether they want to or not. They don't always have the choices we have as individuals.

::Nods:: Thats so true. About 3 years ago when Perfect Dark (N64 Game) came out, my mom didn't want me to get it because she said "You might get a gun and start shooting people and say 'but mom, iits just Perfect Dark'" I was like O_o are you serious?! Not only was there an OVER EXAGGERATION. I would personally give Sailorstars a 14+ rating to the public mainly because theres some losers taht cant handle mature themes... SOme kids in my Art class burst out lauging at Michael Angelo's King David statue (I'm an 8th grader) and started amking jokes. I mean Puh-lease... its not like they've never seen a penis before... some people are so immature

I think, If it's true that Disney or DiC might get Sailor Stars, That ABC would be the one to put Sailor Stars on.

First, Disney nor DiC would make it uncut or uncensored. Second, uncut and uncensored Sailor Stars would be far too inappropiate for an ABC timeslot.

I don't think we'll ever get an uncensored, uncut SailorStars dub. Not only does Toei animation NOT want to ship Stars over, it would get ruined. See, the fanbase for the dub in America is higher than for the sub. If they release a dub, and all of a sudden "Serena" is "Usagi" and "Darien" is "Mamoru" then people are going to get confused. They won't want to keep buying it because its not the series they like. Also, people don't take Sailor Moon seriously. The movie channels wouldn't show it. That'd be like showing the Digimon movie on Encore. It wouldn't be taken seriously enough to be marketable.
actually the only probvlem is the nudity because most ppl that watch sailor moon will know that serena is usagi and darien mamoru.

Soccer Moms will be the end of this country. so will warmongers. We don't need to *slaps self* do not start ranting, do NOT start ranting...

Either way, I do NOT think that anyone could get Stars and make it so purists would be happy, unless they released subbed DVDs. those, "Uncut" DVDs only have cut scenes, still the horrid lines and crap voices. If they tried, they would most likely confuse 95% of the viewers because of the storyline. Because if people are changing gender, so they make the Starlights ONLY girls, why would Minako-chan, Rei-chan, Mako-chan, and Ami-chan be going nuts over them? So suddenly all the Inner Senshi are lesbians? and Seiya, how the HELL would they cover that? They change all the Starlights to men then, you have MALE Sailor Senshi, sure, Mamoru. Mamoru on the other hand, is NOT a Sailor Senshi. and what they would do on the Animamate's death scenes... what, "NO! Don't take my bracelets! if you take them I'll go into eternal sleep/another dimension!" it won't be traumatising if characters die. hell... if you get nuts about that, you will be keeping kids from seeing VERY good movies and books: Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, FINDING NEMO: if death is evil, than Pixar was insane making Coral and all but one eggs get eaten, Bambi, Lion King, etc... and don't put things that are R-rated, because those don't count. The thing is, that death scenes can add to the personalities of characters. Luke Skywalker was still guided from Obi-wan sacrificing himself. In Finding Nemo, the father's overprotectiveness came from all he loved but that one egg getting eaten. In the Lion King, after Simba's father was killed in the stampede of antelope/gazelle, he had to go on by himself. that lead to his leadership abalities.

Death in movies and anime is not horrible, it can lead to much more character-developing.

I don't think the death would be that much of an issue... the Starlights are the real problem (¬.¬ though they wouldn't be if Toei had left them like they were in the manga...)

And the best option would probably be to do what was done with Saint Seiya and have an entirely different dub to air on TV than is on the DVDs.
