Favorite and Least Favorite Season Finales?

Post by Stephen Victor » Sat Nov 01, 2003 9:54 pm

I was just wondering what everyone's favorite and least favorite season finales are. As for me, I've only seen the finales for Classic, R and S and it's been a long time since I've seen the R one, so I really only have opinions on the Classic and S ones. It's hard for me to decide between the Classic and S finales -- both are really cool, beautiful and emotional and I probably love them both equally.

Favorite- R/S R- touching scene, Chibiusa returning to her family... S- Usagi appearing holding Baby Hotaru in her arms... touching...

Least- Stars- Stars is my favorite series, but the complete ending is lame.
-Adam Picard-
Blake? oh, like a coffee break!!
Poet? What is that? Is it tasty? Is it a popular new snack? Usagi, Stars 179

James: For some reason I'm seeing you in a nurse's uniform...
Steve: Thank you Jeff, that will be all. ... He's not here, is he? Oh God I've internalized him...
-Coupling; The Freckle, the Key, and the Couple who weren't

Favorite-Classic.

Least Favorite- Tie between S and SailorStars. S is my favorite season, but I didn't like the anime ending.
I am a loser!

just a warning:
we're not going to put everything in spoilers in this thread, as there may be quite a few.
so if you don't know what happens at the end of every season, and you don't WANT to know..DON'T READ THIS.

Now...I love the finales to Classic, S, and Stars. I can't choose between the three. Classic is so..triumphant, and so tragic..Usagi's emotion is compelling, and it is in S, too. When she screams "CRISIS MAKE-UP" over and over in S, i just shiver and my eyes tear up. And the whole scene with Saturn...And then there's Stars. I love Healed Galaxia...and I love the very ending, when Usagi gives her little speech that she gave at the very beginnign.

My least favorite..? I dunno. I haven't seen the ending to SuperS, and i've only seen the dubbed ending to R.

Joey: The question is, Rachel, does he like you? ''Cuz if he doesn''t, then it''s all just a moo point.
Rachel: Huh...a...moo point?
Joey: Yeah. It''''s like a cow''s opinion. It doesn''t matter....It''s moo.

My least favorite ending is R. The other four endings were each unique. In Classic, Usagi uses the full power of the Ginzuishou for the first time and actually dies in the attempt. She was "transmigrated", but all the events of the series had been totally erased from her mind. The S ending was very unique; it focused more on emotion than on flashy battle sequences. SuperS probably has the strangest ending of all, with Queen Nehelenia not being killed or healed, only shipped off to the moon. The episode was really unique in the fact that it had NOTHING to do with the rest of the series. Nehelenia appears as nothing more than a power-hungry bitch throughout the rest of the series; and the real conclusion involves Usagi and Chibusa falling to Earth, not anything to do with the Dead Moon Circus. And then there's Stars, the one series in which Sailor Moon doesn't kill ANYTHING (Except those little mirror monsters). What a perfect way to end the series, Usagi reaching for somebody's hand. Quite representative of Sailor Moon, right? The real highlight of episode 200 (for me) is Usagi and Mamoru under the moon. Those icky leather-clad Starlights are dead (My theory is that they didn't really turn into shooting stars to go back to their planet. When they turned into those beams, what really happened was they exploded, thus making Sailor Stars as a series justifiable.), and we get to hear Usagi say a line we haven't heard since the first few episodes of the whole saga.

R was just... a big light coming from a crystal killing a big bad guy with another crystal. Oooh, aww, the colors.

Classic- Kickass battle. I love big final battles, and this is no exception. The battle music (in both versions, but especially in the dub) only improves the battle.

R- Almost as good. La Soldier plays during this battle, doesn't it? The English song is good too.

S- This battle would probably be at the top of the list, if we could freaking SEE it. Real mistake to not show it, imo.

SuperS- my least favorite so far (Have yet to see the ending of Stars). I just don't like endings like this...
"Tell my tale to those who ask... tell it truthfully, the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly. The rest... is silence..." last words of Dinobot, "Code of Hero"
"Is that a poisonous elephant in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" ~another forum

Yes..I love when she grabs Galaxia's hand..it's so gorgeous.
LMAO @ R. Yeah, you're right...it's awesome that they turn into their royal forms, but..the battle is blah.
yeah... I wish they showed Saturn and Super Moon killing Pharaoh 90 from the inside.
I'm content with that they gave us. The scene where she appears holding baby Hotaru is just...beautiful. I get shivers everytime. The music mixed with sailor moon's appearance is just breathtaking.

I was happy that they didn't show Saturn killing Pharoah 90. The emotion of Usagi screaming was so powerful. I was crying. It showed how helpless she was, and how sometimes sacrifices must be made. It was so moving!

