Quality of the Sailor Moon Classic DVDs and Bootlegs

Post by Kiko » Fri May 27, 2005 8:04 pm

I've seen a few topics about the Sailor Moon Stars DVD on animecollector.com . Well, they also have a bootleg of Sailor Moon Classic and I was wondering if the quality on that DVD would be better than what we got for our official release, atleast, audio wise?
Has anyone bought the DVD from there and can compare? I'm all for supporting our official release of the DVDs, but if the quality from a bootleg is better than what we got I'd like to save the money I'd spend on a lower quality (but official) release and get the bootleg..

(Erk, sorry, I wasn't sure if this topic was appropriate, but it's been discussed before, and I thought it'd be okay ^^;)

From what I can infer, a good chunck (if not all) of those bootlegs use the offical discs as their source. So I don't believe that they will have better audio or video than the offical versions, only a more approiate disc count for the quality.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but there are so many bootleg companies releasing these and I was wondering what would be different about 'em for buying one over the other..

The above topic mainly talks about the Season 1 collection. A few weeks ago, I bought one on eBay, which I thought was the official ADV box set, but from the sound of things in the topic above, it may be a bootleg. I'm a little upset about it, considering I'd rather have bought the official copy, and thus shown my support for more subbed anime being released in the US. But this version I have was very professionaly done, and the quality is satisfactory. I would't be able to tell it was a bootleg. It may also be an imported set.

go to rightstuf.com for the official release 1st season for $50, it should still be there. That is about what you will pay anyway for bootleg, as you said you are all for supporting the offical release I suggest you go there. The quality is good enough unless you MUST have 5.1 sound and crystal clear picture for SM which does not exist... I think.

Bootleg IS $50, official at rightstuf is about $135. If the quality doesn't vary between them then I don't think I'll lose with the bootleg since there's nothing special on the official versions' DVDs. Honestly, if the set was a little better, without episode errors or horrible audio (though, I know it's not their fault), I'd pay $135 for it, but it's alot of money for something in the condition it's in now. $50-70 is more worth it IMO.

sorry for that, for a while they were $50, I forgot that their stock has gone down and they raised the price a little while ago. In that case animecollector is a good place, I'm going to get stars from there very soon

I see that Amazon has the box sets from individual sellers for as low as ~$34 brand new. That's not bad, and it is the original too. Granted, there's only 1 or 2 that cheap, but it's still an option, if you don't want boots. Personally, I don't care, as long as its mine... *greedy*

Is that a bootleg or something? I might get it if it's cheap and of good quality

Just remembered a great online store for bootleg SM. They have great boxes, great quality and have specials and missing episodes (67!). A must see for anyone interested in bootleg.

obviously, nobody who has posted actually has it and Marionight says the bootleg probably uses the originals so take a chance and find out. They can't be that bad since everyone knows about 'em. Its always a game of chance man!
oh, and about the sailormoonshop.com store. I just read a disclamer on thier site that both disturbed and confused me so fair warning.
