Rini's Picture Diary

Post by Tarkan Atilla22 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 7:41 pm

I was reading the SM English manga #11, and I read the "Rini's Picture Diary" section of the manga. And it made me think: They (DiC) should have made these into 'episodes', or even a series entirely their own!

Too bad DiC no longer has a contract to SM.

DiC didn't make the original Sailor Moon. It was originally a Japanese show made by a company called Toei. DiC (and later Cloverway) just dubbed it into English so that it would be more accessible to Americans.

Although I think they HAVE made their own cartoons, but I don't know if they'd be allowed to make their own version of Sailor Moon, with new drawings.

By the way, two of the Picture Diaries have been made into anime episodes. One of them, the vampire one, is a mini-movie that went with the SuperS movie. The one about the evil dentists got turned into a SuperS episode about Palla-Palla making an evil dentist place. There's no anime equivalent of the one about Naruru and Ruruna, though. The dentist one was dubbed into English (by Cloverway, not DiC) but the vampire one does not have any legitimate English translation (or even a legitimate subtitled version).

Actually, the Vampire story was part of the SuperS TV special.

Oops. I knew it was aired (whether on TV or a movie theater) sometime during the SuperS season's airing (or at least had some connection to SuperS).

I always keep forgetting about this...

Wait, isnt it Shokujo and Kengyu? That's what I have in my book :P

*sigh* I wish that DiC coulda kept their contract with Toei and kept chugging along, perhaps even dubbing Stars. :(

Hmmm... I'm getting soem pretty wierd ideas...

Those are two different stories, neither of which has an anime equivalent. Shokujo and Kengyu (if I'm remembering from the manga correctly) are the characters in the story set around Usagi and Chibi-Usa's birthday where they (Shokujo and Kengyu, not the Moon Bunnies) are long-lost lovers who are a part of Japanese mythology. The Naruru and Ruruna story is during the Stars Arc of the manga, and it's about two girls who are Chibi-Usa's friends (and Hotaru makes a lot of sarcastic remarks about them) and they're anime otaku (they're also into brand-name clothes, hence the fact that they're often known as Sailor Gucchi and Sailor Chanel). One of them (Naruru) is Naru's younger sister, apparently.

You remember correctly. :P

As for the other one, sounds cool.
Mebbe I should find this "stars arc" manga. :)

..Uh...

I suppose it's fine where it is. o_O I really don't care that they didn't make it into part of the anime.

I've read the Shokujo and Kengyu story, which was pretty funny.
Chibi-moon: "You're not Sailormoon! Her legs aren't that fat!"
Thats so mean...
That Kengyu guy was kinda creepy though when he was eyeing Chibimoon in the end

Could you tell me some of Hotaru's sarcastic comments? I want to know since its rare for Hotaru to be sarcastic.

Well, I'm not sure if I should've said "sarcastic" but she was acting rather like Yaten. Examples:

Naruru and Ruruna: We are, like, so totally groovy!
Hotaru: No one talks like that anymore. (said with a rather annoyed but "I'm not going to yell" kind of face) and Chibi-Usa looks a little shocked and possibly embarrassed

Naruru and Ruruna are squealing over the Sailor Moon merchandise at the Hammer Price Shop and Hotaru calls them "Otaku" with the same "tone" she did the other insult.

By the way, these were from the MiXX manga, I don't know the Japanese version of the first one.