Anyways, my favorites are definetely Classic, S, and Stars, for the same reason everyone else gave. R kinda bored me. It was just "Ooh! Look! Usagi's gone princess again! And Chibi-Usa too! It just seemed like Classic's ending. And SuperS... I just didn't care for SuperS at all. It was different, but it was just... blah. Plus, all that screaming with the Golden Crystal bugged me! "Just shut up and kill her!" And how the hell did the Amazoness Quartet switch the crystal for a pineapple? It didn't make sense!

*nods* exactly. I cry everytime.

Usagi went Neo Queen Serenity, not princess ^^;

Hmmmmm, I'm not sure. The ending of Classic, starting with the death of the senshi and ending with unleashing the full power of the Ginzuishou is hard to beat. I did enjoy the ending of SuperS because of how different it was, both compared to the other endings and the rest of the SuperS season. The ending of Stars was pretty good and and a good end to the series. I still liked the ending S, but I wish the other senshi would have been more involved and we would have gotten to see more, but it was nice that someone besides Sailor Moon saved the day for one. I'll agree with the consensus that the R ending was pretty unspectatular.

Call me strange... but when I mentioned the Classic ending in that other thread, I was referring not just to the big emotional rollercoaster and the final battle, but also to the very final scene. That final scene is the absolute most perfect conclusion the series could possibly have, IMHO. You know Usagi and Mamoru will eventually get together, but rather than handing it to you on a plate, the series goes right back to the beginning, ready for it all the happen again, but this time with Usagi as a normal girl and Mamoru as a normal guy.

In many ways this is more satisfying than what happened next with their relationship: He didn't remember her for 13 episodes, then when he finally did, they were together for ONE WHOLE EPISODE before he broke up with her again. Eventually he did find out, and they were together for more than two whole seasons, but in that time he sometimes acted as if Usagi was more of an annoyance than anything else. Their relationship seemed more like something that stayed where it was because it was the premise of the series rather than a genuine relationship, which is a shame, since the whole reincarnation idea behind it is very romantic. Then at the beginning of the main Stars arc he died, and wasn't resurrected until right at the end. You're left to assume they live happily ever after, but there's every reason to assume lots more things will go wrong in the near future before they become King and Queen...

Not hard to guess which is my favourite finale, huh? ^^; And R is my least favourite, for the reasons most people have given.

YES!! I completely agree. It's so sweet that you're left to see Usagi as a normal girl again, and that she can pursue the person she loves, but then BOOM...he has all those damn dreams, and what you mentioned above ensues. That's part of why I cannot stand Mamoru's character, becuase like you said, it seems that Usagi is more of an annoyance to him than a sweetheart once we get past R.
It's so lovely when, at the end of Classic, she leans down to kiss Endymion, but she stops, becuase "all of the other senshi didn't get to kiss the ones they loved."

I'll have to settle on Stars as the best ending, since I have yet to see the original ending of Classic(Yes, poor me has only seen the dubbed ending, pooh..) S comes in at second, and well SuperS and R are both tied for me as the worst endings. I can't really decide which one is worse, really. I might like Chibiusa, but the whole of SuperS, was just too much for me. I like how Stars wrapped up, with Usagi giving her little speech and the kiss and the return of the song Moonlight Densetsu as the ending theme. Then it says "It's the end" to let you know it's really over..I like how they didn't show everything that happened in the future, it's fun to just leave it like that, and let others speculate. Must get the Classic boxset..From the sounds of it, though, I just HAVE to see the Classic ending..IMO, Mamoru seems to just be "Usagi's love interest and future husband by destiny" in the anime..I dunno, even though I like the Stars ending, there's just something about Mamoru in it that I don't really like..

I never did quite understand that remark. I mean, only two of the others had potential love interests, and one of them (Urawa) never appeared again...

Well, I think she meant that they never got a chance to really fall in love, period; therefore, they didn't get to kiss the ones they loved.

Rei: Yuichiro
Makoto: Her Sempai or Motoki
Minako: Alan

...at least, that's how I picture it ^^;;

Anyways, for me, Classic is the best, while I don't really have a least favorite. I actually LIKED the R ending, just because the Death Phantom was the only "uber"-villian that I felt was truly bad-ass ^^;; Also, it was sweet how Chibi-Usa and Usagi worked together, then selflessly wished for the other to be ok. I don't have a least favorite...maybe SuperS, since the ending was a little open-ended?

In the manga, S had the best ending, while I disliked Stars, especially after reading what Tiff wrote about it in another thread. Not only were a LOT of people left out of it, but Tiff's explination makes it somewhat of a downer for me :(

Dinozore, you love more than your significant others. I took it to mean that they died without getting to see their families, friends, and love interests one last time. Usagi thought it would be unfair to do it since they didn't.
